About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft + Office, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Enjoy this 2600 square foot custom-finished log home (non-smoking) in the San Juan Mountains in beautiful Lake City Colorado. Rock the afternoon away on the covered front porch or enjoy the sunny 440 sq. foot deck overlooking the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River with patio table and umbrella, gas grill and beautiful views of Round Mountain and Red Mountain. Relax to the sound of the river flowing by the rustic gazebo. This home was completed in 2007 with granite countertops, stained glass accents, hardwood floors, 22 foot vaulted aspen ceilings and is situated on seven town lots. Lake City is truly a mountain paradise!

The kitchen is fully equipped including cookware, mixer, dishes, crockpot, pancake griddle, dishwasher, trash compater, and a warming drawer. The new gas grill is just outside the double glass doors leading from the kitchen to the deck. The intimate dining room will seat 6 - 8 people with additional seating for two at the granite-topped island.

The master suite has double glass doors leading to a deck overlooking the river and a lovely new king-sized mattress (January 2014). The private bath has double sinks with a tub/shower with a glass door. The art glass window provides a wonderful mountain breeze.

The upstairs bedroom with queen bed and private balcony affords magnificent views of the river and canyon. The second upstairs bedroom has a queen bed with views of the town. Between the two bedrooms is a spacious, shared bath with doors from each bedroom. Each bedroom has a huge walk-in closet as well. This larged, shared bath has double pedestal sinks separated by a granite top vanity. The tub/shower combination with glass doors and toilet are in a separate room. These two upstairs bedrooms lead into the large loft furnished with a rustic-but-new pool table with a catwalk leading to an electronic Yamaha keyboard. All beds have heated mattress pads, and there is central heat for your comfort as well.

The upstairs bedrooms were designed to have naturally circulating air. What this means is that each of the two upstairs bedrooms have 20 foot vaulted ceilings, and the air from the two rooms escapes upward. And the center wall of each of the rooms is 9 feet tall. However, part of the ceiling of each of the two rooms is open so that air escapes and naturally circulates with all of the air in the home. This creates a natural, circulating air system that keeps the temperatures extremely comfortable. Although these two rooms are side-by-side, there are two closets and a bathroom separating them. Because of the design (and ceiling fans in both upstairs rooms and two over the loft), even snoring & conversation can generally not even be detected outside of your bedroom.

There is ample parking for multiple vehicles including an RV area with both 30 and 50 amp service and a carport. A lockable 180 sq foot storage room off the carport gives you ample space to safely store bicycles, coolers, and sporting gear out of the weather. There are 5 bicyles (including a child's bike) and an air pump for your enjoyment.

The upstairs loft with skylights and mountain-view windows is stocked with Monopoly, puzzles, cards, UNO, Phase 10, Skipbo, and a collection of various novels. This is a great getaway area to spend undisturbed time on a puzzle or enjoy a book in the comfortable chair with your feet up on the ottoman. The new 46' Sony Bravia LCD television in the great room has a PlayStation 3 with 2 controllers that plays both traditional CD and Blue Ray discs (bring your own games or extra controllers for hours of fun!).

The laundry room is equipped with washer, dryer, ironing board, iron and clothes rack. Laundry detergent is also supplied.

With the cabin situated in the old historic district, you are within a few blocks of the downtown area, post office, multiple eating establishments, churches, town parks, coffee shops, post office, fly fishing shop, quaint shops, visitors' center, movie theater, and new state-of-the-art medical center. So relaxing to just to keep your car parked and watch the fawns frolic through town!

The town of Creede (outstanding theater in the summer, restaurants, shopping art galleries, excellent fly fishing & guides) is about an hour to the south, and the larger ski-towns of Gunnison (50 miles to the north) and Crested Butte (1 1/2 hours north) are fun day trips with river rafting (check out Taylor River in Gunnison), restaurants (Garlic Mike's in Gunnison), and many speciality shops. The coffee bistro and Colorado-style Mexican food at Donita's in Crested Butte are family favorites. All three of these small towns--Gunnsion, Creede, and Crested Butte are easy day trips from Lake City. For those wanting a national park experience, a day hike through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is guaranteed not to disappoint.

You'll be sure to thoroughly enjoy your stay in this picturesque mountain town which is truly a step back in time.

