Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this apartment for 7 weeks while in DC on business and it was terrific. The apartment is clean, comfortable and exactly as it looks in the photos. It has everything you need to have an easy and relaxed stay and Kristina is friendly and extremely helpful, even to the point of recommending a hairdresser! As others have said, it's a wonderful location, close to the Metro and on 3 metro lines which means waiting for trains to the city is minimal. it's also an easy walk to Union Station and a comfortable walk to supermarkets not to mention being only a couple of blocks away from Eastern Market. Given it's central location, if you're out at night it's only a short cab ride home from the city centre. I felt very safe here and did a lot of great walking to the Mall and beyond and really enjoyed what a beautiful area it is. I would highly recommend this apartment and will be back when I return to DC.

Perfect for extended business stay in DC

  • 5 of 5

The Basement apartment on 8th Street is the ideal base for anyone looking to experience the best of DC for work or pleasure. It is exactly as it appears in the pictures - cosy and comfortable with great features and everything you could need including wifi, digital tv, a well set up kitchen, bathroom with good storage as well as a high quality inflatable mattress for extra guests and even a pack n play for visiting babies/toddlers.

The location couldn't be better - visitors will benefit from being a 20 minute walk away from Union Station or 10 mins from Eastern market metro. There are great bus links from the various stops around the immediate vicinity. The neighbourhood couldn't be better - safe and beautiful with fantastic cafes, restaurants and shops and the fantastic atmosphere of Barracks Row. Eastern Market itself is great for fresh produce and the weekend flea market is a delight. On top of this, you're only minutes on foot away from the Supreme Court, Library of Congress and Capitol Building, and, from there, the mall and museums.

Kristina is a friendly, efficient and attentive host who has thought of everything -there are guidebooks and maps to borrow, great laundry facilities and even an umbrella to borrow!

I highly recommend the apartment as a base for seeing the city and, from the perspective of a lone female traveller on business, as a safe and comfortable home from home.

First Family Visit to our Nation's Capital

  • 5 of 5

We enjoy traveling and immersing ourselves in our host cities. We look for location and ease of access/transportation to where we'd like to explore. It was with great fortune that we found this gem of a rental near the Eastern Market neighborhood just a few blocks walk to the Capitol. We would walk to the corner every morning and salute Lady Freedom atop the dome and walk down East Capitol street toward her passing the Library of Congress and Supreme Court on the way. Safe streets, beautiful neighborhood architecture and tree lined streets just underscored our correct choice to stay on 8th St NE. The pictures provided for the rental advertised the location and unit perfectly. The place was warm, secure and super cozy. Our first night we walked to the Eastern Market and picked up fresh vegetables, cured meats, cheese, and fresh made pasta and made dinner in the aptly supplied. Along the walk back we stopped in to a great little liquor store that rivals BevMo on selection of wine, beer and spirits. There are tons of restaurants nearby Ted's Bulletin and other bars. Baracks Row is close as well. Arriving at the location is easy and short on the 395 from Reagan Airport. A couch and blow-up mattress provide accomodations in the living room in addition to the full size bed in the living room. The bathroom is also well stocked with towels and few incidentals but bring your own. Moderately timed showers will ensure you don't run out of hot water, although the shower never actually got cold. We loved that we had an easy to use washer and dryer and used it once. We drink coffee daily so it was extra nice to have filters and sugar stocked in the kitchen cupboards. There are also plates, utensils, and a few spices. The owner is extremely responsive, fair and thoughtful. We so appreciated staying there and would highly recommend it to others.

San Diego renters

My husband, 14 yo grandson and I stayed for 8 days in this wonderful apt. It was light, clean, and just as advertised. Having the apt. was so much better than a hotel! AC units in each of the rooms made our stay during Washington's major heat wave very comfortable. It was great to have the kitchen available for breakfasts and leftover storage. Grocery stores were not too prevalent but, for our purposes, we were able to buy all our food staples at the nearby CVS store (next to the Metro). The laundry facilities were great and we could have (should have) travelled with at least 1 fewer suitcase! Eastern Market Metro was an easy 7 min walk, you can view the Capitol Bldg down the nearest cross street. We would have been more than able to walk to the Capitol and the Capitol Mall every day had the heat not been so intense. We did walk there one evening and it probably took us 15-20 minutes through very delightful neighborhoods to arrive at the Capitol steps. Various restaurants are very near, parks, and just the ambiance of the older rowhouse neighborhoods was absolutely great. Towards the end of our 8 day stay I discovered that the walk to Union Station, the metro stop there, the US Postal Museum (I recommend it) and many restaurants took only 20 minutes too. Very central location, fine for families. Recommend this apartment wholeheartedly and would stay again. Everything was perfect. With the Metro so close we were able to get to National Baseball Park, Arlington, & the dock for Potomac cruises very conveniently and we felt safe walking in our apt's neighborhoods regardless of our return time. I enjoyed seeing the DC residents on their way to work each morning and see the lifestyle of East Coast living. We felt a part of that in our basement apartment. Absolutely recommend to families with 2 or less children or for couples.

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful 2 weeks in DC. One of the main reasons was the wonderful apartment we stayed in. It was perfect for us and made a peaceful, quiet and cool oasis after a hot day in DC. Kristina answered all of our questions before the trip and was very helpful while we were there. The location was great, a five minute walk to the metro, and close to the Eastern Market. If I get to visit DC again, with or without the family I would love to stay there again.

Charming D.C. rowhouse

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, well appointed apartment . Great for small family or business people. Plenty of resturants and cafes plus great neighborhood to just walk and relax in after a long day of sightseeing . Everything you need for your stay has been stocked for you by Kristina . We walked everywhere we went . This will be my first choice on my next trip to D.C. which my granddaughter informs me will be in the not so distant future .
