Chaw’se House: Newly Built in 2015! Bring a Big Group and Find your adventure.

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 13)

2015 marks the inaugural year for the Chaw'se House. Inspired by the Tuolumne river that babbles by the house, the dark blue exterior opens to a colorful interior and brand new furnishings. The views of the river are prime from almost every room and the large deck.

The downstairs has an open floor plan allowing guests to continually enjoy each other's company while in the kitchen, dining room, or living room. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher.

The bedrooms in the house are as follows:

Bedroom #1 (Blue room): Master bedroom with an ensuite and queen size bed downstairs. Bedroom #2 (Olive Green Room) : Queen size bed downstairs. Bedroom#3 (Red Room): Located upstairs. This room has a King sized bed. In addition separated by an optional privacy screen, there is a twin sized bunk bed with a twin sized trundle bed (sleeping a total of 3). Bedroom #4 (Green Room): Located upstairs this room has a King sized bed on one side of the room. On the other side of the room (and separated by a privacy screen if desired) is a Queen sized bed.

The Chaw'se House is fully equipped with central heat and air, 3 bathrooms, washer and dryer, dishwasher, flat screen TV (in the living room), DVD player, both indoor dining area and outdoor dining on the deck, and the perfect location for lazy day lounging by the river.

This colorful house can sleep up to 13 people.

We also have large gardens and lawns to play games and explore not to mention that we are in the middle of national forest so there is quite a bit of hiking that can be done right here at Spinning Wheel Yosemite. The Tuolumne river is also just a few yards away and is great for fishing and swimming.

You might not be surprised but we feel we must let you know, the internet is not a feature that we boast about out here. Being tucked away in the National Forest internet access is technically available, but it is limited, unreliable, and slow (and when we say slow we mean very slow). Basically you can check you email at our airstream business center.

So come on out, relax, read a book, watch a movie, play some games, look for the wild life and unwind at Spinning Wheel Yosemite!

The base rate is for 2 people. October 1 through april 30th $400-May 1st through September 30th $450.

Additional people are charged $35 per night per person.

Theses fees are added to the base rate:

Cleaning fee ($250.00)

Tax on total (10%)

About Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham

The Barsotti family begin vacationing at Spinning Wheel well before 1982. In 1982 when presented with the opportunity to purchase Spinning Wheel, there was no hesitation. Because of their love for the area they crafted a place where others could come and vacation as well. In 2013 Dharma and Eliote took over the property and are now the owners of Spinning Wheel Yosemite. Spinning Wheel Yosemite experienced a big forest fire in 2013 and as a result we had to rebuild this home. It's now a brand new vacation home with all the amenities of modern living while still in a beautiful forest environment.

Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham purchased this house in 1982

Why Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham chose Yosemite Area

Unlike many other vacation properties in the area Spinning Wheel Yosemite offers a very private experience, being in the middle of national forest with no other neighbors for several miles. Each Home (there are 5 in total) is located far enough away from the other where you can feel both connected (if you are renting multiple properties) or private (if you are using one house). Many people come and enjoy staying on the property so much (hiking, BBQing, swimming, lounging by the river and pool, etc...) that they are happy to stay right here. And yes Spinning Wheel Yosemite is just a short drive to the Western entrance to Yosemite making it the perfect getaway just outside of the park.

What makes this house unique

The middle fork of the Tuolumne River runs through the property and holds a special place in our hearts. In the summer it provides a wonderful place to lounge and beat the summer heat. Not to mention the great fishing! And we are very secluded so no crowds or noise from the outside world

The homes have been individually crafted up to the last detail. Stones were hand selected and placed on many of the cabins and each one has a story. Much of the art within the cabins and on the property is made by one of the Barsotti's. Which helps to make Spinning Wheel Yosemite feel like a comfortable "home away from home" get away.

