The Isle of Palms, like all barrier islands, has a dynamic beach near the inlet that separates the island from Dewees Island. The ebb and flow of the changing tides, through the inlet, creates and moves sand bars just off shore. These sandbars will channel waves between them, resulting in the massive buildup of sand along portions of the island where other areas may develop temporary erosional hot spots. These hot spots will feature a sand beach throughout the day outside an hour or so before and after high tide. Where a dry sand beach may be limited in these few areas at high tide, walking either direction will lead to an area where the sandbars have created an expansive beach to enjoy at any tide.

Some really good, some really bad

  • 2 of 5

Positives: Nice common area. Well stocked kitchen. Very comfortable LR, Dining Rm and Kitchen. Bedrooms all nice size. Really like the feel of the house and were very comfortable for the most part. Great porch area even though we could not use it much.

Negatives: Front steps are dangerous. Grand Daughter feel on steps because of the slope on the stairs. Once with light ran and once with the ice storm. These need to be fixed. Toilets are all "potty chair" size. Very, very uncomfortable. Whole house is old feeling, needs updates for this price. Drive way is in need of major repair. With 7 people in Van, the car drug bottom over major hump. Washer & Dryer in open under house area. Was cold this week and really not worthy of use. Did try one day and the dryer did not work. Maintenance man came and said no problem. However, when clothes were in it, we could feel the heat and hear the motor trying to turn the chamber, but it did not turn.

Too many things wrong for me to recommend it or return. If things corrected would recommend it.

Perfect layout for a family or families

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a beautiful week at 23 Beachwood West in October and enjoyed this property immensely. It was an excellent fit for our trip as we had two families spending the week together as the layout of this house worked extremely well to give everyone space, enough bathrooms and a great communal area to hang out. The kitchen was far better equipped than I expected for a rental and we found everything we needed plus a lot more--great coffee maker, wine opener, multiple cutting boards, tea pot (I could go on). The walk to the beach was easy and short--perfect when you are traveling with small children. Everyone except the 18 month old was able to walk to the beach without being carried allowing parents to have free arms to carry all the beach supplies. The area under the home is a great storage area for beach items and helped to keep the floors less sandy by keeping beach fun outside. The porch is so relaxing and a great place to enjoy the company of your family. It had a ceiling fan and a huge hammock that we used daily while the littles napped in the bedrooms. Easy for everyone to have a great time without constantly having to be quiet to keep from waking a baby because the way the home is set up. We were very pleased with every aspect of our stay from the initial email through to check out. It was easy and we spent a wonderful week on IOP.

There were three couples who came together for a Citadel reunion. We enjoyed the home but found the photos to be misleading. The floor plan was great but the age of the house presented worn and dirty carpet especially in the hallway. Also had a malfunctioning dishwasher and master toilet. Location was secluded but parking was tight for three cars Still enjoyed our time together as friends.

Good place to stay, clean

  • 4 of 5

Everything was clean, it was very comfortable. The hallway is a little tight but that's minor. The driveway is probably the worst part of the property-there's a huge rut in it and it's a narrow drive, only suitable for 2, max 3 cars. The culdesac is quiet and wild dunes feels super safe!

Classic, casual, and roomy

  • 5 of 5

Great gathering space in this home, room for family meals and well equipped kitchen. Access to a grill as well. Two spacious master bedrooms and 2 additional bedrooms with 2 beds each. Television in each room. DVD player and wi-fi. Good quality bedding and room for personal belongings. Laundry facilities and outdoor showers, and great screened porch with seating. Home is clean and well cared for. Private setting. Easy short beach walk. Beach is broad with a slight incline toward sea that is great for children. Walkable distance to community pool, although hours are more limited than at smaller pools. It was a great spot for our family gathering and rental agency was really on the ball.

Comfortable, Well Equiped and Clean

  • 4 of 5

We were there celebrating my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. My family of 5 shared this home with my sister and her 3 small children. The kitchen breakfast bar was a great addition as was the large screened in porch with the hammock. The 10 minute walk to the beach was easy (across the street was an L sharped gravel path) that led there. There are two outdoor hot/cold showers that would be a plus if there weren't so many mosquitoes. The laundry is outside under the house but it's an air conditioned room so it didn't really bother us. Everything being on one level was a plus since the bedrooms were down a hall away from the living area. We enjoyed our stay!!
