About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

Exceptional Value, Bright, Spacious, Clean and centrally located, our guests have raved about this apartment ever since we opened 10 years ago.( Please browse Guest Comments to see for yourself) This gorgeous one-bedroom apartment of 55 square meters (600 sq. ft.) has undergone a complete renovation recently. It is located on rue Beranger, in the Third Arrondissement at the Place de la Republique, in the heart of Paris. Place de la Republique is a lively and bustling plaza with supermarkets, pharmacies, taxi stands, restaurants and everything else. Metro Republique is just steps away and is a hub for 4 metro lines, so you can reach any point of Paris with a short ride away.

If you dread the idea of schlepping your suitcases up a flight of narrow stairs as much as I do, then this ground floor apartment is ideal for you. ...and if you're a bit claustrophobic staying in a typical Paris hotel or studio/loft apartment (read tiny), then you'll appreciate the spaciousness and the high ceiling of this one. This apartment is located behind not one but two interior courtyards, so it's an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. It is very safe as there is always plenty of shoppers and restaurant-goers about even quite late in the evening.

We've renovated this apartment by gutting it to bare walls and then rebuilt it tile by tile. It was done with the American traveller in mind, so it has all the comforts and conveniences you'd expect in a luxurious American apartment... the separate kitchen has a microwave , a refrigerator, dishwasher, 4 cook tops with oven, washer/ dryer as well as an eat-in area. The living room has a sofa and an arm-chair that folds out to sleep one, telephone, DSL Internet access and cable TV. The price is all inclusive, including the linens, so you won't get a surprise at the end of your trip. Indeed, this apartment would make an ideal stay for a couple, or a couple with a child.

The bedroom retains all the charms of a 19th Century mansion, with crown mouldings, fireplace, stain glass windows, 10 ft. ceiling, and original parquet floor. It has a queen-size bed and lots of closet space. In the tiled bathroom you can pamper yourself with a walk-in shower or a separate tub. This apartment can easily accommodate 3 persons. Please feel free to browse 'Guest Comments' below to get a feel of the apartment and get answers to some of the questions you may have. For your comfort, this is a SMOKE-FREE apartment. Children under ten years of age allowed with the permission of the owner. Please be advised that this is a self-catered limited service apartment. As such we will only provide linen service upon check-in, but not during your trip. We will have a contact person in case of any emergency. There is a binder with information on the use of appliances, tourist books on Parisien restaurants and sights to see. We will give you a web site if you need theater bookings, guided tours, etc.

Lastly, be sure to visit La Jeune Rue on rue du Vertbois, which is a leisurely 5 minute walk from the apartment. La Jeune Rue has been described as the intersection of delicious food and high design recently unveiled to great fanfare to the Parisien public. Please google recent New York Times and Wall Street Journal articles describing this new epicurean village.

About The Owner

My wife and I fell in love with Paris the first time we visited in 1986, and ever since then, we have come back again and again to this magical city. We decided to buy an apartment in 2004. After several months of intense work, we were able to call our little corner of Paris home.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2004

Why The Owner chose Enfants-Rouges

We love all of Paris but we are especially enchanted with Marais, with its many small boutiques, restaurants, one-of-a-kind stores. The apartment is within walking distance of the center of Marias, but is also close to the Metro Republique, where 5 metro lines intersect. It is therefore a hop and a scotch to all Paris.

Metro Republique.

Great apartment in fun neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

First off... the pictures do not do this little spot justice. It is 100x better in person! Having never been to Paris before I was a little nervous about finding the location when we arrived but it was super easy and the directions given by the host were perfect. We easily figured everything out. It was the perfect place to get around town as it is very close to the Metro (which I must say was quite easy to use as well). Everything was in great shape, clean, and pretty. I would most definitely stay here again!

Not what we expected

  • 2 of 5

The apartment is nice enough, good location. However, we booked it because it was supposed to be quiet. Less than two weeks prior to arrival, the owner told us there was construction work being done in the courtyard. Well, the construction began at 7:45 am right outside our window! In addition, the second week a plumber was booked by the management to come inside for FOUR days! Not only did this make me uncomfortable having workers INSIDE the apartment while I was in my pajamas, but I couldn't cook in the kitchen or keep our personal property safe. The owner finally answered my emails and offered a small amount of "discount" which I felt was insulting, given the disruption to our visit. He then offered more and we accepted it, but it was quite upsetting and unacceptable. I would not recommend renting from this owner, despite how nice his property might be - not good communication and no "back up plan" for us travelers.

Perfect location and spacious apartment with detail galore

  • 5 of 5

Most of our experience was good at this terrific apartment. The only downside was a mattress that was not friendly to my bursitis and husband's hip aches. It does need replacing. Other than that, we've not stayed in such a "customer friendly" space. Detail after detail made our stay good. Start with a separage shower and tub, large bathroom with shelves for toiletries. There was plenty of closet and drawer space in the bedroom and a place to entertain guests in the living room. Besides the bed, I would suggest a screen to cover that window for privacy. With a business across the courtyard who works very late and has very bright lights, we felt like we were in a fish bowl. A movable screen would solve that problem. Because of construction in the building, it was very difficut to get to the lock box. Yes, there is noice, but just during working hours. We did have several workmen, peeping at us as we ate b'fast, but just once. The Metro is really close by as is a Monoprix. We've stayed in 4 or 5 other rentals in Paris and this one was by far the best. We'd certainly stay here again.

Beautiful apartment

  • 5 of 5

This is a gorgeous apartment in a beautiful building. It is tastefully decorated, blending the old and the new. Larry has thought of every detail to make a traveller's stay comfortable and convenient. His prompt replies, easy booking process and great instructions on how to get to the apartment made travelling there very smoothly. The Marais is a great area to explore and it is easy to get to Paris sights and transit options from here. We will definitely be contacting Larry on future Paris trips. Thank you -- merci beaucoup!

Marvelous Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this wonderful apartment from October 1 to October 10. It was everything that was described and we loved it. We pretended we were Parisians and the apartment encouraged our fantasies. Having been to Paris many times before, it was not necessary to see and do all the touristy things. However, there was no lack of convenience in the transportation department. The Metro is only steps away and there is a taxi stand adjacent. There is a supermarket within easy walking distance. It is very close to the Republic Square. The square is chock full of restaurants, pastry shops, a creperie and shops. Our favorite little restaurant was right across the small street, Foug. They are Italian and the staff is wonderful. Remembered our favorite wine and poured it as we walked though the door. Wonderful food. We also liked Cafe Pierre which was a short walking distance. The apartment was spacious and very homey. It is in the rear of a very private courtyard and totally free of noise. I would highly recommend this property.

Shhhh, let's keep this a secret

  • 5 of 5

I am pleased to write a review for this property but I am somewhat reluctant at the same time. I would do nothing but rave about the location and setting and faun over the apartment itself. It is exactly as described by the owner: comfortable, quiet, and centrally located with ready transportation to anything a vacationer is likely to be doing in Paris. We immediately made friends with the staff at nearby La Barav which became our "goto" restaurant and chill-out locale. The patisserie at the corner soon knew I would be there early every morning for fresh-baked bread. Most important, though, is that we came and went quietly and easily at all hours and felt as though we were living in Paris, not just visiting. I worry, though, that once the word is out (and I fear it might already be) about this exceptional pied-à-terre that it might not be available when I am ready to return to Paris (soon I hope).
