This house has a name - Sunrise House. It was built, lovingly, as a retirement home by a careful cowboy. The site was picked for it's easy access and yet outstanding views. You can enjoy your coffee on the deck and watch the neighbors cattle herd graze below.

The house itself is windowed with a Frank Lloyd Wright design on the east for morning light. Hardwood floors with area wool rugs are warm and elegant. The master suite features a king sleigh bed with the same eastern view. This suite has a walk in shower and toilet with adjoining room sink. The second bedroom has a queen bed and it's own extra deep bath tub & shower combo and toilet facilities.

About Ellen

We are old cattle and dude ranchers. We built the Sunrise Home after we sold the ranch. The home was built to capture the full length of the Columbia Mountain range east of Kalispell. It sits above the Fabulous Flathead valley. Each hour of the day brings new sights with the glow of sunrise early, the green pastures below with horses grazing, and the twinkle of lights as night settles over the valley.

Why Ellen chose Kalispell

We built this house to look onto a quiet beautful world that is known as the Flathead Valley. There are deer near and birds in the sky out front. Guests find all the comforts of home when coming back from an exciting day of learning, seeing and enjoying. This area has attracted tourists since the railroad companies first built the rails and hotels to allow people to visit.

What makes this house unique

It's quiet, yet not to far to go into town to hear the live music at the park or visit with friends. There's always another flower that needs to be planted to see if the deer that come each day will leave this new one alone. We never tire of watching the light on the mountain range across the flathead valley. There's plenty hiking right up the hill behind us if we want to stretch a leg before dinner. The home is available for a one party long term lease over the winter months.

It's is rented at a reasonable rate on a six month lease to the appropriate party who appreciate what the home and location offers. And there is always a glorious sunrise.

Best Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent the week of Oct. 8-15, 2016 in this beautiful home. Montana's weather put on a show for us, and we were able to experience fall color and winter snow both during that time. The proximity of Sunrise House to Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake, Whitefish, and other great spots allowed us to enjoy our vacation to the fullest. This home is warm and inviting, and the views are drop-dead gorgeous. But who would have thought that the highlight of our trip would be having dinner with the owner, Ellen? If you're lucky, you might get to spend a little time with her, too. We highly recommend Sunrise House. You will not be disappointed!

Owner's Response: Oh hey. I am Blessed. You two are just so much in love with each other....anybody would have a great night out with you. That shrimp and grits dish was outstanding, only being upstaged by our stroll amid Whitefish's sweet night scene. Here's to next summer in the mountains!

Serenity, Mountain Vistas, and Much, Much, More!

  • 5 of 5

The recipe for a dream vacation rental has a number of key ingredients my husband and I can't do without. They include comfort, cleanliness, and convenience. Sunrise House pulls all of these elements together in the most wonderful of ways. Throw in the magnificent views of the Rockies and you have a winning combination for sure. We're happy that we had the opportunity to spend more than a week in this lovely setting.

Sunrise House was homey. It was relaxing. It was quiet! That last quality is super important to us and so we were triply, triply thrilled with this rental. The presence of wildlife -- especially the adorable young deer and their mother that we frequently saw feeding -- reinforced that we were far from the suburbs of Chicago that we left behind.

Sunrise House delivers a wonderful sense of being remote, up a long drive on the top of a hill, while also offering convenient access to town and to Glacier National Park, which we visited several times. Of course, a review of this rental cannot end without commenting how wonderful Ellen was to work with: lovely, gracious, and overflowing with hospitality. We were grateful that she shared her beautiful home with us. Ellen: you rock!

Outstanding Home

  • 5 of 5

Sunrise is absolutely wonderful. The home is beautiful, comfortable, and has everything you could ask for and more. The views will knock your socks off. And you will be treated to daily visits from deer. Consider them your welcoming treat. And Ellen is a treasure. You will learn a lot about her and her husband's interesting life. Thank you so much for helping us to have one of the best vacations ever.

Owner's Response: The building site was picked so the two retiring cattle and guest ranchers could sit and watch the shadows play over the mountains across the Flathead Valley. Thank you for your appreciation of our home. And the deer, well they graze in the yard all year long. Be well and looking forward to your next visit.

I'd give it six stars if I could, better than the pictures!

One of the best places My wife and I have stayed in 30+ years of October trips to the mountains. Immaculate, well appointed, great kitchen, very comfortable beds, wraparound porch and big sky views from every window. The deck is a perfect place to chill with a glass of wine after a day of adventure.

Convenient to Kalispell and Rosauers Grocery, a great place to get your food and wine.

We took day trips to the north to Glacier and Whitefish and a day trip to the South around Flathead Lake to the bison range. Incredible views everywhere.

Finally, Ellen was wonderful. She was super helpful, interesting and fun! You have to read some of the newspaper articles in the house about the Hargrave cattle ranch and guest ranch that Ellen and Leo Hargrave owned. Definitely adds a Western charm to the trip.

Thank you Ellen for a wonderful time.

Owner's Response: It.s always been our practice to listen to the guests and give them what they expect for their hard earned dollars. Then gift just a little bit more. Thanks folks for reinforcing that attitude as we continue sharing our home.

This house is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed our morning coffee (in the very cool mountain air) from the wrap-around deck. Thank you, Ellen, for a wonderful vacation rental. I wish we could have stayed longer!
