Incredible Sunsets & Water Views From Quiet, Well-Located Nags Head Cottage

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths (4-5 people maximum capacity INCLUDING children)

Enjoy stunning sunsets over the water from this hidden Nags Head gem! It is the perfect beach getaway for the nature-loving couple or small family. Water views abound from almost every room and both the ocean beach and a beautiful calm-water sound side beach are nearby. With wireless internet throughout the house and on the decks, you can stay in touch while you get away.

This house is fantastic any time of year because of the outstanding views. It maintains a quiet and calm feel even in the busiest months. It's the perfect beach cottage for nature lovers, swimmers, birders, hikers, paddlers, cyclists and anyone who just loves the outdoors (whether you're inside or out!) The view can be enjoyed while sitting comfortably inside or under the covered porch as well.

There is a little known, but lovely and large, white-sand, secluded soundside beach, just a short walk down the street, with calm, shallow water that's great for little ones, swimming or a sunset picnic dinner.

The cottage is perfectly located. The area surrounding it is so peaceful---all you will hear is the call of the osprey, the gentle lapping of water coming ashore, and the lovely sounds of nature. However, you are just a few minutes from Nags Head's best restaurants, groceries, and all the beach action if needed. The house is centrally located making it easy to take a day trip south to Ocracoke or head north in search of the Outer Banks' wild horses. You can also fish, kayak, paddle, or windsurf just steps from the cottage! Hike along the shore up to Jockey's Ridge for a 360 view of the Outerbanks, taking in both the ocean and the sound at once. It's the perfect walk--just 12 minutes to the top of the ridge from the house.

Whether you sit and relax on our water view decks or do your yoga stretches there, don't forget to take in all the wildlife around you: pelicans diving for their meals, bunnies nibbling the grasses, osprey and kingfishers cruising the shoreline, sometimes even pods of porpoises can be seen from the decks!

If you're in the mood for the ever-changing Atlantic Ocean, somedays crashing blue, other days green and gently rolling, the beach is at it's best at the 13 mile post. The Atlantic shore is pristine here, free of the crowds you'll find in Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. The 13 mile post is lined with Nags Head's most beautiful old homes, known as Historic Cottage Row; it is the true heart of Nags Head. The early morning or late afternoon light upon these cottages is sublime. Nags Head's first church, historic St. Andrews-By-The-Sea, is also located just a few blocks away from our cottage, directly between the ocean and the sound, and welcomes everyone for tours or services.

It's a great place for a relaxing getaway. The cottage is stocked with large wine glasses and quality dishes and you can dine with a sunset view each evening. Sip your coffee on the rooftop deck as you gaze out across the water. The water views are what makes this cottage like none other. There are even water views from the indoor showers! Nice touches: 48'' HD TV, ceiling fans in every room, great windows for bird watching, wonderful main room with high ceilings, skylights and large windows with a lovely water view across the sound as far as the eye can see. It's a very special house, come once and you'll want to come again and again.

About Pamela

We are originally from Virginia and Maryland but have been spending lots of time in Nags Head for over half of a century. We met in Paris, have both travelled around the world but feel there is no place as relaxing as our beach cottage in Nags Head. The sunsets each day are unrivaled anywhere and walking to nearby Jockey's Ridge is a spiritual experience. We love the outdoors, the ocean, beautiful views, exquisite food and wine, and the house reflects that.

Pamela purchased this house in 2008

Why Pamela chose Northern Coast & Outer Banks

It's all about the water views and sunsets over the water as seen from the cottage! The huge, oversized windows that were put in specifically to enjoy the water views are quite rare in the area. These wonderful windows allow you to gaze out over the water and take in the view along the coast. The sunsets over the water are unbelievably beautiful and that too, is what makes this a one-of-a-kind beach cottage.

What makes this house unique

Best location, sunsets, and excellent for kids!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time at this property. The location is absolutely perfect. It is right on the sound and so close to everything in Nags Head. The high light of our trip was "catching crabs" as my 2 year old son would call it down by the sandy beach with my husband. My husband walked out into the water with his crab nets and bait and scooped up some crabs for our son to "catch." The little sandy spot is only 20 steps from the house and so perfect for little ones to splash around and play in the sand. Not to mention, the sound side beach is just down the road and absolutely perfect for little kids! We loved the beaches and all the cool places we ate at, but this rental property was by far the highlight of our trip with its great location and incredible views day and night. The owners are so pleasant to work with as well. We definitely plan on returning at some point!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had a great stay and got to do some crabbing too! It's so nice to be just across our quiet, little road from the sound and to have such easy access to it for crabbing, kayaking or just sunset watching. We're glad you appreciated the location of the house. It's difficult to find a more peaceful spot right in the heart of Nags Head. Our sleepy little coastal road is one of Nags Head's best kept secrets and perfect for kids like your little cutie-pie. Come back anytime for "catching crabs" and just relaxing amid the water views. Thanks again and our best to your family.

