I have been drooling over this stone house for two years - it was love at first sight online and the reality was even better than the pictures! The views are incredible and the house is comfortable and cozy. We had everything we needed and we much appreciated the washing machine. FrĂ©dĂ©rique was lovely and checked in on us every day asking how we were doing and giving us suggestions for things to do in the area. We loved Martine who met us for check-in and helped us with parking. The trek up to the house is quite steep but once we got our luggage up it wasn’t so bad (my husband and I are in our 60’s and 70’s). There is so much to see in the area and we will definitely be back to spend another week in this beautiful place.

Dordogne bliss

We had a fabulous week staying this villa in Beynac. The location was perfect with plenty of restaurants and cafes and things to do within easy walking distance plus many more sights and experiences within a half hour drive. The villa certainly was great. The best feature is the magnificent view from the terrace. We certainly spent time there every morning and evening soaking up the vista. The villa was good for our needs too. It is well equipped and comfortable with everything we needed including a washing machine. The host was a great communicator. Check in worked perfectly and the host gave us some excellent suggestions during our stay. One tip though would be to see if you can drop your suitcases up near the castle and wheel them down rather than having to wheel them uphill to the villa.

Our stay at the stone roof house was a dream from start to finish! We arrived very late (9:30pm!) due to late plane, car rental snafu, and torrential rain. Our hostess Frédérique was in touch with us the whole trip, and Martine the housekeeper met us when we arrived and helped us find the house. We loved being in the heart of the village, yet so private. The house is spacious and comfortable. Our favorite spot was the terrace and garden, with the glorious view of the Dordogne river and the valley.Frédérique was in touch with us nearly every day, with assistance and suggestions, so thoughtful and appreciated. Communication throughout our stay was easy and responsive. The lovely Martine helped us with our heavy bags on the steep cobbled streets, and dropped in several times, once bringing flowers! Her cheerful energy and helpfulness contributed so much to our stay. We hope to return one day!

Mystical & magical - perfect base of operations for experiencing the Dordogne

Celebrating our moms 75th birthday with a trip to the Dordogne, we stayed at the Stone Roofed House for a week in May 2018. Frederique could not have been more responsive and accommodating, and the House was perfect for my mom, sister and me. Visiting Beynac is like stepping back in time, and it’s a quick drive to Sarlat and many other wonderful places to explore. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!!

Beauty in Beynac

We loved spending a week at this lovely historic home in this beautiful storybook village. It was a treat to see the breathtaking view at different times of day and to see the balloons flying by. The climb is quite steep, as has been said, but charming nonetheless. The house was lovely, comfortable, and well appointed. We enjoyed cooking in the modern kitchen and were able to do laundry. The housekeeper, Martine, who checked us in was incredibly helpful and very friendly. We would love to return to this home again and recommend it without hesitation.

Fantastique!

Staying at La Maison de Pierre en Beynac is like stepping into a fairytale. The home is beautifully located, beautifully decorated, and Beynac is charming. The view of the Dordogne River from the garden terrace makes a vacation here even more alluring. Comments from other guests sum up our impressions as well, but since we cannot stop talking about our fabulous stay here, we just had to write to confirm what a truly amazing vacation home this is. If you are planning a trip to the Dordogne and want a memorable vacation, do not hesitate to reserve La Maison de Pierre.

The Stone House exceeded our expectations.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our relaxing sunny mornings having pastries in the garden overlooking Beynac, the Dordogne river and Castlenaud are cherished memories. Our days were filled with the fascinating history of the region and its accompanying sites along with delicious food and wine. The house met all our expectations though you will need to keep the dehumidifier on and be prepared for a short uphill walk. The girls meeting us upon a very late arrival were gracious and helpful. We would definitely recommend a stay.

Beautiful house in Beynac

This is a beautiful house ,having been recently renovated.to a high standard. It is fully equipped and we wanted for nothing. The house is located on the winding road up to the castle, hence the fabulous views . Each morning as we sat on our terrace Hot air ballons could be seen over the Dordogne, it really is a stunning peaceful location. The owners were there to greet us on arrival and offer advice and assistance , we were made to feel very welcome. Beynac itself is beautiful and the perfectly placed for exploring the surrounding area. There are restaurants locally with views over the river, reasonably priced and catering for all tastes. Thoughly recommened.....

