This was the perfect spot for our family. Plenty of room in the house and the outdoors was wonderful. We all enjoyed the pool, fished from the dock and were able to bring our boat and have it available at all times.

Great place to stay

Had a great stay. The owner and manager both really nice and very helpful. Like the idea of the cut in to keep your boat. Caught plenty of fish right off the dock. The place was super clean when we arrived. I would stay here again.

Great trip!!

Awesome week at this house. The outdoor area was great and we loved just sitting out back and enjoying the view, a manatee came by as well as some dolphins . We caught a tarpon, ladyfish and some snapper just fishing off the dock. Safe place to dock the boat. Everything was clean inside and the kitchen was well equipped . The property manager was great and quick to respond to anything we needed . We look forward to our next stay!

Great house, great location

Me and my 2 sons just returned from our fabulous vacation and are already planning next years vacation. The house was great, fully equipped and very comfortable. The house is located on a quiet street but close to grocery stores and Kmart as well as Sombrero beach. My boys loved the pool and fished every day. There is a separate freezer to keep bait and a cleaning station on the sea wall. It was nice to be able to enjoy eating the fish we caught that day while watching the sunset from the house, doesn't get much better than that! The owner was extremely helpful. We would definitely recommend staying at Villa Sombrero.

Perfect for a large group and great for boaters!

The property was as expected as pictured. The pool and backyard were perfect. Jesus was awesome to work with. He was super responsive and nice. The location was great if you have a boat. The dock was great and was super safe for the boat. No nails or anything that could damage it. Caught and released a shark and some fish off the doc. Saw a manatee. It was all awesome. Very convenient to Publix. This was our 3rd trip to Marathon and this was by far the best location. We will def stay here again.

Family trip to the Florida keys

We had a great time, the house was as expected and as described by other reviewers. We were a little surprised that it was 2 separate living quarters with no joint access but this did not inhibit our stay or enjoyment. Jesus was super responsive the few times we found it necessary to reach out. For future improvements and to get a 5 star rating the mattresses and pillows need to be refreshed and possibly the ceiling tiles in the downstairs portion of the house ( stained from previous leaks). Would definitely rent again if the bedding were improved.

Yearly fishing Vacation

For the last 3 years my whole family has gone down in late May and early June . The three daughters loves the pool and the fact that its less that 1 hour to Key West . All us guys love the fact that the boat is right there and that were gone and fishing in less that 20 mims. We all fish right off the sea wall at night and every year thats one of our best times together. Grilling out swimming and fishing altogether right there at the house. You will find everything you need right there on Marathon Key. We are looking forward to this year (2009) vacation at the house.

Last Renter of the Year

The property was in a terrific location and had lots of space. Unfortunately, the house was listed for sale while we were there and it was run down. There were so many broken items in the house and the owner did not care because it was being sold. It was used hard and not kept up. The property manager was great to deal with though! I hope whoever buys it updates it for the new renters.

In response to our customers issues while he was at the Villa we dispatched our handyman to resolve several minor issues as a result of an extremely busy rental season. I am sure this guest as well as our many other guests had a great time at the Villa, however, it was extremely unfortunate numerous issues hit at once thus the justified comments from our renter. We are currently updating and repairing the things that come after a busy rental summer season. The property is on the market primarily as a extremely successful vacation rental business featuring a great location, scenic views, comfortable accommodations at a fair value. Stay tuned for the cool upgrades. Our improvement list is ongoing and Villa Sombrero is committed to assuring our guests to a great vacation rental experience.

Annual keys trip in a different home rental

Well I want to thank you for allowing us to stay in your home on our family vacation. However, I feel your house was not entirely worth the money we paid. We as a family were not happy as a whole. I am not one to complain. I am not one to need a luxurious home in the keys either. What I do need is my family to feel secure and happy when we go away. The safety of this place was compromised. None of the doors locked in the back yard, but its on the market for $1.5 million. Marathon has a lot of boat traffic and I don't trust strangers. Many lawn chairs and chase lounges were broken. Mismatch furniture is no big deal, but a chair with no back has no value to someone to sit in. The kitchen faucet was broke. Yes water came out, but it was not in full operation. I can go on with a list, but I don't feel like just breaking the home down. My issues is safety. I did not feel secure nor did my family, as we had a newborn on our stay. We checked in and soon decided to go to dinner only to realize none of the back doors locked. I did call the homeowner multiple times and he assured me the issue would be resolved, which it did the next day. The maintenance and cleaning crew were outstanding. They were extremely friendly and worked with what the home actually was... appearing as a mobile home on top of a slab. Lastly, the home did have a water view and a pool, but again the value was not in your rental.

