Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The perfect setting for your summer vacation on the Maine coast!

Leave the city behind and step into this one-of-a-kind authentic ocean-front cottage. On the inside of this cozy cottage, you’ll fall in love with the painted, wide plank floors, bookshelves, stone fireplace, and original paned windows. On the outside, the sites and sounds of the bold Maine coast, just steps away, will take your breath away. Sit on the porch in one of the Adirondack chairs and watch lobster boats pulling their traps, while sipping your morning cup of coffee. In the evening, witness gorgeous sunsets from the back lawn while enjoying a glass of wine. On a foggy day (you’re bound to have one), we suggest curling up by the fireplace with a good book or taking advantage of modern-day conveniences such as Direct TV, Apple TV, and WiFi.

Located near the quaint fishing village of New Harbor, this cottage is close to restaurants and gift shops, ice-cream parlors, a general store for grocery shopping, a gas station, historic lighthouse, library, and just down the road from one of the most beautiful beaches in Maine. The cottage itself is located on coveted Pemaquid Trail—a paved, yet private lane for walking, biking, and jogging.

The cottage has two bedrooms: The main bedroom has a queen-sized bed, dresser, and closet. The second bedroom has two twin-sized beds and a dresser. The cottage is also equipped with a livingroom sofa that can pull out into a full-sized bed. The eat-in kitchen is on the east side of the cottage, with a bathroom, complete with shower, off the kitchen.

What a beautiful spot

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Laughing Gull cottage. The view is absolutely beautiful, the cabin was classic "Downeast" and the hosts were fantastic. Pemaquid/New Harbor is a magical spot!

A peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

Laughing Gull Cottage helped me connect with the deep beauty of the Maine coast. The cottage combines a unique sense of place - an original log cabin with a large stone fireplace, cozy kitchen/dining area and covered porch - with modern conveniences such as a built-in iPhone charging station and Apple TV. The owners stopped by early on during my visit to say hello and make sure I had everything I needed. The cottage includes many charming touches -- colorful plates, framed photos of the area, dishes of beach glass and shells from the shore. I woke up every morning to the sound of the surf, opened the back door to smell the sea air, and began my day in quiet contemplation. An absolutely perfect week!

Classic Maine Coastal Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing at the Gull for several years and each stay tops the last. The owners, Thomas and Laurie, live across the street and personally see to all their tenants' needs. Eg. we lost power after a thunderstorm and Laurie was right over with candles and Thomas was prepared with not one, but two, generators. The Gull is close to all the amenities we needed; grocery, beach, fishing, kayaking, shopping, ice cream, and the lighthouse within a few miles. The property is very quiet and idyllic. Highly recommend this property which is small, yet cozy. Nice to be connected to Internet and tv.

A classic, indeed!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at the Laughing Gull cottage! It is most certainly “an absolute classic” - a vintage rustic cabin, updated for comfort while staying true to its origins, set 10 paces back from the beautiful Maine coastline. We found the cottage to be very well maintained and clean, and quite comfortable. It was a delight to see the beautiful sunsets and also to wake up in the morning to the sounds of the gulls and lobster boats and to fall asleep at night to the sound of the crashing waves. We had fun exploring the peninsula. Favorites included the Craft Coop in New Harbor, the Pemaquid lighthouse, the Salt Bay Heritage trail, Colonial Pemaquid and just wandering about Damariscotta. Thank you Laurie and Tom! We shall return!

Another Wonderful Stay.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Laughing Gull in September and again in June. It is a wonderful place with the most breathtaking ocean sunsets in the yard. During our last trip we trekked to Acadia, this time we stayed closer to home and enjoyed every minute. The Pemaquid Lighthouse is a favorite, a few minutes from Laughing Gull. You can climb the rocks along the lighthouse and the views from the rocks are just incredible. Pemaquid Beach is one block away and it's a wonderful little spot. Fort William Henry is also down the road and it's another place we love to visit. We ventured to Owl's Head Lighthouse (about an hour drive from Laughing Gull) and it was so worth it. There is a short, beautiful walk from the parking area to the lighthouse and then several steep (easy) steps leading up to the lighthouse. It's a lovely area. We also recommend visiting Round Pound (a few miles away) and the fish ladder restoration in Damariscotta. To see the fish ladder drive through Damariscotta then take a right on 215, it's a couple of miles down the road on the left (the left turn into parking lot is right after the bridge, there is a sign). Just walk behind the large building and you will see the trail/bridge leading to the fish ladder. There is so much wildlife. We loved dining at Savory Maine in Damariscotta, everything is local and they are vegan friendly. Waltz's in Damariscotta also has vegan shakes and smoothies, etc. Most of all we enjoyed our nights and mornings snuggled in at Laughing Gull. The ocean, fireplace and coziness of the cottage make it very hard to leave. Laurie and Thomas are wonderful and welcoming. This is truly a special place and we can't wait to visit again.
