Why The Owner chose Portland

We own two homes in this area, so this is our 'extra house'. This is one of the original upscale neighborhoods in Portland established in the 1870's, always in high demand due its unique character and closeness to downtown.

What makes this house unique

Very close to all the action, music, theaters and restaurants in downtown Portland. Great walk to Council Crest Park with 360 degree view from the hilltop, lots of bike friendly paths. Near a great neighborhood market with Gourmet food, Wine (liquor) and deli.

Delightful Historic Home in Portland

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a New Years weekend getaway with our two teenage daughters. The furnishings were museum quality and interesting to explore along with a variety of books to read. Bonus to have separate bedrooms, a modern kitchen, and a cozy fire to enjoy.

Very nice house.

  • 4 of 5

The very best funished kitchen we have had in years of renting houses for the holidays. Many awesone antiques and accessories. A bit of a challlenge getting access down the stairs for our older group. Really needs lighting at the street and down the stairs. The house was very clean and beds good. Would be a great location for summer visitors to Portland.

A Wonderful Vacation Home!

  • 5 of 5

This home was BEAUTIFUL! Nestled in a gorgeous neighborhood surrounded by trees, awash with personality! My family all enjoyed our vacation in this house. The host was accomodating; the house offered every thing that a family would need for a week's stay.

Older home with some quirks.

  • 2 of 5

We did have a wonderful time in Portland, the home itself is unique. It is not an ideal home for smaller children. Walking to shopping and restaurants was impractical for us. The neighborhood was nice and quiet.

Beautiful area, furnishings

  • 4 of 5

The property was in a great location, beautiful antiques in the home. Roads are difficult to navigate without a GPS for guidance. One bedroom on the main floor, two bedrooms upstairs. Stairs are a little steep and high, would be difficult for elderly or leg problems. Shower upstairs not comfortable because its surrounded by curtain that if not careful water could escape, nothing to hold shower products other then medal shelf that doesnt fit on tub and falls alot. Tub is higher then normal so not easy to get in / out of.

Overall I would go back. Cant beat the price. A little maintenance, a few kitchen upgrades (ie: coffee pot, pans) would be great. Better cleaning service. It was definetely cleaner when we left then when we got there.

Quirky and Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! The women in our family, from teenagers to great-grandma, come to Portland for an annual get-together weekend, and this year we chose to rent this house for our trip. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably, as well as adequate comfy space for hanging out. We really love the historical aspect of the house, with its squeaky floors and unique antique furniture and decor. Items inside the house seem like they "belong", as if they were specifically curated to be there. It's like getting to spend the night inside a museum or an antiques store...truly one-of-a-kind and much more interesting and special than a cookie-cutter hotel room! The view from the large back window and balcony is breathtaking and serene, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evenings by the fireplace watching the sunset. Very quiet area, the house itself has a peaceful and happy feel to it, and we would love to know more of the history of the house. It would be a great treat for the owners to have a scrapbook of the home's history for guests to enjoy...just our suggestion since we were so intrigued with the property.

Bathrooms included plenty of towels for everyone, beds were decent, great-gramma said she slept "quite well" in the downstairs bedroom. Kitchen is modernized and stocked with plenty of dishes and equipment, although we ate out for our entire stay and only used the toaster oven for leftovers and the coffee maker in the mornings. The house is located close enough to downtown for relatively quick access to restaurants and shopping, but up the hill enough to feel like we were in a hideaway in the misty forests.

Hosts gave great pre-arrival instructions that made checking in a breeze. Wi-fi worked fine, and we had no need to adjust the thermostat at all during our stay as the pre-set program was perfect. Hosts provided one log of firewood for each night of our stay; we recommend also providing newspaper or other items as firestarters. We used paper shopping bags in a pinch. Fireplace did have a large accumulation of ash from previous use, we recommend more frequent cleaning of such as well as a thorough dusting of all the nooks & crannies in the living area.
