Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 4-8)
Welcome to Hay Creek Cabin, a beautiful, comfy, year-round cabin located on the northeast side of the world-famous Chippewa Flowage, a sprawling, 15,000-acre lake with more than 140 islands (Wisconsin’s third largest inland lake).
This three-bedroom, three-bath cabin (or cottage as we say in Wisconsin) is located on a secluded, wooded, two-acre lakeshore lot facing west, offering spectacular views of the setting sun and water from the cabin’s deck or dock. The cabin is located on Hay Creek, a slow, winding river that is part of the Chippewa Flowage, which is known as the home to the current world-record musky caught by Louis Spray many years ago (for those in the know, the Big Chip also is known for its exceptional walleye, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and crappie fishing, too). The lake offers numerous campsites and is surrounded by the Chequamegan National Forest, making it feel like you're up in Canada (very few houses on the lake). Hay Creek Cabin is just minutes to miles and miles of groomed snowmobile trails, cross- country ski trails (including the world famous Birkebeiner Trail), mountain biking trails (single track and the Birkie Trail), and deer, bear, wild turkey and ruffed grouse hunting.
Hay Creek is a comfortable, 2,500-square foot lake home where you can hang with the guys after a great day of fishing, hunting or mountain biking; enjoy a long Women's Weekend retreat with your girlfriends; or get cozy with your sweetheart after a day on one of the many x-country skiing trails.
Hay Creek Cabin features a fully equipped gourmet kitchen (Wolf gas range/oven, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Dacor microwave), lower level wet bar/microwave, washer and dryer, AC, stereo system (with CD collection), TV/DVD player (with movie collection), telephone (free long distance), two gas fireplaces (upstairs/downstairs), two charcoal grills (Weber and Green Egg), firepit and free Wi-Fi high-speed internet service. The cabin offers a contemporary yet cozy feel with knotty pine walls and cabin-style furniture and decorations.
Our guests may use, free-of-charge, a 17-foot Old Town Penobscot canoe, four kayaks, and adult and kids mountain bikes. Our 30-foot long boat dock is the perfect spot to park your boat for the weekend (electricity at the dock), and it is only 300-yards away from the Hay Creek boat landing.
Nearby Attractions: Hay Creek Cabin is located near several northwoods restaurants, such as the Original Famous Dave's, the Robin's Nest (great for breakfast), the Chippewa Inn and Dunrovin Lodge. It’s also within minutes of two bait and tackle shops, and nearby marinas (to rent a boat, pontoon or jet ski for the weekend). For golfers, there's the nearby Big Fish Golf Club (public access), and for those who like to challenge themselves at the slots and blackjack tables, the LCO Casino is just 10 minutes away. The National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and Lumberjack Village located in Hayward, offer hours of fun for the entire family during the summer months.
Shopping: For those who love to shop, downtown Hayward offers numerous clothing, decorating and gift shops, including Tremblay’s candy shop. About 15 minutes north of Hayward is Cable, a quaint town known for its restaurants, gift shops and arts community.

Upstairs master bedroom (queen bed), upstairs guest room (two twin beds), upstairs living room (pull-out double sofa bed), downstairs guest room (queen bed), two fold-out cots, and a large couch could located downstairs.

About Stephen Dupont
Hay Creek Cabin is owned by Stephen and Rebekah Dupont. We are residents of the Twin Cities who enjoy all things outdoors, including fishing, boating, hiking, biking, campfires, and simply relaxing while enjoying a beautiful view of the lake.
Stephen Dupont purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Stephen Dupont chose Hunter
We love the Hayward area. We were attracted to it for all of the things you can do outdoors in this area -- the world-class fishing, world-class cross-country skiing, downhill skiing in nearby northeastern Wisconsin and northern Michigan, and incredible mountain biking trails and road biking. We purchased Hay Creek Cabin specifically because it is surrounded by national forest (very little development). It feels like you're in Canada when you're fishing or canoeing on the Chippewa Flowage. We have friends who also enjoy the area for its extensive snowmobile trails and incredible hunting opportunities.
What makes this Cabin unique
Hay Creek Cabin is a wonderful place to relax and get away from the daily stresses from life. Many of our visitors simply enjoy hanging out on the cabin deck, reading a novel, and taking in the view of Hay Creek or allowing the lake to melt away their stress while sitting on the dock. While we do not offer a sandy beach, there are many places on the Chippewa Flowage where you can find a beach or an entire island all to your own (90% of the Chippewa Flowage has not been developed). There are also public beaches within a 10-15 minute drive of Hay Creek Cabin. Boat rental is available at nearby Treeland Resort (they'll deliver the boat/pontoon to Hay Creek Cabin's dock).

