Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2). Discounts for more than two night stays.

Wood Cliff Cabin is a secluded four-season retreat, a small hand-built haven providing luxurious beauty and alternative energy, perched on a cliff, 80' above a mountain stream. One room convenience includes a queen loft bed, fully equipped kitchen, deck and plenty of storage. In the adjacent bath house you will find the sauna, shower and composting toilet. Beautiful details complement the treetop views, including the 80’ cliff overlooking our mountain creek. Your host built this unique cabin in 2009, using ten different woods, with forest-honoring window friezes, custom metalwork and local stone.

The cabin is a five minute walk from your car. We will deliver you and your luggage to the site in our Kubota utility vehicle, which you may use during your stay. Once you arrive, we will introduce you to the energy systems. 12-volt batteries supply power for LED lighting, stereo, a ceiling fan, as well as cell phone and laptop charging. Propane runs the refrigerator, cook stove, a wall heater, a Weber grill on the deck, and additional lighting. A lovely woodstove provides warmth and charm. Our delicious well water is gravity-fed to the cabin and bath house.

We welcome travelling contemplatives, romantics, naturalists and artists to our hermitage.

When you are seeking restoration that uninterrupted time offers, come to our quiet retreat and become one with the forest.

Experience conscious consumption and focused attention to details. Enjoy the heightened awareness that only solitude brings.

Give yourself a solo or couple vacation devoted to recovering peace and joy. Slow down to the rhythm of nature and your own pace.

About michael kryzytski

Mike is a professional cabinet and furniture maker. He built the entire cabin as if it were a cabinet and furnished the interior with his own work. Nancy is a calligrapher and artist, and her work adorns the inside of the cabin as well. Our house is five minutes from the cabin, so we are generally available to assist you in any way necessary.

michael kryzytski purchased this cabin in 2009

Why michael kryzytski chose Lewisburg

Mike and Nancy have been dreaming of building a small cabin and sauna on this property since 1989. In 2005 Mike built the wood-fired sauna which now also houses the shower and toilet for the adjacent cabin, which was completed in the Spring of 2010. The property is ideally situated, minutes from the Bald Eagle State Forest in one direction and the historic town of Lewisburg, 15 minutes in the other direction.

What makes this cabin unique

Listen to the quiet music of the creek, the soft song of the wind in the trees, the welcome interruptions of birds’ many calls. Smell the clean forest air, fragrant pines, pennyroyal or even skunk cabbage! Enjoy the rich mossy forest floor and cozy wood fires. Observe the play of light, constantly changing. Sun rises late to wake you in the loft bed, then sparkles on the water and projects surprise animations and shadows all around the cabin before setting over the deck. Your fresh meals grilled out on the deck or enjoyed inside wake up your taste buds. Perhaps you’ll try a wintergreen berry? Our pure clean well water is truly delicious. Wade in the shallow creek and dunk in the deeper pools. Play with clay from the banks, hug those trees, and touch the stones, bones and cones you will find. In Winter, fire-up the sauna and experience the refreshing feeling.

Great experience

  • 5 of 5

Great weekend getaway if you’re looking for to just enjoy your own company. Everything was great! The kitchen is stocked pretty nicely, lucky for us because we forgot to bring cooking oil. Outside of enjoying nature and the sauna, we thought to bring some movies to enjoy on a laptop for entertainment. My only suggestion would be to bring your own entertainment if desired, the provided selection could use some updated board games & books.

Pretty, well-built place with really good vibes

  • 5 of 5

Ok, so there's a pit toilet and it smells a bit. You can't run a hair dryer because the cabin's setup runs on battery power. If you count those things important, this might not be the place for you. But if you (like me) miss spending time in nature, are looking for some calm and quiet, and enjoy taking a sauna, book this cabin. If I could, I'd buy a subscription and go once a month!

The owner is a friendly, unobtrusive host who will make sure you know all you need to know and then leave you to yourself. The cabin is through a thick wood, over a small rise many (50? 100?) yards behind the main house, where you have plenty of privacy in which to enjoy the whispers of the trees and the cheerful sound of the burbling creek below. I heard hawks nearby, watched tiny Carolina wrens hopping underneath logs to find a meal, and spotted a few beautiful deer.

The cabin is beautifully built, perfectly clean and everything is in excellent repair; the place is solid and welcoming. My favorite was the kitchen, a marvel of organization and tidiness. Pantry shelf nicely stocked with some basic supplies. I used the propane grill on the outside porch over the creek, the wood burning stove in the cabin, the wood burning sauna and enjoyed them all with zero problems. There is a small supply of puzzles, books and local touring (car, bike) maps for visitors.

If you are intrigued by tiny housing, or just want to stay in the woods in a rustic but well-made and beautiful place, this is for you. Excellent vibes here <3

Amazing place to get away!

Beautifully hand-crafted, clean and cozy cabin! Peaceful and quiet location! With all the open windows we felt like we were waking up in the trees. It was perfect for our 1st wedding anniversary. Thank you so much!

More than we expected and will be visiting again!

  • 5 of 5

This tiny cabin was handcrafted by the owners and hosts, Nancy and Michael. We thoroughly enjoyed their craftsmanship and their hospitality. Great people! The surroundings were serene and beautiful, overlooking a small creek. The quiet peacefulness of the woods combined with the cozy, warm inviting cabin created a perfect weekend getaway. Lewisburg is within 15 minutes of the cabin and we enjoyed exploring the town and Bucknell's campus.
