About the property

Townhome, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Max. 4 Guests)

Las Arcadas Condominiums is an oasis in Antigua - not in the thick of things, but close enough to walk to numerous restaurants, shops, crafts markets, grocery stores, Parque Central (Central Park), El Mercado (the market) and much more. Our neighbors include Guatemalans, visitors from around the globe, and ex-pats working on various projects and charities. Agua Volcano makes an awe-inspiring backdrop to this oasis.

Our Casita Rosita is an end unit, far from the noise of the street, and just steps away from the inviting swimming pools, large yard with flowering shrubs and mature fruit trees. It is situated so it gets lots of morning sunlight to take away the evening chill, but in the warm afternoons it is shaded. All of the windows have screens - not standard equipment in Guatemala.

We have pressurized water - an important amenity in Antigua, and uncommon most places - and potable water is provided. After a day of shopping, sightseeing, hiking and otherwise enjoying this beautiful and fascinating town, you'll be glad to return to our quiet, casual and comfortable casita.

The neighborhood is gated and there is a friendly guard on duty around-the-clock who can also help with things like hailing a tuk-tuk (a motor-scooter taxi) or setting up tables and chairs if you'd like to entertain poolside. Housekeeping can be arranged for you and the price is very reasonable.

Transportation from the airport is easily arranged (as well as other tours) and you will have an English speaking contact.

In addition to standard equipment such as a coffee maker and toaster, the condo is equipped with a blow dryer, iron, umbrella - all the things you need to make your stay comfortable.

Nuestra casa es su casa. Our house is your house. We love it and think you will, too.

About Robin Freeman

Guatemala and its people won our hearts as we traveled around the country and later as we fostered our daughter in Antigua during the process of adoption. A year or so after returning home with our daughter, we set up a non-profit selling goods made in Guatemala with proceeds benefiting Guatemalan charities, giving us another good reason to return to Guatemala often.

Robin Freeman purchased this townhome in 2006

Why Robin Freeman chose Antigua Guatemala

We love the beauty, vibrancy and cosmopolitan feel of Antigua and dreamed of having a home there but didn't connect with the places we saw with a real estate agent. Then, on a buying trip for the non-profit, an acquaintance from the US called out my name as I walked through Parque Central and invited me to her home at Las Arcadas. She had lived in Antigua two years but was moving and her townhouse was for sale. Her place and the neighborhood had such a comfortable feel, we knew we were 'home.' Two days later we met the former owner over coffee at Cafe Condessa, struck a deal and sealed it with a handshake.

What makes this townhome unique

We like to start off our mornings sipping coffee and tea on our deck, listening to the birds . . . but town beckons. We're always enthused to set off down the street to shop, meet up with old friends and new acquaintances, get a massage or just pass a little time in the park; but coming home to Casita Rosita is like a retreat from Antigua -- quiet and serene. Invariably we are reinvigorated to venture back out in the evening for dinner at one of the many superb restaurants, take in a lecture, movie or music, and to stroll the streets.

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay while visiting Antigua! I have stayed here three times and can recommend it highly. It is very well managed with a local contact who is highly available. It is half a mile from the central park in a very safe gated area. The views are amazing and there are several restaurants nearby. It has come to feel like home to my husband and me.

Good place

  • 5 of 5

We liked staying here. The condo is just about exactly as the photos show. It's in a nicely maintained and friendly residential community. I loved the upstairs terrace that overlooks the pools and has a majestic view of Volcan Agua. The playful voices of children starts pretty early at the pools. I found it heartwarming to hear their play and chatter much of the day, and even though I'm a person who is quite noise sensitive, it didn't bother me. There is virtually no street noise. I also liked swimming laps early in the morning before the kids came. The distance from the condo to parque central, the market, the grocery was a reasonable walk for me and my daughter. The gate guards are friendly and helpful. The dryer was broken when we arrived but the rental office got right on it and it was fixed the day after I called. This was quick since the repairman rebuilt the motor!

Awesome oasis

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed here for 8 nights. It was a great location to get away from the hustle of Antigua yet close enough to get to all the attractions and great restaurants the town has to offer. It is secure and the pool was a great respite after a day of exploring. The unit offers everything you could need and want!

Great property and great location. It looked nice online but even better in person.

We really enjoyed staying at Las Arcadas. The home had great character and was well suited to our needs. The home was also located near the central area of Antigua yet distant enough for a relaxing and quiet stay. The outdoor garden space beside the unit was also a plus. We'd be glad to return here in the future. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home.
