If you need a break from technology and the world, book a few nights at this comfortable cabin. Nestled in the mountains of WV 35 minutes from either The Homestead or The Greenbrier resorts and 45 minutes from the slopes of Snowshoe Mountain, Space to Breathe is the perfect base for exploring all that Pocahontas County, West Virginia - Nature's Mountain Playground, has to offer. Whether you are looking for an active vacation or a place to just sit and unwind, you're invited to come stay for a bit. Important things to know: The cabin is located just off a main paved highway but it is still in a remote/rural area. The access to the cabin is by a gated gravel driveway (cattle gate on a wheel that you will need to open). The driveway is approximately one fifth mile long and is up an incline. It is washing in some places and has some softer piles of gravel. If it has rained or snowed, there will be mud and puddles. I drive a Mazda Miata and a Ford F350 with 4-wheel drive. The Miata has no issues with the driveway unless there is snow. If there is snow in the forecast, I strongly recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle or that you are prepared to park at the bottom of the drive and walk to the cabin. You can view the driveway by visiting https://www.youtube.com/watch?... There is NO cell phone service at the cabin or within 25-30 minutes of the cabin. If you have cell service over WIFI enabled, you will be able to make and receive calls through the internet over the cabin's WIFI connection. There is no cable TV - only streaming over WIFI. Cabin is not baby, toddler, or young child friendly. Supplemental heat is by a freestanding woodstove that gets very hot. Detailed instructions for using the woodstove are posted on the refrigerator. There are two bedrooms each with a king size bed (VRBO erroneously shows both king beds in a single bedroom). One bedroom and bathroom located across the hall are downstairs. This bedroom has a portable air conditioner unit, ceiling fan, and table top fan. The second bedroom and ensuite bathroom are upstairs. There is no A/C in the upstairs bedroom but there is a ceiling fan and a table top fan. I usually sleep in this bedroom with the balcony door open during the summer. There are two pull-out sleeper twin beds in the downstairs living room, or if you prefer, a queen sized air mattress. Maximum occupancy is 6. There is a portable air conditioner and ceiling fan in the living room. Due to the configuration of the cabin, there is no dining table inside. There is bar seating for 4 and TV trays for 4. There is a dining table that seats 6 on the front porch when the weather is nice. There are no grocery stores, restaurants, or gas stations nearby. Nearest amenities are Warm Springs, VA (25 minutes), White Sulphur Springs, WV (35 minutes), or Marlinton, WV (25 minutes). I provide coffee, tea, and light snacks at the cabin, but please plan to eat before you arrive and/or bring groceries with you especially if you are arriving late. Rental sites may list suggestions in the Explore the Area section of their website, but those suggestions are not supplied or vetted by me. Please confirm all operating hours by contacting any listed businesses directly. If the cabin has been unoccupied for a stretch, you may need to turn on the main water, the stove, and and the hot water heater. Detailed instructions are posted on the refrigerator. There is a whole house generator that will kick on automatically in case of a power outage. As noted, this property is in a remote, rural setting. There is wildlife. The trail cams (two - see below for placement) have captured turkeys, grouse, deer (lots of deer), coyotes, and bears. I have also seen snakes, squirrels, mice (thankfully not in the cabin), rabbits, etc. In cooler weather, ladybugs/beetles will migrate into the cabin. Every effort is made to control them using non-chemical interventions. I spend about a third of my time at the property with my two small dogs, and I do not wish to introduce pesticides into our living space. I have robot vacuums which run multiple times per week, and I am usually at the cabin at least once every two weeks to make sure that everything is tidy and in good order. However, please be aware that you might arrive and find a few dead ladybugs/beetles. This comes with living in this part of West Virginia. There are two trail cams located on the property. One is facing north (toward the cabin - but not triggered by motion at the cabin) just before the curve to right on the driveway. This is at a major wildlife crossing and where I have captured most of the critters listed above on camera). The second is facing south (down the driveway) heading down the first incline into the curve. Your vehicles will trigger both cameras as will walking up or down the driveway. Neither camera will trigger by movement at the cabin and there are no cameras inside the cabin. If you have further questions about the property, please reach out directly to me. I'll be happy to provide any information that I can.

Very nice clean private cabin . The host was very responsive when I had questions. The kitchen was stocked with spices if needed. Just a really nice spot to getaway and enjoy the mountains.
Very clean and well stocked with anything you could possibly need. Amare was very responsive with any questions we had ! Would definitely stay here again!
The cabin was as described by the host. It is private, but very safe feeling. We could use the wifi.We loved that there were two bathrooms, and the bedroom upstairs was large and comfortable. We biked the Greenbrier Trail, and the cabin was close enough on all points, to Marlinton and anywhere we needed to go.As with any VRBO, i would recommend getting in touch with your host to let them know you are enroute, and be sure the door code is set!It was an enjoyable place.

Thank you for taking time to write a review. I apologize that the door code did not work initially. I have never had an issue with it but I’m glad we were able to get it resolved.
This was the best cabin ever!! We loved the fact that it is at a beautiful and private location. The owner was very responsive, keeps it well-maintained, and it was stocked with a lot of supplies. We loved the fact that theres a keurig in the kitchen & both bedrooms. We also loved the fact that the bathrooms had a nice sink, shower, and storage space. The beds and bedding were also really comfortable. We love the fact that it is so private and close enough to marlinton & Snowshoe. We also loved the fact that the kitchen & living room are open and the ceilings are really high. Theres only one small thing that i would change and that iis to keep one of the loveseats and add a full sized couch. But other than that, it is absolutely perfect!! We will definitely be going back a few times a year and sincerely thank the owner for giving us this opportunity. We highly recommend!!
Very nice, handsome, homey, well-equipped, remote “log cabin” on 6 acres of woods. Photos accurate. Host very responsive. Good local info at cabin. Whole-house backup generator worked well during a few storm outages. However: Prior infestation with the ladybug-like Asian lady beetle. Mostly under control with Zevo traps, some of which contained dead beetles. However, there were a few flying about and we boiled (at least) one in the kettle. Disconcertingly, there were many dead beetles on the rails of several windows. The rest of the cabin appeared clean. Not revealed in the listing: We didn't have to, but may need to turn on the water, water heater, stove, toilets, wood stove for supplemental heat. To enter property, need to open a livestock-gate. The “driveway is approximately1/5th of a mile long and is up an incline. …. [it] is gravel. It is washing in some places and there are some places with soft gravel piles.” Listing mentions a restaurant 9 min away. Not mentioned is that it’s open only Fri/Sa/Su. We were there Tu-Fri. Otherwise, the nearest restaurants/groceries/hospital are 25 min on dry roads. Bring food. No cell service for miles around because it’s within the National Radio Quiet Zone (google it) for the must-see Green Bank Observatory. Despite all that and knowing what I now know, I’d gladly stay again if the beetle issues were addressed.

Thank you for your detailed comments! No host likes to hear that their guest had a less than perfect stay, but I will implement what I can of your suggestions. Unfortunately, ladybugs are a feature of rural WV cabins and keeping up with them can be a challenge. The only way to even come close to completely eradicating them is with the monthly use of pesticides. Since my two small dogs and I spend about a third of our time here, I have chosen not to introduce those types of chemicals into our living environment. I understand if that is a deal killer for any return visit. I will add the other items you pointed out to the listing. As far as the restaurant, I did not personally add that information so I will have to ask VRBO if/how it can be modified. Also, technically the cabin is outside the “Quiet Zone” otherwise I wouldn’t even be able to have WiFi 😊. We just have so few people in the county that we don’t rate a lot of towers.