Wonderful stay in a magical place

We were so fortunate to stay in this charming cottage. Beynac is a storybook village that takes you back in time. Everyone should put this place on their travel bucket list. The cottage was lovely place to experience this most beautiful part of the world, with stunning views, spacious rooms and cozy decor. The owner and manager are attentive to your needs before and during your stay. Prospective guests should be aware that the cottage sits on a very steep hill and may not be suitable for some folks in terms of accessibility. Also, the manger is kind and helpful but does not speak English. The cottage is on the path to Beynac castle which is an awesome sight. It is also an easy drive to other towns and sights. We absolutely loved our stay and it made Christmas even more special.

Heaven on earth!

Our stay was absolutely perfect. The house is stunning - the pictures do not do it justice. Martine, the property manager, was an absolute delight and was so helpful during our stay, including bringing us fresh crepes one day! A lovely bottle of wine greeted us upon arrival as well. The view cannot be described - I took so many pictures of the view of Beynac. And you can see Castelnaud from the kitchen window - it's like living in a dream. The house was beautifully decorated and the kitchen had everything you'd need. There is a little market in town and a larger supermarket in St. Cyprien. We hiked every day and were just overwhelmed by the beauty of the Dordogne region. My husband and I absolutely loved our time here and hope to return soon.

Fantastic view of Dordogne

Really a wonderful, nicely kept and beautifully restored stone house (with stone roof) but even more special is the patio and garden overlooking the Dordogne River and the town of Beynac. In close proximity to Sarlat and many other attractions, boat tours and canoe rental stations, plus the fabulous Beynac castle up the hill from the house. Yes, in order to drive up to the house you need a small car, which we didn't have, but we (including one of us who was 86 years old) walked up the steep cobbled street several times each day, got our cardio exercise that way, and thus could justify more cheese, bread and croissants (the baker down below is excellent, and so is the Petite Tonnelle Restaurant). In September the sun sets over the river, making the day's end a magical time with a sound track of birds and the chruch bells up above ringing the hour and half hour until 10 p.m. A very special place.

Idyllic and Breathtaking

We’re a retired couple who spent two weeks here in mid-Spring this year after a one week stay in the house about seven or eight years ago. The garden, with both morning and afternoon sun, is a delightful place from which to chill and watch the village, the Dordogne, and occasional balloon drifting by overhead. Communication with Frederique is easy and timely, especially through WhatsApp. Frederique’s local manager, Martine, is extremely helpful and no more than 5 minutes away (although non-French speaking visitors would benefit from a good translating app). Another suggestion would be to bring a pair of shoes with good traction if the path up to the house is wet from rain. We would look forward to returning in a couple of years.

Everything we imagined it would be

We had a marvelous time at this property, with our two 10-month-old babies. The home is so very comfortable, and it was easy to fall in love with the village and larger surroundings of the Dordogne. Despite the fact that many of the small villages have closed for the season, the Autumn colors are beautiful and the place is so serene. This is definitely a little jewel, and tye lovely property manager who greeted us upon our arrival made us feel completely at home. We look forward to returning again to experience Beynac in Spring. P.S. For anyone who is a foodie, we'd recommend the Saturday market at Sarlat. We found wonderful regional specialties, sold directly by the farmers, bakers, butchers, etc. (Walnut cake, fois gras, cheese, sausages, wild mushrooms, vegetables, jams, honey, etc.)

A magical and relaxing stay

We spent four wonderful weeks in the Stoneroofed House; it was everything we expected and more... The view is as breathtaking as everyone has said and the house is a charming mix of authenticity, modern features and equipment - exactly as described and pictured - and very comfortable. Although we appreciated the parking space and garden, we too opted to park down in the village after a couple of forays up the narrow and steep path in our Peugeot 208 - the walk up the hill several times a day was good for improving our fitness. We enjoy shopping for local produce and cooking at home (Sarlat was our favourite market) and we used the barbecue, oven and induction cook top numerous times. Beynac is a beautiful village and a great base for exploring the region. The locals were warm and welcoming and quickly came to recognise us in the local cafes and around the village. Frédérique was in touch several times during our stay and marvellous Martine ensured we had everything we needed and was an absolute delight - and patient with my French! We felt incredibly privileged and fortunate to be 'chez nous' at the Stoneroofed House for four weeks and I happily recommend it. Our time in the house and at Beynac holds a special place in our many memories of France.

