A week with extended family here was exactly what we hoped for (despite imperfect weather). With plenty of inside space and a huge kitchen it held our large group with room to spare on the rainy days. When the sun was out we paddled on the river, swam in the lake, and drove to some of the great coastal towns close by for the classic Maine oceanside experience. Wonderful slice of downeast rural life!
My Book Club of 7 women all enjoyed our stay at this house. It had 5 bedrooms and enough beds for all of us to have our own. Also, it is large enough to spread out for some time alone as well. The outdoors were wonderful too- the large deck, firepit, and the use of kayaks that were there. The general store just down the way is a "gem" for sure- we visited many times for breakfast, lunch and even pizza for dinner. The state park about 1/2 mile away has a beautiful sand beach and view. We also took a day trip to BoothBay using the suggestions in the guide. My favorite place in the house was the screened in porch. I highly suggest this house for large groups. It is wonderful!
The house was your typical farm house with all the charm and quirks of an older home, but had all the conveniences of a modern home. I love to cook so we made many meals in the big kitchen. We were a family of 12, 10 adults and 2 children so we really enjoyed the space available for everyone to spread out for some privacy and yet come together when we wanted to. The weather was perfect so we spent a lot of time outside on the back deck and the front porch. Unfortunately, a storm come through the night before our stay and we did go down by the stream due to some tree damage, but I think the 9 and 10 year old would have loved playing down there, looking for frogs and fishing. We enjoyed the firepit. The house was centrally located to where we wanted to go. We would definitely go back.
Seven of us—grandma, son, daughter, grandchildren—spent two lovely weeks in this comfortable home easily accessible to Damariscotta Lake and Park. Returning visitors, we drove to our favorite places both on the coast and inland but also spent time relaxing in the house and on the grounds. The weather, which varied from overcast and rainy to warm and sunny, did not disrupt our days. The many fans available in the upstairs bedrooms made sleeping comfortable on a few hot nights. We cooked in the well-stocked kitchen and on the outdoor grill and roasted marshmallows over the fire pit. Our only complaint, which everyone in Maine shared this summer, was the unusual number of mosquitoes. A collection of bug spray was provided.

About the host
Hosted by Frederick & Laura MacFadgen
We’re the Macs, and Maine has always been a special place for our family. Fred grew up spending time in the Damariscotta region, where his grandparents lived in nearby Damariscotta Mills.
In 2020, we took over the family home after the passing of Fred’s father, affectionately known as “Mad Dog,” following a long health battle. Since then, we’ve lovingly updated and cared for the property while preserving the warmth, character, and memories that make it so special to us.
Hosting gives us the opportunity to share a place we truly love with others looking to experience the beauty of Midcoast Maine - from lake days and kayaking to local food, small towns, and peaceful evenings outdoors.
We hope your stay is filled with relaxation, adventure, and unforgettable memories. Explore, taste, connect, and enjoy all that Maine has to offer.
Why they chose this property
We love this area because it offers the perfect balance of peaceful Maine nature and easy access to everything that makes Midcoast Maine special.
Nestled along scenic Davis Stream near Damariscotta Lake, the neighborhood is quiet, relaxing, and ideal for guests looking to slow down and enjoy the outdoors. Whether it’s kayaking to the lake, enjoying a beach day at Damariscotta Lake State Park, hiking nearby preserves, or gathering around the fire pit after a day exploring the coast, there’s something here for every season.
We also love how centrally located the home is to many of our favorite Maine destinations, including Damariscotta, Camden, Boothbay Harbor, local breweries, oyster farms, hiking trails, and small coastal towns.
The property itself was designed with families and groups in mind, with large gathering spaces, spacious bedrooms, and a dining table perfect for everything from lobster dinners to summer holiday celebrations
What makes this property unique
What makes our property unique is the combination of space, privacy, and authentic Maine charm.
Unlike many crowded vacation areas, our home is located in the quiet town of Jefferson, where guests can experience a more peaceful and local side of Midcoast Maine while still being close to lakes, hiking, coastal towns, restaurants, breweries, and outdoor activities.
The property itself offers rare large-group functionality, with spacious open-concept living areas, oversized bedrooms, multiple gathering spaces, and room for families and friends to comfortably spend quality time together. Whether it’s sharing a lobster dinner around the dining table, relaxing on the screened porch, kayaking to Damariscotta Lake, or enjoying evenings around the fire pit, the home was designed to create memorable experiences together.
One of our favorite parts of the property is the peaceful outdoor setting. Guests can enjoy incredible stargazing by the fire pit at night, fall asleep to the sounds of nature along the stream, and fish for bass right from the backyard waterfront area.
We also love that guests can enjoy the feeling of “getting away from it all” without sacrificing convenience, modern amenities, or access to some of the best destinations in Midcoast Maine.
