Joanna Gordon purchased this house in 1985
This cabin sits high up allowing for natural light from all four sides.
We shared the cabin with another family and the layout worked very well for us. We all gravitated to the main family room, although there was a second tv and hang out area the kids could have used to get away from the grown ups ;)
Upon arriving the kids immediately found the board games and hunkered down at the kitchen table while the grown ups got the fireplaces going. The kitchen had what we needed, nothing fancy but the simple mismatching glassware worked well enough. I didn't hear any complaints about the beds or linens. We usually bring our own pillows. Not a luxurious cabin... but a good one and worked well for our getaway.
The location was great, we could easily walk into town for dinner. We did notice that the driving directions were slightly off... At the T in the road the street sign said "Ligne" then changes street names along the way...
We had am amazing stay at the green cabin. The house stayed nice and warm and the backyard was perfect for playing in the snow. We will definitely be staying there again. Thank you for the wonderful cabin and great memories.
We had our family's 2015 Christmas Vacation at the Green Cabin. We received excellent instructions from the Gordons and settled in easily enough. Being our first time with Homeaway, we planned as if going on a camping trip with simple accommodations and we were wowed buy this beautiful three level cabin. The first floor had two bedrooms, a sitting area, a refrigerator, full bathroom with shower and a wood burning stove. The second and main level had a kitchen, dinning area, living room, full bathroom and a wood burning stove. The floor plan was open with vaulted ceilings that allowed the conversation to flow between all family members, as well as kept our eyes on the children. There was also a spacious master bedroom with another full bathroom with a large walkin shower and a wood burning stove. The living room had an exit out to a large balcony with a BBQ and a picnic style table. The master bedroom had a balcony as well. However, these balcony areas were limited due to the excessive snow. The third level loft was a closed in bedroom with two beds. The cabin was thoughtfully stocked with the basic needs, wondefully spacious and comfortable. The wooden stoves kept us warm and cozy. The amount of snow was crazy. We enjoyed playing games indoors, sledding, tubing and lovely walks in the beautiful surrounding areas with friendly neighbors or fellow vacationers. The town was within walking distance. We are a family of Police Officers with Portland, Vancouver and formally Hawaii Police. This location "The Green Cabin " is highly recommended for family gatherings! To the Gordons "THANK YOU" for sharing your amazing home. May you have a prosperous New Year! MUCH ALOHA. The Ocasios , The Werners and The Andersons.
My family has been slowly working our way up the mountain every Thanksgiving and this was our first stay in Government Camo. The location of the cabin was great. We could walk to town in less than five minutes. We found hills to sled on within five minutes of the cabin. It was perfect.
The cabin boasted wood stoves to heat. The problem is they smoked and made the air quality inside the house terrible. Four of us, who have asthma had to leave a day early because of it.
We are big football fans and they only had one television that worked and no cable to watch the Oregon game. Had to go into town to see it.
For having such a large cabin, the amenities were lacking. Had to purchase dishwasher soap, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. two of the burners on the stove barely warmed up and we were cooking thanksgiving dinner. Oven was not accurate in heat as our 27 pound turkey cooked in 4 hours at 325 degrees. Oven needs to be checked.
All in all the cabins location was the best part of the stay and if the owners correct the smoke and kitchen appliances I recommend you to stay here.
My sister got married at Mt. Hood Skibowl, and the majority of the attendees were staying at a nearby condo complex. I had to find a place for 10 attendees from out of town, and was ecstatic to find the Green Cabin, located right at the heart of Government Camp! It was close to all of the nearby restaurants, bars and groceries. It was even super close to the venue, and as the Maid of Honor, I was constantly shuttling between all the venue and the house, making it super convenient.
The cabin is rustic, clean and perfect for the large group. Everyone had a bed to sleep in without any weird sleeping arrangements. Additionally, despite the hot weather and lack of air conditioning, the cabin was in the shade and was cool in temperature. I would recommend this cabin for large families and get togethers!