"Villa Sombrero" is an exceptional vacation rental and is very popular destination for many families' unfortunately it is not a 5 star property but I guarantee it will be exceptionally clean, comfortable and great location to enjoy all the benefits of the beautiful Florida Keys. Please find my comments to a very interesting, complimentary an unwarranted review. Lets start with the security issue: Yes, the sliding door did not lock and the mechanism needed replacement. It did take a day to purchase the latch and replace. I advised the guest to place a broom handle between the two doors and he did. I can't help the fact that the summer is the busy time of the year and there are a lot of people traveling on Sisters Creek going to the ocean to enjoy the beautiful waters. I guess they are strangers but I look at them as wonderful people enjoying their time on the water and not criminals looking for houses to break in. The keys are one of the safest areas in Florida. The lawn furniture did have a chair with no back and I always advise Fred, my handyman to discard things that are broken. Shame on you Fred. I do take exception with the other issues. The property is not on the market for $1.5Million, The kitchen faucet works fine but is missing a decorative cover and the second floor is not a mobile home, it is a framed structure on steel beams, sold wood floor system, steel siding, wood trusses tied in with hurricane clips with a new galvanized metal roof and it has survived many hurricanes. "Villa Sombrero" is an exceptional vacation rental and is very popular destination for many families' unfortunately it is not a 5 star property but I guarantee it will be exceptionally clean, comfortable and great location to enjoy all the benefits of the beautiful Florida Keys.

Fun in Marathon

Jesus was great to work with, he personalized our stay and made us feel very welcome. He was quick to reply to our questions and the property was perfect for our group. It has 2 separate living quarters, the upstairs and downstairs which are not connected except for the outside stairway. It worked great for us to have 2 couples upstairs and 2 downstairs. We spent most of our time outside in the pool overlooking the water and we enjoyed seeing dolphins, iguanas, and all of the boats come by.

Incredible property that was great for our honeymoon!

We will definitely be back to Villa Sombrero! The location can't be beat - right by Publix & close to plenty of restaurants while still feeling secluded & tucked away in a quiet cove. The views from the backyard are also amazing. We wound up grilling in the outdoor kitchen more than we expected just so we could watch the beautiful sunsets in Boot Key Harbor. The kitchens were a little bare (didn't realize there were no oven mitts until I had something in the oven), but you can get any supplies you may need at nearby Publix, so this wasn't a big deal for us.

Great Location

This property is a boaters dream. We had 4 boats in our group, 23’ to 42’. The property had plenty of parking for all four trailers and tow vehicles and dockage for all four. The house was adequately supplied for two separate households for sleeping and two separate kitchens. The heated pool was awesome!

Perfect for the family with teenagers

This is a fantastic property because of the outdoor amenities such as the private pool, tennis courts, dock/slip and cool outdoor bar/grill with speakers. We had our rented boat in the slip and loved proximity to the bay. Our 4 kids are 18 to 23 years old and each had a friend with them. The two living areas allowed the kids to have some space alone and separate areas to chill or hand out separately. This is not a fancy pants place - its more like a lived-in cottage. If you want high end finishes, you should probably look for another more expensive property. We loved the location and the privacy with plenty of parking, close to beach, golf course, and stores. The only suggestion I have for the owner is to upgrade the bedding ...especially the pillows. But otherwise we would definitely rent here again.

So much potential!

We selected this property because of the great location, deep water boating access and split accommodations; and shared it with my sister in-law and her kids, who happily stayed upstairs. Our family of 5 stayed downstairs. This property has excellent outdoor amenities, but the interior, especially downstairs still needs improvements and upgrades. Apparently we arrived right after fumigation, so we were greeted by some dead critters and the downstairs floor was not clean. These were all upon arrival, so I’m guessing housekeeping was not there that day. We did report this and the dirty floors to the owner and he responded immediately. We stay in many rentals but this one was surprisingly casual. We are used to finding a binder with check in instructions, trash day and recycling information, and check out instructions. We only received a text with entry information and trash day, no recycling (so we missed that). Also no other information was available about amenities such as kayaks, tennis, pool heating or the jacuzzi mentioned in description - we did not see one. Overall I give the exterior a 5/5 and the interior a 2/5.