Lovely Property in Nature

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Chaw'se house with 11 people. We were producing a wedding at a larger resort about half an hour away and needed to stay near by. Unfortunately I had to work 14 hour days so I didn't get to take advantage of all the amenities on property, but a few others did. The house was perfect for 11 people, and can comfortably fit 12 people (with people sharing beds). Theres's a gravel road today e to the property, so it's a bit off the beaten path...but nothing you shouldn't be able the handle. The road is even enough. Parking is not RIGHT up to the property, there's a sturdy bridge you must go over to get to the house but there's ample lighting and the care taker on property m greeted us in her 4 wheeler and offered to bring our groceries over for us which was very kind! There are two dogs on property, a peacock and lots of wild life. Our house was very clean, linens were new, they had goals set up and ready on a new grill when we arrived which was awesome. You should definitely bring food to cook on property as the store is a bit of a drive. The pool is nice, wifi is VERY limited. This would be a GREAT spot for a family reunion, or a small wedding if you bought out the whole property. Would definitely come here again!

Beautiful property off the beaten path

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to show friends from Singapore Yosemite, but without the crowds and hassle of staying in the Valley. They actually picked this property out, and we were very pleased with their choice. Note this property consists of several rentals and is definately off the beaten path. You need to drive on a dirt road for a little bit, but directions are clear and accurate.

We stayed in the Trout House, which was very comfortable for four of us. I thought it was kind of cool to walk over a bridge to our residence, which also included a private wading pool in the river and hammock. We barbequed one night and also took advantage of the washer and dryer.

There also is a pool on the property, and was quite nice to come back to after a long, hot day hiking in Yosemite valley. It makes sense to bring groceries and cook, as there's no stores close by.

If you're looking for a beautiful location in the woods with extras like a pool and very friendly dogs, try this place!

Yikes! Not quite relaxing!

  • 2 of 5

One of the things I think every VRBO host should do is STAY in their rental one week a year and see how they like it! I hope other VRBO owners read this review. We stayed a few days here. Overall I think it was pleasant, but I would not return. Reservations went fine. Arrival was trickier. This is WAY OFF the beaten path, very rough gravel road, ok if you own a jeep! NOT a rental car! And NOT ten minutes to Yosemite entrance unless you are in Porsche Cayenne! The cabin is about fifty yards from parking, over a walking bridge...(soon to be a broken bridge from the sagging planks of wood), through woods on a dirt (and rock) path (thank God it was not raining or it would have been a muddy mess!). This is not fun dragging a 48.5 pound (airline confirmed!) suitcase! Nor 20 bags of groceries. (PS: bring coffee filters!) Cabin was nice enough, cute, in fact. There is no air will not be able to be in this cabin late afternoon in July! It was 85-95 degrees in cabin late afternoon. There are a few fans and two goofy water cooling (one leaking) evaporation coolers. Never seen anything like them! Now these appear to cost about $200 - $400 a piece online...what I don't understand is why they don't pick up a few end of season air conditioners at Home Depot for $88 a piece and make the cabin LIVABLE. I realize it gets into the 50's at night but I want to eat dinner in a cool house! The place seemed clean, until you shut the doors. I HOPE they close the bathroom door next time they clean! The BACK of the door is disgusting! They do supply linens...uh...but I would TAKE YOUR OWN! I took a "clean" washcloth out of the cabinet and it was disgusting. Maybe it was WASHED but it was stained! Yuk! Fridge contained a bunch of other peoples condiments and I know someone is thinking it would be appreciative to leave them...but I don't want to use someone else's food! Get rid of it! Same with the showers...I don't want to use someone else's soap! Showerheads a joke...c'mon, replace 'em...less than $5 at any store! Main floor bath has no curtains on window...crap, found out neighbors watched my daughter showering! Again, less than ten bucks to fix! Grill is a disaster...c'mon, buy a new one each year for less than a hundred bucks! Again, the place is cute, kinda a step up from camping. Their dog, Liko greeted us and plopped down in living room and slept like a baby. Lots of cute artwork. But, lots of places in Yosemite area, so look elsewhere...until the owners can