About Joslyn

Come and experience Colorado's best kept secret!

Joslyn purchased this cabin in 2010

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy fly fishing along the riverfront or taking a 5-minute walk to one of the local coffee shops for an afternoon mocha. And the old fashioned ice cream parlor has the best ice cream, milk shakes, and banana splits in Colorado. An early morning hike to the base of Uncompahgre Peak (fourteener), fly fishing lessons, and hikes to the waterfalls of Cataract Gulch (past Lake San Cristobal) are our favorite memories.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came to Lake City for our grandson's wedding and had the rehearsal dinner under a tent in the backyard. It was awesome! The house allowed us visits from the bride's parents and amazingly also had an RV hook-up. The supplies were more than accommodating. Most homes are not this well-supplied. We will be coming back.

Absolute paradise!!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this fabulous home so very much! The attention to detail in decorating, cleanliness, atmosphere, everything you could possibly need in a kitchen, the list goes on & on. If we needed something, it was there. It was truly like being in your own home. The bedding was super comfortable. The location is perfect & relaxing. We had deer walk right outside the window while drinking coffee. We walked & biked everywhere in Lake City. The aspens were splendid with color. We will, without a doubt, be back & I hope it is very soon. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home. It was a perfect vacation.

Beautiful Cabin lived up to expectations

  • 5 of 5

Six adults thoroughly enjoyed beautiful Riverfront Log Cabin in Lake City Colorado last week (09/11/16 to 09/16/16)! Leaves were changing color and we even got into some snow! Sometimes places don't quite live up to description/expectations but Riverfront Cabin did except river pictures were taken when no leaves were on the trees; minor point, I could still see it from the deck. Deer came into back yard, totally unafraid; my daughter almost touched one before it turned around and walked away but then it laid down not far from her! Only glitches: Couldn't find office where we were told to pick up keys, finally found it, then told cabin was unlocked (slightly irritating after a long day of driving but nothing insurmountable). And we couldn't get heater to work most of the time; being thin-blooded flat landers, we about froze a couple times LOL! Cabin is very clean and well maintained. The beautiful kitchen is well stocked with everything you can imagine for cooking, even vanilla which was a good thing since I forgot that for homemade ice cream! I thought a K-cup coffee maker was supplied but we never found it; we had regular coffee so no problem. Food is rather expensive in Lake City, $4 for lettuce! If you plan to cook, buy supplies along the way. Plenty of towels and bathroom supplies but take extra biodegradable toilet paper just in case you run out of that essential. Comfortable beds and 2.5 baths worked out perfect; plenty of hot water! My sister-in-law slept on a sleeper sofa in the office but we never found any extra sheets (unless bed was already made): she removed some cushions and slept on it like a twin bed. Laundry room came in very handy; stocked with plenty of detergent AND fabric softener! Master bedroom had a well stocked 1st aid cabinet with essentials that might get forgotten. Cabin is in very quiet neighborhood and we never worried about things on several day trips away. There are a lot of caliche/dirt roads in Lake City so don't expect your vehicle to stay clean. Cabin landscaping was very nice, even potted flowers/plants. There was a nice deck and cute front porch, a storage shed for trash and a one-car carport. The two men in our party took advantage of the loft pool table (there's even a piano and lots of books) but I think the big screen TV was turned on once; too busy with other things to watch TV. Reliable WiFi, little slow sometimes. Would totally recommend this beautiful relaxing place to anyone! GO! QUICK!

"Magaziny" Perfect.

  • 5 of 5

When we stepped through the door, all that was missing was the smell of fresh baked cookies. Even though it was our first visit everyone immediately felt at home. Every inch of the home and river front was perfect for relaxing. All our cares and worries floated down river.

Vacation Dream

  • 5 of 5

This is such a beautiful and well kept home on the river. Its excellently furnished with up to date conveniences. The perfect home base in between your excursions in the mountains. Or the perfect place to just rest outside on the spacious deck or gazebo with the peaceful sounds of the flowing river. Its location is ideal as you can easily walk (or bike--can you believe those are included?) everywhere in town. If the location and actual home are not enough, this place has a deluxe pool table with an included ping pong table top! If you are wanting the ideal place for your family to rest, play, and grow closer than look no further--you have found it!