A lovely retreat to Nags Head in late October

  • 5 of 5

Everything was terrific! We really loved our stay and we had pretty nice weather so we were able to get out each day. The last two nights we had beautiful sunsets – very different from one another, but both special. We loved that the cottage was “off the beaten path.” Very few cars going by; just people out walking and enjoying the views along the sound.

We were especially thankful for Pam’s guest “booklet” which really helped guide us in our decisions about what we’d do in the few days we were there. We generally ate out for lunch (since we were already out) and came back in for the evening for a light meal, which worked well for us. We did get over to Wanchese and O’Neil’s where we got lunch one day and brought home some beautiful tuna for our supper.

We enjoyed exploring the Nags Head Woods, Jockey’s Ridge, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge(south of Nags Head), and of course, walking on the beaches in various locations. The Wildlife Refuge (Pea Island) is large and warrants much more time than we had this visit. The visitor center there is wonderful and the people are helpful and knowledgeable. And coming back from Kitty Hawk and the Wright Brothers National Memorial, we stopped in at the Sweet Frog yogurt place you mentioned. Very good! At one lunch stop, we enjoyed “sugar toads” a small fish that we had never heard of, but loved.

We also drove south and it was a different experience to see the tall dunes coming right up to the road on the ocean side. In the town of Waves (I believe) we could see the kites of kite boarders so drove down to take a look. There we discovered the perfect place to watch them while enjoying a fabulous lunch at Watermen’s Bar and Grill. OUTSTANDING food there to eat inside or outside.

We always appreciate a comfortable bed like the one at the cottage! It was even nicer that we could open the window at night and hear the ocean across the road. We hope to get back here again before too long.

Owner's Response: Thanks Wendy and Mike for all the great recommendations. I can't wait to try Waterman's Bar and Grill in Waves next time I'm down that way and you've reminded me to head to Pea Island again soon. I love learning from our guests! I'm happy you enjoyed hearing the lapping waves in the sound at night--it's so peaceful and really lulls one to sleep. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed your stay and I hope you'll come back next time you're in the area. Thanks for visiting! Pam

Great OBX Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week here and it is by far our favorite cottage we have stayed in. We come to OBX every year and nothing compares to the views this place has to offer. It is close to the sound side beach which is perfect for our 2 small children. Pam is wonderful and will go the extra mile to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We will be back next year !!

If you want amazing views and comfort, stop here. You've found it! You know you're in the right spot when everyone shows up around sunset to do family photos on the beach across the street (happened every night we were there).

The cottage is comfortable, well maintained, and close to everything. The owners are easy to work with, and know Nags Head well.

You will not find a better value in Nags Head.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad your family liked your stay at the cottage and thanks for taking the time to write a review, that was so thoughtful. The sunsets over the water are what drew me to that spot many years ago and we feel so fortunate to have found a cottage on our quiet little street with such lovely water views. Hope you got some pictures while there and hope you will come back down again sometime. Our best to your family.

Excellent Cottage and Experience in Nags Head

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in this cottage and could not have been more impressed by the experience. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and the owners were extremely helpful every step of the way. We traveled across country and were very impressed by the owners' helpfulness. We had never been to the Outer Banks and we are now fans, due to the beautiful scenery, beaches, and the hospitality that we enjoyed. If you are looking for a great cottage, great owners, and a great location, search no further!

The location of the cottage, on the Sound side, is ideal for a quieter experience. It's location was ideal because it is in a quiet area yet so close to the awesome beaches.

Finally, the owners are very pleasant and friendly to work with. They have a great "Renter's Information" book that highlights everything, and I mean everything, that you need to know for your rental experience. This booklet was invaluable to us as we were unfamiliar with the area. They recommend local eateries, beaches, cottage information, shopping, and attractions. I've no doubt that part of the reason we enjoyed our stay so much is related to Pam's thoroughness in ensuring that we had a flawless rental experience.

If you want to enjoy Nags Head, this is a great cottage.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much David and Joy. I'm so glad you enjoyed the Outer Banks and the cottage. I've been exploring the OBX for 50 years and love sharing with our guests all the places that make it so special--whether it's a new yummy restaurant, a quiet beach or a good place to see the wildlife and nature of the OBX. When you just have a week, you don't want to spend that time looking for the best places, you want to experience them and that's why we put together our booklet. Glad you appreciated it and used it. Y'all were great guests and we welcome you back anytime time you travel east again. Thanks for coming to the OBX.
