Peaceful idyll in an artists' cottage

  • 5 of 5

These owners are masterful artists/craftspeople (masonry, glassblowing, and more) and their home is a beautiful showcase for their talent. It has been lovingly restored by them and is tastefully decorated. Super clean.

Perfect for a couple looking for a getaway to relax, recharge, or even just work in a calming environment. Near the end of a (non-thru) street on the Housatonic, it is quiet, quiet, quiet. Lovely hiking in the near vicinity, and kayak outfitters not far.

For those who love chamber music, the acclaimed Music Mountain is a mere 10 mins down the road--and its hall has a glorious acoustic. For those who enjoy cooking, a perfectly outfitted kitchen (lacking for nothing you could imagine wanting) and a terrific large outdoor gas grill, which called our names to grill delicious grass-fed beef and fresh sausages from the nearby Whippoorwill Farms. Yum!

Comfortable beds, linens, and fantastic all-marble bath w fine marble masonry in the shower and floor; large jacuzzi.

Owners were most accommodating of our check-in/out timing request and provided terrific pdfs of all the walks, restaurants, and doings in the nearby area. It is a long drive to some of the area performing arts attractions (Jacobs Pillow is an hour). But the drive was well worth it.

It is cozy, not really a place for small children. Exceeds the photos (which are also nice!) And I expect it would be charming in winter, as well! We'll be back for sure...

Outstanding! Best cozy winter getaway in CT!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this rental is outstanding (location, décor, setting, communication with owner). From the pictures on the web side we thought this place would be nice ....we were "blown away" with how much we loved it from the moment we walked in. Would highly recommend for get away (for 1, two or 4 adults). Every room a work of art. The beauty inside was matched with the surrounding areas. We enjoyed the winter hikes and coming back to the cozy surroundings. The dinner recommendations provided were spot on (Falls Village Inn and White Hart - we enjoyed them both). Would suggest bringing a few morning breakfast provisions with you (e.g. coffee). We can't wait to go back.

One of the best weekends away... ever

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the most relaxing weekends my wife and I have had. The location of the cottage makes for easy accesss to fall colors and sights. Yes, the train came by close to midnight, but it was just a rumble. The glass art in the cottage is exquisite. The owner made the effort to turn on the lights as we would be arriving after dark. This care means a lot to someone coming to this area for the first time. If you arrive late, be sure to stop for groceries on the way. The sound of silence could be you are out of cell coverage! A welcome respite. If you use gps on your mobile, be sure you have it downloaded before you get near as you may lose coverage. Upstairs loft was cool. Music and videos for your pleasure.