Perfect place to focus and unwind
I came here for one week to work uninterrupted on a project, while being surrounded by beautiful nature. I finished 70 small drawings in one week, and every single day I saw bald eagles circling over the lake. I had a dinner party for some artist friends over the weekend who where blown away by the beauty of the setting. It was really easy to host a dinner party in their large kitchen area with an Island, much nicer than my tiny kitchen at home in the city. I plan to come back every year. The beauty of the lake and the eagles made it as relaxing as a vacation, even though I was working most of the time. I would recommend this cabin HIGHLY!!!!!!for artists or writers, or anyone looking for a peaceful place in the beauty of nature. I love it there.
I loved my time at this Hay Creek Cabin. We enjoyed watching a great blue heron that was fishing from the dock. Also from the dock we saw loon families and loons taking flight. We saw and heard pileated woodpeckers calling to each other and we saw bald eagles diving for fish..
I loved that, for my husband, who can't do steps, there's complete handicapped access to the fully equipped first floor: bedroom, bath, kitchenette, no steps at all, and easy downhill walk to the dock, also with no steps. Also, for the couch potatoes like us, we enjoyed the great variety in the CD, DVD and book collections. I plan to come back every year going forward.
I just spent a wonderful, long autumn weekend at Hay Creek Cabin. Wow! The colors and wildlife were amazing. I saw a red fox as I was unpacking my car, and I just knew it was going to be an amazing weekend. I was able to spend some time with friends who were staying at a nearby cabin, and I was able to spend some time alone, walking among the brilliant colors and invigorating smells of fall. Beautiful! Thanks for a wonderful time!
Good Labor Day
What I liked was sitting on the dock catching walleyes, --well, we got one walleye,-- while the kids got sunnies and crappies with great excitement, --that, and watching the sunset having dinner and drinks at the dockside picnic table. Well, I live in New Jersey, and when I come back to Wisconsin, where I grew up spending summers ‘at the lake’ --finding a spot like this, with all its civilized amenities and all the beauty of the north woods is like heaven. I also like that the first floor can be used as a completely separate unit from the second floor, it has a wet bar and mini-refrigerator, gas fire place, separate secluded bedroom and full family room stocked with books, lake view, etc.—very peaceful, for those, like me, who are older and like a lot of quiet time. All the noisy card games, dinner prep, and coming and going, went on above my head, so to speak, on the upper floor. I spent Labor Day weekend there with my family and hope to return for many years come.
How many times have you come home from vacation and thought: "Well, that was okay, but I wish the furniture was more comfortable, and we had more privacy. Oh, and that the kitchen were better stocked..." among a dozen other wishes and what-ifs? If you stay at Hay Creek Cabin, there are no regrets, no unfulfilled wishes, and the only downside is wanting to stay longer. This place fits every personality; every activity; every vacation dream. Clean to a fault, spacious yet cozy, quiet and peaceful. An absolute perfect 10.
Hay Creek Cabin Outing
My two Brother-in Laws and I selected Hay Creek cabin as the destination for our annual spring fishing outing. The Hay Creek cabin exceeded our expectation in every aspect. The cabin is well maintained with all of the ammenities. The gourmet kitchen is awesome. Hay Creek cabin provided a very private and relaxig atmosphere. The fishing was excellent too. The area also provides many other activites including hiking, sightseeing, and many available restaurants. The cabin, grounds, parking, dock, and easy access to activities were all top notch. I would highly recommend a stay at this cabin.