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, We just took over the property this year. And it's taken us a bit of time to build up enough capital to replace what needs replacing. We are currently in the process of buying all new linens and upgrading all the houses. -The bridge and path are mentioned in the paperwork and we will be making a point that people understand where the houses are on the property. In fact I do an inspection each week for anything that needs repair and the bridge only needed one board replaced which was done 2 days ago. -The road into our place is dirt but easily navigated. I drive a prius and have no problem driving down the road. -The park is 10 miles away so if you drive the speed limit you will get there in about 10 minutes. No need to be a race car driver. -The business has also had many guest stay in this house and no one has complained about the walk thus far. After all we are in national forrest and the reason one must walk to the house is because there is a river next to it. -We are also upgrading the BBQ's to more durable versions. -As far as the weather goes, it does get hot up here and we do what we can to make the houses comfortable. We are looking at ac units and better swamp coolers as well to deal with the heat as we speak. -As far as the bathroom goes we are upgrading the showers in both the houses across the river and I just went and checked and all the windows in all the bathrooms have curtains, so I'm not sure what happened there. Anyway thank you for your constructive criticism and please be assured we are making improvements all the time!

Beautiful & Serene Vacation Rental for ALL Kinds!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in August 2011 at Trout House was like being in a pure backcountry Yosemite campsite but with all necessary amenities. It has a walking bridge over the creek as the entrance, very cool feature!

After fantastic sunny days hiking and sightseeing in the famed Yosemite NP we relaxed on the several acres the property has to offer. If the bones were sore from the many outdoor activities we soaked in the beautiful outdoor hot tub located a short walk up the driveway near the entrance. The kids really enjoyed the pool which offered a resort like setting. The house more than lives up to its pictures, very comfortable and cozy. The owner has a great vision of setting up the perfect "camp-like" getaway with offering all the main essentials for making a fantastic stay.

The house is conveniently located a 10-15 min drive to Groveland where all your conveniences can be bought. All in all, Trout House is truly a wonderful timeless place to relax, recharge and get away from it all. Owners are very friendly and willing to accommodate any concerns you may have. Five stars for sure! Thanks

A hidden treasure property

  • 5 of 5

May 15, we four ladies had a great adventure as we found our way after dark in the rain accross the walking bridge(well lighted) up a tropical path to our warm cabin . The cabin was clean and comfortable. The full kitchen even had great coffee and condements. The sun came out the following day so we could enjoy the hugh deck and the spectacular view and sound of the river . This is an AWSOME location. This time in May the rushing Tuolumne river was 30 ft. across. We did visit Yosemite one day and the falls were at their best. But best of all is just being here to relax read look and listen, Our hosts and owner Deb and Peter were wonderful. Fourteen miles away is the nice little town of Groveland that has everything even the "Pine Mountian Country Club" restaurant also the oldest Saloon in California. We will return.

We stayed at this beautiful place between 8/29/10 thru 9/1/10. Our family reunion consisted of 7 members, including my 68 year old mother and my 6 year old nephew. Everyone had a great time! The ambience inside and outside was rejuvenating, serene and musical with the flowing river outside the Trout House.

We enjoyed the separation of bed room spaces and yet the mergence of all the spaces into one!

The colors, art work, accents & simplicity of the space, yet furnished to daily needs with superb cleanliness allowed us all to have the most meaningful family union; we cooked and grilled every evening and enjoyed simple meals.

Located close to 120, Hetch Hetchy exit and the Northern West Gate to Yosemite are within 10-12 miles. We enjoyed 3 days of Yosemite while we were there!

The resort is magical and healing; the owners Deb and Peter are beautiful people that added further joy to our experience.

We would recommend this place to everyone, even if you are not planning to go to Yosemite. It is a great place for families and friends to hang out! If we had more time, we would have taken advantage of the pool, spa, river, fishing, deck "lazing" & night sky "gazing". Hopefully there will be a "next time"! For the present, our memories of the "Trout House" have been ingrained forever!
