Gatsby in the ruff........: BELL HALLOW is a brown shingle 2 bedroom family cottage sitting on the banks of the San Lorenzo River in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Tastefully furnished with family antiques, oriental rugs, and lots of wonderful memories. A cozy deck hangs over the river bank...The perfect spot for a mint julep. BELL HALLOW offers Ping Pong, Horse shoes, other 'court' games, and swimming in a very private pool.

How Bell Hallow received its name. In 1906, after the Big Quake, parts of the valley was clear cut of Redwoods to rebuild San Francisco. Teams of Oxen would help guide the mammoth redwood trees down the San Lorenzo River flues to the lumber mills. On their harness there was a rack of 5 bells that gently rang with each step they took. The music of the bells reverberated on the banks while King Fishers sang. Yes there is a history and great stories.

About molly milligan

I am 4th generation Bell Hallow, 5th generation Californian. As an artist I can't imagine a better place to be. For me it is a great pivotal point for the San Francisco area all the way to Big Sur.....and look where I get to live. It just doesn't get any better. :-) What a ride!

molly milligan purchased this cottage in 1919

Why molly milligan chose Ben Lomond

This property has been in my family for over 90 years. 4 generations + the new 5th generation that is surfacing, (5 little ones so far) have enjoyed long summer evenings, and roaring fires on dark stormy nights. The home is loaded with wonderful memories and lots of laughter. They believe Fairies live here.

What makes this cottage unique

I have been told many times that this is a magical piece of land where healing of the soul takes place. It must be that if you are quiet, you hear the whispers of the majestic Redwoods, the gentle rush of the river, the songs of the birds, and sounds of nature.

A great place to kick back and relax

  • 5 of 5

Wow - what a marvelous, relaxing place. It was spotlessly clean too. We didn't want to leave.

There's this wonderful feeling of being away from everything, yet we were only a few minutes from stores, restaurants, etc. For people from out of the area, this would be a great base to take day trips from (if you can pry yourself away). Santa Cruz is just a few miles down the road, and you're just over the hill from Silicon Valley. San Francisco isn't all that far away either.

We will definitely be back!

Bell Hallow Wedding

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I got married at Bell Hallow back in August. It was incredible. We rented the cottage as a staging site for our prep work. The back dining court was used for both the ceremony and the reception, and the front garden was used for a cocktail hour during the transition. This place is magical- so beautiful and peaceful. My husband and I will always hold it closely, and we will most definitely be back to visit!

Perfect Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this beautiful cabin in the woods for a last minute weekend getaway. It was absolutely perfect. The cabin was a bit tight, but plenty of out door space, walking trails and things to do to keep you busy. You feel like you are miles away but everything you need is just a short drive away. The pool was a wonderful surprise as the temperature was perfect and a great treat for my young daughter. We also loved catching crawfish in the river and walking along all the beautiful, well kept paths. Such a treat and the owner was amazing. Can't wait to come stay again!

We came to stay at Bell Hallow for a wedding close by. We almost missed the wedding we were so relaxed and comfortable in the cabin! I enjoyed reading on the back deck, swimming in the pool and playing with the dogs. The cabin had everything we needed and I can't wait to come back!
