As listed but not quite
Rented this unit because of advertised large backyard with hot tub and washer dryer. Hot tub smelled and hadn't been ran for some time. Asked the host about the washer and dryer, was told "I don't normally let guests use those".
House was clean but about 105 degrees inside. The AC was a small unit on the wall that put out minimal cool air. We had to open the windows wide to let the 90 degree outdoors cool things off. About 10 pm the AC unit made a terrible noise and a goodish amount of frozen bits of water fell onto the floor. I turned it off, it was the only fan/ventilation in the front room/ kitchen/ dining room area. It became very warm very quickly.
In the morning I made coffee, went to get dressed. When I came back there were ants everywhere in the sink and on the counter surrounding the towel I had dried my hands upon. They were coming from under the counter. I went back into the bathroom and found a line of ants coming out from under the tub, headed for the droplets of water on the floor.
I called the owner and told him of the ants, he told me to make sure the doors and windows were closed and to not leave any water or food bits about. He claimed he had had ants once when he lived there. There were no signs of ant traps or spray anywhere. The house was so badly under air-conditioned that leaving doors and windows closed would have rendered it an oven.
The ants, the lack of adequate AC (it was 95 outside) and the smelly hot tub all added up to an unpleasant overnight stay. We had booked for 3 nights but checked out of there to the local chain hotel.
Owner tried to bargain with me, "I know people in the area, I can find you a place to stay", but I was just done. This was my first (and last) experience with VRBO.
