Awesome Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 enjoyed the cabin for 5 nights. It was an amazing vacation. The cabin was absolutely perfect. When we opened the door everyone oohed and aawed! It was better than the photos advertised. We saw deer every night and morning, and turkeys also. The cabin was extremely clean and stocked with everything we needed. The owners and cleaning lady were very pleasant and great to deal with. This cabin is secluded but close to Custer. It was so nice to step out of the cabin and hike and climb rocks. This cabin is just perfect. On our next vacation to the Black Hills we will check availability for this cabin first!

Family group over the 4th of July

  • 5 of 5

We are always interested in the reviews before we rent, so we hope this helps someone. We were a group of 4 adults (2 couples) over the 4th of July. The cabin was perfect! It is a log cabin and set in a rather secluded area. Close enough to Custer to go out to eat or to grab groceries and fix a meal at home (grill worked great). The view off the front porch is amazing. There are 3 levels of bedrooms, so everyone can spread out and 2 1/2 bathrooms make it pretty easy. The convenience of the location was perfect for us-- pretty close to Custer State Park for some pretty fun hiking and fishing. The cabin was clean and well maintained. We liked both the place and the location.

Great Hideaway in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for making available this wonderful Cabin in the Black Hills of SD. The Cabin was just as described and the location was great. We were able to see all the wonderful sites that South Dakota had to offer and we were out and about everyday taking advantage of the National Parks and Monuments, as well as Custer State Park . Our second morning at the Cabin we were visited by a gang of 8 Turkey's that came walking up over the hill, along with the resident doe's with fawns. The Potter's are great to work with and would recommend this cabin to others. Thanks again for the wonderful time in Custer, SD.

Lovely home, perfect location, fantastic hosts

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I visited Custer and stayed in the cabin for four nights. It was perfect, though we could have brought several more family members and still been really comfortable. The layout is great in terms of an open living space and kitchen, a main level master with a bathroom, an upstairs loft with a great deck, and a large space downstairs for sleeping as well as "hanging out". It would be perfect for a family with teenagers who want to get away from the parents every night-they could have the entire basement area.

Mark and Donita are fantastic hosts-everything we needed was there and they called to make sure we were comfortable. I've stayed in a few vrbo/Homeaway properties and this is the most excellent customer service experience I've had.

The location is terrific-close enough to Custer to be in town in a few minutes yet removed enough to feel like you're part of the wild. We hiked the land and explored the rocks with a glass of wine. It was peaceful. We loved seeing the deer and the turkey roaming around.

Mark and Donita, thanks so much for a terrific experience. I wish you all the best!

Ambiance with extras

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful and inviting log cabin. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cabin has all the extra touches that is need to make it feel like a home away from home. It is in a great location, close to all the Black Hill sites and activities. Being secluded, there is an abundance of wildlife, which adds to the ambiance of this beautiful property. Mr. and Mrs. Potter were very professional and responsive, always quickly addressing all my questions. I strongly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a great Black Hills vacation rental.

A perfect hideaway close to everything

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place. As others have said, Mark and Donita really need to put some more pictures on this page as the interior and exterior both are beautiful. We were out here on our motorcycles and spent every day riding the black hills. The cabin and the property are wonderful. Secluded, peaceful yet close to town. We saw deer in the yard every day. The place is wonderfully equipped for anything you need and Mark & Donita checked in on us to make sure we arrived ok, had what we needed, and even provided some old rags to clean our bikes with. The kitchen/dining/great room was a great place to unwind in the evenings. If you have kids, the downstairs provides a great place for them to get away and do their own thing. The only things that I would have liked different was if the upstairs bedroom had a door (it has curtains) and if the bathroom and bedrooms had some kind of latch to keep them closed.

Thanks, Mark & Donita for letting us enjoy your little piece of heaven in the Black Hills. If we get back that way this place will for sure be the first property we check out to stay.
