Location, location, location. Some say that Whitehorse is just 20 minutes from The Yukon. While we all embrace our capital city as the economic, historic, and cultural hub that it is, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the outskirts of the city and truly appreciate the wild expansiveness of this territory. Located just 25 minutes north of the Whitehorse City Centre--a short 10 minutes off of the Alaska Highway--The Big Red Barn sits in the heart of one of the Yukon’s most popular aurora and night sky viewing areas.
Just off of the North Klondike Highway–on the ‘Marge of Lake Laberge'– The Big Red Barn is easily accessible. While a buffer of trees around our 22 acre property creates privacy, the central area is wide-open so you can fully appreciate the Yukon’s brilliant night skies, the aurora borealis, or our summer's famous midnight sun. Just off of the property, you’ll find ample walking trails including trails to the Yukon River. We're a short drive to the world-class Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, and Bean North Café on Takhini Hot Springs Road. To experience a slice of The Yukon’s grandeur while staying within easy reach of Whitehorse’s attractions and convenience, a stay at The Big Red Barn will give you the best of both worlds.
The Sweet Garden Suite is a spacious 1,100 sq. ft., one-bedroom, ground-floor apartment. It's two patio doors--one from the living/dining room and one from the bedroom--step out onto a covered patio with BBQ and outdoor seating. The apartment comes fully loaded with dishes, pots and pans, microwave, fridge, range, and an automatic espresso machine loaded with a locally-roasted coffee blend. The apartment features radiant in-floor heat and is tastefully decorated with authentic Yukon-themed movie posters, art by the Yukon’s own Emma Barr, and handcrafted furniture built from old growth fir that was repurposed from an authentic Klondike Gold Dredge. This accommodation offers a one-of-a-kind Yukon experience!
Note: With prior approval, the Sweet Garden Suite is pet-friendly. Advance approval is required (fees apply).
Stage 2 EV charging is available!
House rules: Advance approval is required for any pets. Additional fees may apply. Advance approval is required for events involving non-guests. Additional fees may apply. The Big Red Barn is located on a farm and has a LOT of resident animals. While they are generally friendly, they can be unpredictable. We ask that you stay out of their enclosures and refrain from feeding them. Lastly, if we don't know, we can't help. If you find anything lacking during your stay, reach out and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs. Furthermore, we have a myriad of kitchen appliances that we can provide from our home kitchen on request.

We’re a small family hobby farm based just outside of Whitehorse, and this barn is at the centre of our day-to-day life. It’s home to our horses and donkey, and over time it’s become a space we enjoy sharing with guests as well.
Our days are a mix of regular life and time outside, with animals in the background, projects always on the go, and a steady appreciation for the quiet that comes with being just outside of town. It’s a setting that feels a bit removed without being remote, which is something our guests often notice right away.
We’ve been hosting for many years, and creating spaces that feel comfortable and easy to settle into has always been important to us. Both the loft and the suite are set up to be practical, clean, and welcoming for a range of stays.
We keep things straightforward. We’re nearby if you need anything, but otherwise we aim to give guests space to enjoy their time here. Whether you’re visiting for the Northern Lights, the long summer days, or simply a quieter place to land, we’re glad to have you.

This side of Whitehorse is a bit more rural, with a mix of large farms and small acreages, open space, and a strong horse community. The property itself was once a working horse ranch, and that history still shapes the feel of it today.
Living here with horses is a big part of why we chose this location. There are trails and quiet country roads just beyond the property that you can follow for hours, whether for a walk, a bike ride, or simply exploring the area. It’s possible to loop out toward the Yukon River and back without retracing your steps, which is something we’ve always appreciated.
Being on the north side of Whitehorse also has its advantages in the winter months. With the city lights behind you, the northern skies are darker and less affected by light pollution, which can make for better Northern Lights viewing when conditions are right.
Nearby, you’ll find a few well-known local spots including Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, and Bean North Café, all just a short drive away.
It’s a peaceful setting with room to breathe, while still being an easy drive into Whitehorse when you need it.