Great location in middle keys

Good property for a large family. Nice layout with 2 bedrooms upstairs and three down allowed for separation for the early risers and night owls.

Great house for a family reunion!

We were so happy to be all together in this fantastic house in a fantastic location. We saw a manatee near the dock the very first day- we loved looking for manatees and fish from the dock everyday. We used the upstairs for those of us that wanted a little quiet, but the majority of the time we were downstairs cooking, eating, swimming or playing tennis. We used the pool everyday for most of the day - warm and clean. We had everything we needed to make meals for everyone with 2 kitchens (although we mostly used the downstairs to cook and eat). The kitchen was big enough for 3 women to work at the same at the same time. We were happy for the dishwasher with so many people (8 adults and 2 kids). My brother, who lives in Florida, brought his fishing boat and gave boat rides and fishing trips. Views on the water were beautiful and the property so private. We had friends staying at a nearby hotel and they had quite a bit of wind and we did not. We did a day trip to Key West (about an hour away)and had a great lunch at a resort on Islamarada. Gary and the owner were very prompt in responding to any questions, needs or concerns that we had. Overall, it was perfect for 3 generations of our family to celebrate my Mom's 95th birthday- we would definitely stay there again!

Great family vacation spot

Villa Sombrero is the perfect vacation home. Beautiful grounds, large heated pool, comfortable accommodations.

A Great Place for Families

We had 6 adults and 6 kids stay at this home for spring break and the set up was perfect! Everyone had privacy of a room and yet we were close enough to cook and eat together without any problems. The lower level has a great open floor plan, easy in and out to the pool. The pool was AWESOME! Perfect temperature for the mom's to even slide into when they needed a break from the sun. When the kids weren't in the pool, they were catching fish off the dock or playing tennis. We had manatee float up to the seawall daily and the kids loved it! (We all did!) Hammock was used daily, loungers around the pool were good, patio area, semi-beach and dock were all great! Downstairs kitchen had everything we needed! Would definitely go back here and recommend it for families!!

Great place!

This place is great! We would definitely consider staying there again! Some feedback and improvement ideas. We absolutely loved heated swimming pool. Fishing off the dock was awesome. We even saw some manatees! We enjoyed playing tennis, but there could be light so we could play after sunset. On the first floor there is no dishwasher in the kitchen. There is no big dining table either. These two things were inconvenient for us since we liked to eat together with the whole family. The existing glass round table is unbound and dangerous with the kids.

2/10 Horrible

Horrible experience with agent junky rental.

So not worth the money. The pictures on this website do not match up with what the house looks like. If I had to guess I would say they are at least 10 to 15 years old and so is the furniture in the house and most of it is broken in some way or another. So many more places out there that are so much more nicer than this. Broken furniture, wore out broken down beds, two spoons in the kitchen, nasty stains all over the ceiling, dirty nasty duct tape hanging off the doors, broken Furniture outside. I rented a property not just a nice pool. Told by the rental agent, to get over the negative and find the positive, basically shut my mouth. Asked if we could get out of a contract because the place was so run down, after staying just one night and was told too bad. There was mold in the shower outside where you're told you have to take a shower before you get in the pool, it was just gross. I must say I've never been treated more poorly in all of my travels. Was told to go to the upstairs of the unit but it smelled horrible. And all we were told was too bad they said they would give us another week but we don't want to stay there because it's so nasty we just wanted some of our money back and they just kept saying no. These are not fair business people.

"Villa Sombrero" is a great vacation rental property as evidenced by the many positive reviews. I am sorry this renter had these unwarranted issues, false accusations and exaggerated claims. We did address the lumpy bed and stains caused by condensation and have recently constructed a 5th bedroom, installed a new central AC with more great amenities on the way to enhance your vacation in the most beautiful setting in the Florida Keys.

Across Sisters Creek there is a natural preserve and no neighbors. It is private, exclusive and a great destinantion.
