Michigan? Really??

Michigan! Really!!

Look no further than the south shore of magnificent Lake Superior for this charming family compound where you can enjoy quiet nights and northern lights. Done in the Dutch Colonial style, the main lodge, three cottages and carriage house comfortably accommodate 30-34 guests, making it an ideal location for family gatherings, celebrations and reunions. Relax with a modern kitchen, wood stoves and welcoming furnishings, then wander the 10 acre property which includes over 1200 feet of frontage on Lake Superior's beautiful Sunrise Bay with your own private beach and boat launch.

The spacious grounds of the property allow for both a large communal space for big family dinners and lawn games -- as well as the privacy of retreating to separate cottages.

You are only minutes away from the famed Pictured Rocks National Seashore, a favorite destination for hikers, kayakers and photographers. Nearby Grand Island, part of the Hiawatha National Forest, offers miles of breathtaking colored sandstone cliffs, sea caves and trails that surprise and delight with dramatic views of the lake. Also minutes away is scenic and sheltered Munising Bay with docking facilities. Known as a favorite destination dive site, Munising Bay is renowned for its crystalline waters that allow divers unmatched opportunities to explore over 15 shipwrecks. Golfers have a number of courses to choose from, including the prestigious Greywalls in nearby Marquette, Sweetgrass in Escanaba and a premium 18-hole course right in Munising.

Looking for less rugged activities? Try croquet on the front lawn, curl up with a favorite book by the fire, or simply stroll the grounds. Whatever you want in a vacation, let Lake Superior, jewel of the Great Lakes, treat you to a vacation spot you’ll always remember.

Michigan! Really!!

About Julie and Bob Wisniewski-managers

My wife, Denise, and I have been vacationing here for the last 20 years. In that time we have enjoyed many family reunions and parties with our large extended family.

Julie and Bob Wisniewski-managers purchased this lodge in 1991

Why Julie and Bob Wisniewski-managers chose Upper Peninsula

We chose to buy this property because of our large family and the many possibilities for boating , golfing, hiking, and other recreational activities this area offers.

What makes this lodge unique

We enjoy being on a large bay where the cottages are not close together and the privacy offered is better than that available in most other locations. Also, there is relatively light boat traffic on the water which means we can enjoy serenity instead of many boats and jet skis creating a noisy environment.

Extraordinary Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our large family (my siblings and their families) was so fortunate to return here for a second year and enjoy this beautiful property on Lake Superior. Plenty of space for all of us with great attention to the details that make this a luxurious home away from home. We enjoyed family dinners in the main house(we all gathered and prepared a spaghetti dinner together) celebrated my nephew's engagement, enjoyed time on the beach and endless hours of fun on the lawn. Julie and Bob do am amazing job keeping the homes and grounds immaculate and making guests feel so welcome. A lovely place to get away and truly relax. Thank you again for a perfect week!

UP trip exceeded expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We sadly returned home, from an AMAZING stay here. This property was perfect for our large (23 folks) family! Each 'family' was able to spread out in their own house at night, but we all met up at the main house for meals and to hang out. The houses were all SO clean, amazingly maintained, and the kitchen set-up was perfect. Julie and Bob were so helpful. The kids loved all the grassy areas to play and ride bikes, the beach was a huge hit (and the water was comfortable for swimming!), and there were plenty of day-trip activities to do nearby. We look forward to returning!

Fantastic in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion with 28 people. We fit well in the four different houses. All places were well stocked with everything you'd need, including games and toilet paper! The weather was great 70-85, cool at night. Flies weren't bad at all, mosquitoes were vicious but only were bad in the evening--pack some deet! We golfed, played tennis, biked on Grand Island, caught some huge trout on a charter boat, hiked all over the place, and always returned to the main lodge to eat dinner together! Perfect!

A wonderful family vacation at Sunrise Bay.

  • 5 of 5

My family just enjoyed an amazing vacation here. The homes and grounds are beautiful, spacious and impeccably maintained. With 34 family members(children and adults) we were able to relax and enjoy the beauty of Lake Superior, gather on the lawn and beach and spend a wonderful week. The manager Julie and her husband Bob were very gracious and welcoming and easily helped us settle in and enjoy the many amenities of the compound and area attractions. They were readily available to make sure our every need was met. The main house offered more than ample space for our entire family to gather for meals and games and relaxation. Highly recommend Sunrise Bay for the perfect family vacation! Thank you to Julie and Bob!

We had our family reunion with 15 people at this magical location and loved everything about it. There was way more room than we needed (only used 3 of the 4 houses) and loved the space to spread out. The beach was great for the kids and the nearby sauna made the cold water easy to tolerate. The facilities were fantastic with a huge, well-stocked kitchen, a nice wood-burning stove, and large dining area where we could all eat together. Julie was very easy to work with and was always available if we needed anything. Highly recommend this wonderful, hidden getaway!!

Just as amazing the second time! My six brothers and sisters, our families, mom and dad, just spend ANOTHER amazing week at the lodge on Reindeer Run. Even better the second time - as we knew what to expect and enjoyed looking forward to our stay even more this year than the last. But just when we thought the property could not be improved upon – the main house, Shamrock, went through recent ‘upgrades’ and now includes an expanded kitchen (2 sinks/2 islands/2 ovens/expanded dining area) which made large group meal prep, dining and clean up even more effortless! Also new this trip was the wood burning Sauna, another unexpected luxury we didn’t know we couldn’t live without – perfect after a swim in the lake and winding down at the end of the day. As with our last stay, the houses were immaculate and the attention to detail impressive – right down to the ironed sheets and Lands’ End totes (again, anticipating every need of the guests!) I can’t stress enough (and am sure my family would agree) how perfect this location is for large family gatherings. The individual space the cottages provide for each family only makes the time spent as a large group in the main house all that more enjoyable – and when you need some downtime to recharge – there’s always a quiet place to retreat to for that relaxing afternoon nap. I can only imagine it could have a similar effect as a location for a corporate retreat or off-site event. My one regret - that as the only remaining ‘single’ member of my family – I wasn’t able to try out one of the other cottages this time (Kinsale, Leprechaun or Limerick) – but there’s always next time!
