About the property

Home, 4 Bedrm-2 Full Bth (Sleeps 8 adults1 child) Lg fenced yard & deck& parking

SNUG HARBOR Cottage in Eastport via the Spa Creek bridge on Compromise Street. (It is the bridge by the Marriott that raises and lowers.) Our prices are very straightforward and reasonable. I try to stay at VRBO properties and I am always disappointed when the price is not what is advertised. We attract many Mids, St. John's and sailing families. This is our home and a home is what you will get. By keeping our rates low, you can visit more often. If you stay one week our price is only $999/week Friday to Friday rental as long as you book Friday to Friday. Or $225/night for shorter stays. This our true price for 6 people. Our one-time cleaning fee is $150, so the longer you stay, the cheaper cleaning becomes.

The house is available for Commissioning Week 2020 when the weekly rate is higher ($2999). If you are wondering whether this is great place to stay, the house is booked for CW 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

I am happy to accept Per Diem rates for Legislative Period.

I am also happy to have long term rentals if you are between homes. We have a fenced yard with grass and parking inside the fence.

This is a great house for a sailing team or Boat Show exhibitor.

This is not some dingy condo decorated with a painting of a sailboat and we have not stripped this down like a motel. You will find a bottle of ketchup in the refrigerator and some of my kids' games in the cupboard. You will find books and an umbrella if you need to borrow one. You will find memories of our own happy times filled in this house full of good karma.

You cannot do this well in a Comfort Inn. Comfort Inns don't have kitchens and there are no Comfort Inns 1.1 mile from the City Dock in Downtown Annapolis. This is the perfect place to spend time visiting your Mid, visit family, tour the City or cheer your sailor or athlete. A cozy pied a terre while visiting the area. Eat meals in and check-in at work while you are active outdoors in Annapolis. Parking is a breeze and there is space for two cars within our fenced yard.

We have all the amenities you will need for a comfortable visit. The fastest wifi, complete kitchen, huge deck with charcoal bar-b-cue facilities, big back yard with fire pit, comfortable bedrooms and new beds. New appliances, new beds, new TV and wifi blue-tooth compatible, washer/dryer, game table with poker supplies for a family game! New HVAC system installed in 2014.

Outdoor games-croquet and badminton and vintage indoor games for the kids.

Mid-town Annapolis can be congested and parking is at such a premium. If you have to drive somewhere you lose your parking space. Here we have plenty of parking, fenced yard, we allow dogs and we have a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can recuperate from busy days in Annapolis.

Parking was a 'must' for our son and his friends while he was a student at USNA. The house is not stuffy with lots of comfy chairs and my favorite vintage and sailing nautical decor. The past summer we added a new HVAC system, a fire pit, chaise lounges and outdoor table and chairs to the deck for complete outdoor enjoyment. There is an umbrella and more landscaping now that Spring has arrived. Your Mid will love entertaining on the deck out back in the private back yard.

We feel safe and comfortable and welcome every time we come to visit. Now that our son has graduated from USNA, we still return for weddings, graduations and just because the Chesapeake Bay and the Annapolis area are so much fun to visit. We attend the Boat Shows in October, host friends with students at USNA or St. John's College, and our son goes back to see his classmates for reunions. He was recently stationed in Virginia and spent every weekend at the house attending Navy Football Home Games. The restaurants are wonderful in our neck of the woods. You can walk to all the high end ones in Eastport such as Ruth's Chris, Chart House, Boatyard, Carroll's Creek, Blackwall Hitch, Vin33 and Pussers. The scenery is inspiring and the memories are precious. When you come to our Snug Harbor, we want you to feel as though you have come home whether on business, vacation or visiting family or students. Its sailing theme is relaxed and fun.

The house has been totally redone. We just purchased a new washer/dryer, vacuum cleaner and HVAC systems. Kitchen and all appliances are new. Both bathrooms have all new fixtures though the original tile and tub in the downstairs bath has been lovingly restored, it is very 50's.

When our son was a student at USNA we enjoyed visiting him so much, we soon realized that the best way to see him regularly was to have a permanent place where he and his friends could come to rest and where we could feed them and just spend time with the youth of this wonderful institution. The home allowed us a haven or a safe harbor and gave us the opportunity to explore the area and begin to feel like we belonged in the community. Our neighbors are wonderful. Both on either side have a history of working at the Academy or sponsoring Mids.

Please call us if you have any questions. We'd love to have you as guests.

