Lake Michigan beaches are praised for their, 'variety of beaches with fine to grainy sand and clean clear water' according to Dr. Beach, Stephen Leatherman, who judges and rates beaches all over the U.S, the 7-1-11 of the Detroit Free Press. Enjoy these beaches and more at our Driftwood cottage on Lake Michigan.
Enjoy beautiful sunsets, cookouts and long quiet walks on pure white sand from this Lake Michigan Beach Front Cottage. A repeat, renter said it reminded her of growing up on ‘old’ Cape Cod, private, quite and beautiful. No steps to the beach, only a gently sloping sand dune to run down. There is a fire pit and beach chairs on the beach for marshmallow and hot dog roasts, while you watch the beautiful sunsets, or watch the beautiful changing sunsets while having dinner on the deck. or the sunrise while you have your morning coffee.
It is 7 miles south of Little Pointe Sable and the Silver Lake sand dunes. This area has many family actives: dune buggy rides, which are both fun and educational, miniature golf, go-carts, horse back riding, etc. It is just a 15 minute drive to Pentwater with many delightful art galleries, a large antique store, and many other unique shops. There are golf courses, for the beginner or the expert, only minutes away. 30 miles of rails to trails for biking. You can also tour a working farm with the family, and then visit their old fashion soda fountain. They also have wonderfully fresh dairy and beef products for you to purchase. Or just relax..
The first floor is open so you have a view of Lake Michigan, south, west and north and a view of the dunes and woods east.. There are 3 bedrooms on the second floor and a bath and half. Two bedrooms have double beds, the third bedroom is a bunk room, with 3 single beds and one double, with a view of the lake. We built this cottage in 1970 and our family, 3 sons and their families, 8 grandchildren, have loved and enjoyed it for many summers. My husband and I were both educators, and because of our professions, we were able to spend our entire summers there. I have gotten older and my family is scattered so I am now renting our beach house, that we have enjoyed and loved all these years. We still go but not for the entire summer
Because the area is so beautiful!! This summer, 2016 , has just been sparkling every day I have been here.
Peace and quiet; beautiful sunsets, beach walks, along a nearly private beach, dark nights with beautiful bright stars; swimming, golf 5 minutes away, tubing in the Stony river down to Lake Michigan.
Thank you for your comments about how beautiful it is during the fall. A bit of private heaven at that time of the year.
I stayed here for 4 days in the fall and it was absolutely perfect. Such a clean, cozy cottage with an AMAZING view of the lake. Great layout of the interior - the kitchen is open and the kitchen/living room is a wonderful place for families/friends to hang out and enjoy the view. The upstairs is perfect for families/friends with enough space and beds for everyone to be comfortable! I had the most relaxing time here and can't wait to come back!
I've been coming to this beautiful house on the lake for a long time, but had never been there later than August until this past Fall. It's such an amazing place to be in the heat of the Summer with the lake and beach literal feet away, but going in September (Felt more like late October, very chilly) was just as magical. With temperatures only getting up to the high 50's most beach activities were pretty much out of the question, however I still went for a very nice long walk along the beach, enjoyed the best sunsets I've ever seen and basked in the sun on the porch while we played cards. At night it got down to the 30s, but it was really nice cozying up in front of the fire with a book and listening to music.
Honestly if you're looking for a great getaway where you are able to truly unwind, whether it be Fall or Summer, this is the spot for you. There's a small TV and internet, however those are new additions and I love the fact that besides the natural beauty, you can totally unplug if you want and just focus on relaxing. I might be a bit biased since I've been coming here for so long (I just discovered this review site because I was day dreaming about Lake Michigan and started to google it!) but it's honestly one of my favorite places on earth to go!!!!!!
What a place! So peaceful! We loved every minute of our stay! What we loved the best was no neighbors! Felt like you were the only one there!
Each year for the past 10 years we have spent a week on Lake Michigan, and for the last 2 years, we have rented this great cottage, and it has been our favorite place by far. It is perfectly located on the beach, with an awesome unobstructed view of the lake day and night from the deck that spills over into the dunes. The beach is never crowded, and the location is perfect and safe. We love the spacious kitchen for cooking gourmet meals, and the outdoor shower after a long day on the beach. Thanks for sharing your wonderful house with us!
Our family had the most wonderful time at this charming beachfront getaway. The view of Lake Michigan was perfect, as evident from the listing photos. The cottage was very clean, up to date, well-supplied and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed bbq picnics on the deck, long walks along the beach in search of the perfect piece of driftwood, and beautiful sunset evenings. Lots of activities nearby, but our main goal was for spending quality time together and pure relaxation - we certainly found that here! I highly recommend this property - you won't be disappointed!
This was the perfect rental cottage for what was possibly our last vacation alone with just my four children, ages 16-23. The cottage is clean and well furnished, providing everything needed for use as a base, or just to hang out for a full week. The living room and bedrooms are adorned with family pictures and other homey touches which quickly make you feel relaxed and at home.
The location is simply stunning. The back deck provides a 180 degree view of the Lake Michigan shoreline. Due to its position closer to the beach than other houses to the north, the cottage offers is a sense of isolation not found in most homes along that stretch of Lake Michigan. A gently sloping sand path leads a usually empty beach with excellent sand and swimming.
Free internet and phone service allowed those (teenagers) who must stay in contact with the outside world to do so. Others of us enjoyed the serenity of silence broken only by gentle waves of Lake Michigan and the occasional Mourning Doves.
In between swimming, sand castles, board games, beach fires with s'mores and lots of relaxing, we enjoyed the dune buggy rides at Silver Lake, Little Sable Lighthouse, antique shops, wineries and Clayborn pottery.
This cottage is perfect for families or couples looking for a relaxing, scenic setting.
