About Debby Palmer

We are proud to be able to offer this fine home for your vacation and glad you have chosen to spend some time on Lake Jocassee and this beautiful part of our country.

Debby Palmer purchased this house in 2017

Why Debby Palmer chose Salem

Originally constructed as the full time residence for a live in caretaker for Whitewater Lodge. The home is now available for rental to those who know the special magic surrounding Lake Jocassee. Lake Jocassee is known by some as the Lake Tahoe of the East. With its crystal clear waters and thousands of acres of protected land, there is nowhere else that has the same magic as Lake Jocassee.

What makes this house unique

Quiet, solitude and togetherness are often the things in our hectic world that truly rejuvenate and draws us closer together. Lake Jocassee offers that in spades, but what we really like about Jocassee Haven is that due to the location of the home on the lot, we never hear lake noise on the few days of the year even when many boaters are out. It is that sense of being enveloped in the mountains and away from it all that makes us love Lake Jocassee so very much and especially a stay in Jocassee Haven.

Private covered dock with sundeck on private sandy beach, horseshoes, within a gated community surrounded by nearly 50,000 acres of protected wilderness. Fishing is everywhere- streams, rivers, and of course Lake Jocassee, home to numerous state records and 10+ pound bass. Not to forget the waterfalls throughout the lake. During the off season, thousands of acres of public land are available for hunting, off roading, and exploring. The Foothills trail is just a few ridges away. This home was just completed in 2008 and built with exquisite attention to every detail. Feel free to bring your boats, the dock will accommodate up to three full size boats.

Would like to see better pillows and better cellular service but other than that it was great

Owner's Response: Jessica I appreciate your feedback and since we have just purchased the properties we are working to make improvements for our guests. We have purchased all new pillows for the houses. Unfortunately cell phone service is an issue up here in the mountains. We are looking into purchasing a booster to see if that will help. Thank you for visiting with us and we look forward to having you return in the future. Debby

Nice property

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The area is beautiful. I found the home to be average- could use a little updating. The upstairs bed creaked very loudly which woke me up several times during the night. The sheets had several hairs on them, which I'm assuming was cat or dog hair. So I didn't sleep in them, but rather on them. It was very dusty. The porch and windows were covered in spider webs. For such a high cleaning fee, I was expecting a cleaner home. But it did line up with most average cabins, so I was happy overall. We didn't spend a lot of time in the house, so we had a great trip overall. There is a beautiful lookout right up the road, and Whitewater Falls are super close. Very beautiful. Oh-last thing to note (but I could be completely misunderstanding something here): It appears that the code to the house doesn't change. That seems very unsafe. What would stop a previous renter from entering, if they wanted to?

Very nice!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful cabin! We were eight adults and never felt crowded together. The path to the dock was not difficult at all and the dock itself was very nice with a breathtaking view from the top. I would definitely stay again if I travel to the area.

Great getaway to lake jocassee

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time .The house and Lake Jocassee are a great place to vacation. We call it "Lake George" of the south. My husband misses Lake George NY which is located in the adirondack mountains . It only takes 5 and a half hours from the beach , so this has become our go to spot for mountain/lake serenity. The office/laundry/sleeping space became our boys house. They liked having their own space. The first morning we were there we saw a young bear right outside the front deck on the driveway.Hummingbirds, butterflies, dragonflies ,various birds and we saw turkeys on the way to the house. We would rock on the front porch with our a.m. coffee and listen to nature. It was great!!!It was nice to have a private dock space for our boat. The boat dock was great to hang out, relax, fish and enjoy the lake. The house was nice and comfortable and we enjoyed grilling our trout that we caught in the lake. We tubed , fished and explored all the waterfalls and cool islands on the lake. .Everyone had a great time and we will be back soon!

Beautiful place! Beautiful lake!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Joccassee Cottage! The kitchen and home was stocked with everything you could possibly need to enjoy getting away from it all. Every detail was thought of... even down to the fluffy towels! One thing that was missing that might be a great addition was a DVD player... we brought movies but couldn't watch. The week we were there happened to be 90 degree days and unfortunately we experienced issues with the A/C. But the owners and caretaker made sure it was in working order very quickly! As others have stated, there is a steep incline down to the lake. It's a clear and easy path though and not near as steep as most on the lake. We had no cell service even with Verizon but were fine with unplugging for the week. Cashiers is about a 30 min drive for the closest restaurants, groceries and Buck's for coffee and wifi. We had plenty of room on the dock for our kayaks and paddle board and had a blast taking them out each day to see the waterfalls and experience the lake. We can't wait to come for another visit!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write and to tell us about your experience on Lake Jocassee and Jocassee Haven. Even with constant attention, unexpected snafus are bound to happen and we are glad that we could easily solve. We do have a DVD but it is inside of the BOSE surround sound, maybe an unexpected place - we will be sure to have information in the House binder for our next guest. It is a great place to unplug and unwind and I am glad that you have a time to explore the neighboring towns. Thanks again for staying with us and especially for taking the time to write. We are so appreciative that you did so and that you stayed with us.
