Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)
Nestled in the woods looking up at Camels Hump is our cozy little cabin. A perfect getaway spot with unsurpassed views of the mountain. Camels Hump is Vermont's highest peak that is not developed by a ski area. It's all wilderness.
Feels like you’re a million miles away but it’s only a 15 minute drive from town and 4 major ski areas, Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River and Bolton Valley are about 1/2 half hour away.
Camels Hump trail head is right down the road for access to awesome hiking, backcountry and XC skiing. Very rustic but with all the amenities.
It’s really not so little - about 1800 sq ft. with 2 bedrooms, large living room with massive fieldstone fireplace, spacious kitchen and well appointed bath and a toasty woodstove.
The upstairs master bedroom is huge with a king bed and large sitting area and frenchdoors leading to a small balcony.
The downstairs bedroom is large also and has a double bed and a twin. Amenities include washer/dryer, propane heat, all cookware and linens.
Although the roads are very well maintained 4 wheel drive or AWD are recommended in winter months or mud season. The Cabin is 7 miles from town.

John Barwick purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why John Barwick chose Duxbury
I had been intrigued by this property for years - the view, the proximity to Camels Hump trailhead and the feeling of seclusion while only being a short drive from town all made the cabin my favorite spot.

Rustic but has everything you need and the view is incredible! Beds were exceptionally comfortable
Plenty of coffee filters. We left 100. Towels were plentiful. All appliances we used were goid. Rock fireplace.puts out a lot of heat! Yes, I'd stay here again!
Thanks! Glad you had a good time. Hope you can visit again sometime soon. JB
Relaxing and charming
This cabin is about a 10-minute drive on an unsealed road from Waterbury. It’s perfect if you’re looking for some Hygge in the woods with an amazing fireplace and a comfortable bed. The beds were all comfortable, the bathroom huge, and the fireplace phenomenal. Smells like burning cedar inside and is heavenly. John was very friendly and provided all the needed info readily. We did manage to take Ubers and a Snowflake cab from the cabin into Waterbury. It’s possible! Look no further, a great place.
Perfect Cabin with a Very Helpful Host
The cabin itself is perfect for a 2-5 people. The upstairs bedroom was plenty spacious, and the downstairs bedroom had two beds. The furnishings were all comfortable and the appliances all worked perfectly. A nice rustic wood stove provided nice additional heat to the standard heating systems in place. Laundry machine and hot water worked perfectly.
Our favorite part about our stay was how helpful John the host was. He was easily reachable by phone and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. He helped us get some snow shoes and directed us toward a local trail that we really enjoyed. Would absolutely stay here again!
Glad you had a nice visit. We look forward to seeing you again!
Looking forward to making this a habit.
The cabin is a short jaunt from Waterbury but is nested in the nearby hills. The location gave us access to those day to day items if needed but far away from the daily activity of the town.
A large fireplace greets you as you enter the adequately heated home. We enjoyed the fireplace so it was kept stoked with the large supply of readily available firewood. Deer and rabbit tracked were noted near the cabin daily. We enjoyed the peaceful morning wake ups to sunlight and snow covered grounds.
The house is two story with a large master bedroom. We used the downstairs bed room as our dressing room even though it easily accommodated it’s queen and twin sized beds.
Our wake ups were followed by breakfast then either the slopes or a trips to the Trapps family lodge , of the Sound of Music Trapp, or Ben and Jerry’s to name a few. The folks in Waterbury are friendly and very helpful if needed. The Green Mountain cafe, the Keurig folk, is a must stop for hot chocolate after walking around Waterbury. Nearby is a professional glass blower who more resembles a rock star than any image of a glass blower that I could conjure. There are many nearby places that offer tours, snowshoe, cross country, and even dog sledding to name a few.
This is a great cabin were we snuggled and “chilled” , sorry about the pun, and also used as a jumping off point for our winter adventures. Either way we enjoyed our stay at the cabin with a Mountain View.
So glad you guys had a great time and happy to hear you will be frequent guests. We look forward to you return!
Lovely, well-equipped comfortable cabin.
The cabin at Camels Hump was just perfect for our long weekend getaway.
Comfortable and very well-equipped.
Lovely bedrooms and a perfect sitting area by an oversized wood fireplace.
John was a great host who gave us a perfect tour, made us feel welcome and made himself available if we had any questions.
We hiked Camels Hump (easy access), enjoyed wonderful restaurants in the town of Waterbury about 10 minutes away, and skied Stowe which was an easy 35 minute ride from the cabin.
Gorgeous drive up to the cabin which felt fairly private, but easily accessible. Thanks John!
Great views and a great stay
First impressions are truly spectacular with this cabin. Pulling up on an unseasonably warm October afternoon, the backdrop unfolded itself and we were hooked. The cabin itself did not temper this feeling. All the amenities you could want in a cozy, but very spacious house. Well appointed. Easy access to the Monroe Trail. Do not hesitate to book.
