Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2). Discounts for more than two night stays.

Wood Cliff Cabin is a secluded four-season retreat, a small hand-built haven providing luxurious beauty and alternative energy, perched on a cliff, 80' above a mountain stream. One room convenience includes a queen loft bed, fully equipped kitchen, deck and plenty of storage. In the adjacent bath house you will find the sauna, shower and composting toilet. Beautiful details complement the treetop views, including the 80’ cliff overlooking our mountain creek. Your host built this unique cabin in 2009, using ten different woods, with forest-honoring window friezes, custom metalwork and local stone.

The cabin is a five minute walk from your car. We will deliver you and your luggage to the site in our Kubota utility vehicle, which you may use during your stay. Once you arrive, we will introduce you to the energy systems. 12-volt batteries supply power for LED lighting, stereo, a ceiling fan, as well as cell phone and laptop charging. Propane runs the refrigerator, cook stove, a wall heater, a Weber grill on the deck, and additional lighting. A lovely woodstove provides warmth and charm. Our delicious well water is gravity-fed to the cabin and bath house.

We welcome travelling contemplatives, romantics, naturalists and artists to our hermitage.

When you are seeking restoration that uninterrupted time offers, come to our quiet retreat and become one with the forest.

Experience conscious consumption and focused attention to details. Enjoy the heightened awareness that only solitude brings.

Give yourself a solo or couple vacation devoted to recovering peace and joy. Slow down to the rhythm of nature and your own pace.

About michael kryzytski

Mike is a professional cabinet and furniture maker. He built the entire cabin as if it were a cabinet and furnished the interior with his own work. Nancy is a calligrapher and artist, and her work adorns the inside of the cabin as well. Our house is five minutes from the cabin, so we are generally available to assist you in any way necessary.

Why michael kryzytski chose Lewisburg

Mike and Nancy have been dreaming of building a small cabin and sauna on this property since 1989. In 2005 Mike built the wood-fired sauna which now also houses the shower and toilet for the adjacent cabin, which was completed in the Spring of 2010. The property is ideally situated, minutes from the Bald Eagle State Forest in one direction and the historic town of Lewisburg, 15 minutes in the other direction.

What makes this cabin unique

Listen to the quiet music of the creek, the soft song of the wind in the trees, the welcome interruptions of birds’ many calls. Smell the clean forest air, fragrant pines, pennyroyal or even skunk cabbage! Enjoy the rich mossy forest floor and cozy wood fires. Observe the play of light, constantly changing. Sun rises late to wake you in the loft bed, then sparkles on the water and projects surprise animations and shadows all around the cabin before setting over the deck. Your fresh meals grilled out on the deck or enjoyed inside wake up your taste buds. Perhaps you’ll try a wintergreen berry? Our pure clean well water is truly delicious. Wade in the shallow creek and dunk in the deeper pools. Play with clay from the banks, hug those trees, and touch the stones, bones and cones you will find. In Winter, fire-up the sauna and experience the refreshing feeling.

Peaceful Cabin Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our time at the cabin was wonderful! The cabin itself, the views, and the hospitality of the owner were simply amazing. They provide everything you will need for your stay minus food and clothing. The dogs loved swimming and running around in the river just below the cabin. This is a perfect getaway for couples, families, and pet owners. We will definitely be back again.

Peaceful weekend in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Misha and Nancy have set things up very thoughtfully. All you need is there (including a nice CD collection, to play on the "car stereo" system (also bluetooth and radio), except for food and clothing, as they say. The fridge and freezer are plenty large, and they work well. The outdoor grill and indoor kitchen facilities make it easy to prepare meals that you will want to enjoy on the deck that overlooks the stream.

The bath house is about 15 paces from the cabin. In the middle of the night, once you climb down from the bed, the path is well lit.

In addition to very short walks on the property (the one to get to the stream is nice, with chairs set up for you there), there are numerous hikes in nearby state parks that you can reach within 15-45 minutes in your car. A Drive-In theater (yes, they still exist!) is about 20 minutes' drive to the north. Even though it was hotter and more humid than normal for mid-August, we were fine without air-conditioning when we used the fan, Also, no TV or wifi, but the 4G signal was good, which helped with weather forecasts, planning side trips, etc.

If we hadn't left on side trips, we would not have seen another soul for our entire stay. Nice if you are looking for privacy and solitude.

Relaxing, peaceful, and private

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was gorgeous, very conveniently laid out and the accommodations were great. Just a short hike down to the creek. A very cool and comfortable off-grid experience. We would love to stay there again.

No Air Conditioning means a hot cabin in summertime

  • 3 of 5

On the positive side, the owner was very friendly. He showed me the ins and outs and how everything works. Service was spectacular.

I had a relaxing time in Pennsylvania, but the lack of air conditioning was a major letdown for me. There is just a fan and that's it. I spent most of my time at the beach in R.B. Winter State park, but when I get home, I would often sweat badly, and the sweat meant that I attracted bugs even though I kept repellent on me.

I can see why this would be highly recommended on the fall and winter seasons, but I would not come here in summertime. I know about the reputation but I have to be very honest about my experience.

Owner's Response: The guest neglects to mention that the weather was exceptionally hot and humid during his stay (high 90's). These types of temperatures are rare here, maybe a total of one or two weeks per year. Most summer days here are pleasant and nights are cool. Since the cabin is off-grid and powered by batteries, an air conditioning unit is not an option. We're sorry the guest was uncomfortable during his stay.