Please note that Snug Harbor is located in Eastport across the Spa Creek or Compromise Street Bridge. Eastport is very diverse. We are on the west side of Eastport. We can afford to keep our prices low and be affordable to everyone because we are close to some diverse assisted housing in our neighborhood and if you are not comfortable with working class folks or you come from a homogenized place you may be more comfortable at a hotel. We are from the OC and we absolutely love Eastport and our neighbors in Eastport are much more friendly than our neighbors here at home`. Eastport has $1 Million dollar homes 2 blocks away on Spa Creek. $700K town homes around the corner and then there is our neighborhood of so-called affordable $300K homes. This is important to know. Some folks are not used to the diversity of a city and as the state capital, Annapolis has provided affordable housing within walking distance to the city center allowing residents to walk to work. Our neighbors in our subdivision are homeowners and are associated with the Academy or City government. I am in my '50's and stay there all the time by myself so do my 80 year-old parents. Don't miss a great bargain if we have availability. We like to make it nice for ourselves when we are there so you will be very comfortable and happy with the amenities and space for the reasonable price. We spoiled our boy and his classmates and they are out ably serving our country so we think they deserved it!

About The Owner

We are a close family of sailors, boaters and patriotic supporters of the United States Navy. We love visiting Annapolis and we are proud of our children serving in the military. Close to home, we have adopted four Marines currently serving our country.

Please visit our other family listings on VRBO in Westcliffe,Colorado-a great family reunion Lake Lodge, and in Davenport,Iowa a gorgeous restored mansion on the banks of the Mississippi River. Both are great reunion properties for big groups.

The Owner purchased this house in 2004

Why The Owner chose Annapolis

Perhaps we spoiled him, but it is hard to consider a young Ensign spoiled. The determination and dedication necessary to survive and thrive made us want to support our son, his friends and other Mid families in every way. We were looking for wonderful neighbors and a family neighborhood. Our neighbors keep an eye on the house when we are not visiting and call us if needed. We have had the pleasure of 6 newly minted Ensigns staying at the house during vacation, pre-deployment or while waiting to be transferred to their first assignment. This contact with some of the finest young men and women in this country has given us great pride and has strengthened our ties to the Academy.

What makes this house unique

We love to take walks downtown, barbecue for large numbers of friends and Midshipmen and women in the back yard. Lend the keys to tired Mids and receive photos of memorable milestones in their Academy experience. We have our favorite restaurants which we will be happy to share with you and we love to go down to the metro station and take the subway into Washington D.C. to visit the museums of the Smithsonian. Baltimore is only 30 minutes away, the BWI airport is even closer. The food in Baltimore is fabulous and the Inner Harbor is fun to visit. We try to attend every Army/Navy game and love to visit Philadelphia. This home is a true home with every comfort, fully furnished. It is not stuffy, it is just a fun place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I are returning from our last year's visit except we are bringing 2 additional friends. We have relatives living in the area we will be visiting also. We are all in our late 60's and loved the visit last year.

Not totally happy

  • 2 of 5

We were comfortable, but was surprised to find that it looked like someone just moved out for us to move in for our stay. Food in refrigerator and very cluttered. Place needs an update, especially the outside. Cushions old and dirty and you could not possibly sit on them. Garden could use some tender loving care. Could be a really cute place with some of these areas cleaned up.

Great location for touring the area.

  • 5 of 5

Worked great for a group of 5 interested in visiting Smithsonian, Naval Academy, and Chesapeake Bay. Enjoyed the backyard area with deck, charcoal broiler, and campfire pit. House was well stocked with all needed items - we only had to bring food.

Fun Family Weekend, despite the rainy weather

  • 4 of 5

The house is not large, so our group filled up the space. But, we had sufficient bed/bathrooms--with coordination that always bonds a family. The kitchen was stocked with adequate cooking supplies and we were able to prepare several meals in. We enjoyed playing Balderdash using the game found in the house. The weather finally broke on Saturday and we were able to enjoy Annapolis.

This cozy house worked out great for our family for USNA Commissioning Week 2017.

  • 5 of 5

The home is a 20 minute walk to USNA, so we did not always have to drive to the yard for all the graduation/commissioning week activities. There was plenty of room for us to spread out when there was some down time. We were so busy, we never cooked, but it was nice to have a full size refrigerator for leftovers and to keep drinks cold. There are plenty of great restaurants close by the house. The backyard was nice, but we never really got a chance to use it due to rain and activities.

Comfortable Home at a great price

  • 5 of 5

Cozy Sailor's cottage describes it perfectly. Comfortable with a sailing vibe sort of like the interior of the boat. The owner likes vintage nautical but it doesn't get in your way. And its fun to feel a part of the Eastport neighborhood. We had a great time.

Awesome rental

  • 5 of 5

We were not sure exactly what we would encounter from our online rental but we couldn't have been more pleased. Everything is just as described. Very comfy and what a bargain for our family of 8. Will definitely book this again when we return to the area.