Absolutely Enchanting!

We are completely enamored with this idyllic house in the charming town of Beynac! Be warned that staying here may tempt you to move! This is the perfect place to stay for those who love history and nature and we found it the ideal location for our explorations of the Dordogne. It was spacious and comfortable for our family of five, including our three teen and adult children. It would also be a very romantic retreat for a couple. I recommend scheduling your trip to include plenty of time at the house itself, it is a delight! The entire region is replete with fascinating things to explore and we really enjoyed coming back to the house after our adventures with Paleolithic cave art, medieval castles and towns, and kayaking. We spent most evenings on the deck and in the yard, eating and enjoying the local wines while appreciating the beautiful, peaceful, and intriguing view. Frederique was a delight to work with in the months that preceded our trip and both Martine and her daughter were very kind and helpful during our stay. Martine keeps the house spotless and she was full of helpful advice. The information about the steepness of the walk to and from the house is all true. We were glad to be traveling light with our backpacks and not large suitcases. If you have mobility issues it would be a challenge to stay here, but for everyone else, it adds to the charm. There aren't many groceries in town, so I recommend bringing your coffee, breakfast, etc. with you or planning to walk down to the patisserie in the morning. The house is well designed and tastefully decorated. The living space on the main floor is inviting and leads out to the deck and large yard. The upstairs had ample room for three beds. Unfortunately, we were there during a heat wave and we were unable to keep this room cool. Below the main living area are the master bedroom (that could be straight out of a storybook), the bathroom, the toilet in a separate wc, and the laundry. We are already dreaming of going back! Thank you Frederique and Martine for an unforgettable experience!

A perfect vacation spot in Beynac

We just returned home from our stay at the Stoneroofed house in Beynac and we miss it already. In the week that we stayed in this magical place we enjoyed starting our day by opening our windows to the cool air and hiking down to Les Delices de la Vallee for morning pastries. The croissants, plain and chocolate filled; the pain au raisin; the pistachio/chocolate-filled and almond-filled pastries; the eclairs and bread - all were wonderful. (We justified eating all of these, as well as our tasting of area glaces and gelato, by all of our hiking up and down the small stone paths, climbing stairs in villages and chateaux, and daily walking to explore the many sites of the area.) My camera is filled with wonderful sunrises and sunsets, including morning mist in the valleys and hot air balloons rising over the chateaux at dawn and dusk. We canoed the Dordogne one morning, starting our trip at 0930, which meant we almost had the river to ourselves and it was before the heat of the day. We would definitely do that again. We enjoyed touring Chateau Beynac very much - the amazing construction of the chateau and the views of the valley were well worth the climb. Chateau de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle was also enjoyable, with an interesting display of weaponry of the time. We explored many villages in the area and attended several markets. I think our favorite villages explored were Beynac, La Roque-Gageac and Domme. We also enjoyed the market in Cenac-et-Saint Julien and made an impromptu picnic from some of our purchases there. Our early September weather was perfect. The path up to the Stoneroofed house is steep, as several reviews have mentioned, but definitely worth the climb. The home is comfortable and we appreciated the updated kitchen and bath. The patio and garden areas were the perfect site for picnics, evening glasses of wine, or just gazing at the amazing view. We had the opportunity to meet Frederique, daughter Kim, and Pascal one evening and count our time getting to know them as one of the highlights of our visit. Martine, who met and checked on us regularly, is a delight and was always helpful with whatever was needed. Our most memorable evening meals were at La Petite Tonnelle and La Terrasse des Chateaux in Beynac, and La Traverse "Chez Les Filles" in Cenac-et-Saint Julien. We also had a good pizza at Chez Tom while visiting La Roque-Gageac, and caught a live music performance (Blues) at Le Bo Bar in Beynac. We hope to return someday!

Voici pourquoi l’hĂŽte a choisi cet hĂ©bergement
