Secluded and "unconnected" delight
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at this mountain/farm retreat. The chalet was very clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the trails on the property as well as the wildlife viewing. The fact that there was an all-day snow event while we were there was an added benefit - we enjoyed hiking in the snow and nice fires in the huge fireplace in the chalet! The owner lives on the property and checked to make sure we had everything we needed - had even installed new appliances before we got there! We hope to go back soon.
The property sits halfway up a mountain with a grassy pasture to look down on and the back and sides are nestled into beautiful hardwoods. Lots of walking trails through the woods for birding and other wildlife. A 20-30 minute drive takes you to the town of Franklin and/or Sylva with shopping, coffee shops and some great restaurants. Lots to see and do.
The house is very comfortable: two single beds downstairs with a full bath and a king bed in the loft upstairs with a half bath. The den is a huge, open space with a comfortable sofa and TV. The kitchen is small with full sized appliances, but not much prep room.
We had a very relaxing week here with no TV, internet or phone, just enjoying our surroundings. For those of you who feel lost without connectivity, going into town was a short drive where you could get on line easily.
Martin and Melinda were excellent hosts. They responded to my inquiry in a few hours, were there to give us the keys and gave us all the information we needed for the week. I'd highly recommend this property for a couple or small family.
Wonderful mountain views
The views from this place made the trip, mountains during the days and stars at night. Overall the chalet was great. Our family of five (2 adults and 3 kids [5, 2, & 0.75 yrs]) fit perfectly in the chalet. Everything was clean when we arrived and picking up the key was no problem. Even though small, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. We spent most of our trip exploring the mountains around the Franklin area, but we also explored some of the the streams, an old cottage, pond, and cows on the 200 acre farm this chalet is on. Martin, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating. There was no cell phone service at the chalet but we could get spotty coverage else where on the property. The only down side to this property were the curvy roads leading to the farm. We did a lot of coming and going and driving around the Franklin area I have had my fair share of curvy roads for a while. Although after a weekend of testing the roads I would recommend Mountain Grove Rd down to Franklin over Ellijay Rd. The views were better and the road was in better condition, even though some of it was gravel. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a mountain retreat.
Quiet and breathtaking views
My husband, 2 toddlers and I decided to go to the mountains, and after looking for a while we found this place. We stayed for a week and completely enjoyed every moment. There is so much to do on the property from hiking to just sitting on the big porch looking out at the beautiful land and spectacular view of the mountains. It was quiet and private. Town was 15 minutes away but going up or down the mountain was amazing! Beautiful vista's and waterfalls along the way. An amazing place... worth every penny and then some!

We drove up from FL with our ATV and had a fantastic time. We rode all the trails on the farm and many off the farm. :) The chalet was very comfortable and the fireplace was a nice treat as it did get cold while we were there. The fall foliage was pure eye candy. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the farm. Wish we had more time to explore the area and do more hiking. So much to see and do...
Pan for rubies and garnets on the property.
