Perfect little cabin
We loved staying here - the property was exceptionally clean and manicured. The pond was perfect for swimming and fishing. We were allowed to bring our dogs. The cabin was stocked with many things. There were lots of puzzles and books to read. The bed was very comfortable. The cabin is 15 minutes from a grocery store if you forget something. All in all, it was pretty amazing and we will definitely be back!
This cabin is rated "10 stars" out of 5!
This was our third visit to this cabin. We usually stay at a couple of cabins every year. But we always name this one "our favorite", because it truly is! I can't imagine a place more peaceful, beautiful and relaxing. Thank you, John and Mary, you have created an amazing little private paradise!
Relaxing vacation with little kids
We enjoyed our 3rd anniversary, a birthday and Father’s Day with our family of 4. We made campfires each night and floated on the lake, enjoyed meals on the porch and walking around the area.
My Home Away From Home!
This was our second stay at Mary and John's perfect paradise. It's the only place I know that you can just get in the car with your fishing pole, some food, and a few articles of clothing and go! This picturesque place isn't just beautiful, it truly has everything you need for a fun, relaxing and very enjoyable vacation. ( You will not need a vacation after your vacation). The kitchen is so well stocked a chef would be proud. There are puzzles and games for rainy days or for relaxing in the evenings. Kids and adults alike will love this place as there is so much to see and do. You will enjoy grilling on the barbeque which is on a very spacious deck with plenty of seating. The fishing is AWESOME and the blue water is breathtaking. There are life jackets, a little raft and a very romantic lighted jacuzzi. The bed is very comfortable with crisp and clean linens. There is a balcony upstairs that overlooks that beautiful blue pond. There are a lot of extras in the bathroom like high end toiletries and my favorite, the washer and dryer. This place was spotlessly clean and I always appreciate all the extras Mary and John go to, to make this a safe and clean place to come to. Mary also was so kind to answer quickly and graciously helped us extend our vacation. We also love how isolated it is and tucked away in the trees. You will love the well manicured yard. Also enjoy the osprey doing battle over the pond, deer, and lots of little rabbit friends. It's everything you want in a vacation!! It's my home away from home! I came home so refreshed and we are enjoying all our pictures and memories from this trip. Thank you very much Mary and John for a most memorable 2nd vacation. Bless you for sharing your piece of paradise with us. See you next year!
A quaint cabin with a peaceful and relaxing vibe. We had a great time!
Glad you had a good time. It looked like you even got a swim in during a short break in the rain. Hopefully the weather will be better when you come back in a couple weeks.
Many of our guests never leave the cabin and treat it as a true 'destination vacation.' However, there are a multitude of things to do in Skagit Valley. We are about a 10 minute drive to the Centennial Trail which offers miles of relatively flat bike trails. In about 40 minutes you can be at the ferry dock in Anacortes and on your way to one of the San Juan Islands for the day. If you're looking for shopping opportunities, the outlet malls in Burlington are less than 10 minutes away. We are also very close to Skagit Valley Community College and have had many parents stay at the cabin to be near their children who attend the college. The tulip fields in April are just a short ride to the other side of the freeway and right beyond them is the quaint town of LaConner with lots of shops and restaurants. Or...you can just stay put and enjoy the serenity of the pond and quiet, private setting here on our property!
John or Mary Davis
About John or Mary Davis
John and Mary have retired from 30+ years of teaching in Cordova, Alaska. We ran one of the first B&B's there, the Oystercatcher Bed and Breakfast. John grew up in Skagit Valley and was excited when his niece decided to sell this property. We have many relatives within a one mile radius, so we are surrounded by good people in this very special neighborhood.
John or Mary Davis purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why John or Mary Davis chose Big Lake
Buying this vacation rental was the perfect transition for us in our 'retirement.' We love the beauty and accessibility this property offers us and our guests. Not only do we think the property is special, Vrbo selected a picture of our cabin for their international business card!
What makes this Cabin unique
This property is very unique. Not only is our cabin much more secluded than most vacation rentals, you have your own private pond all to yourselves during your stay. We don't even use the pond when we have guests! Summer or winter this area has so much to offer. The summer is filled with fun things to do including the San Juan Islands, tulip fields 20 minutes away, or Big Lake which is less than 5 minutes away. The North Cascade pass has many trails to hike and much much more. In the winter, visitors come from all over to see the eagles. There is steelhead fishing on the Skagit river or enjoy trout fishing in our private pond off the deck. Mt Baker ski area is just an hour and 15 minutes door to door or Stevens pass ski area is about an hour and 45 minutes. If you're here to shop, the Outlet malls in Burlington are about 15 minutes away.
