About The Owner

This property has been in the family for over 20 years. I recently purchased it from other family members as it is a favorite of mine when visiting the area. Having lived in Alaska for over 40 years, I love the great outdoors and this property rivals much of what we see and love in Alaska. Its' proximity to Lake Placid makes it ideal for those wanting to enjoy the restaurants, shopping, and other amenities Lake Placid has to offer. Its' location makes it ideal for the nature lover.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2010

Why The Owner chose Keene

We love the old time feeling of the cabin, but love having the wireless interenet and the cable TV to keep us up-to-date.

What makes this cabin unique

The roar of the cascading water in the river is music to the ear. The beauty of the trees, foilage, and river is mesmerizing. The long walks along Hulls Falls Road are food for the soul and the body.

This is a beautiful little cabin, great for a family or 2 couples for a vacation.

We took a long weekend to do some hiking in the mountains and sightseeing. This cabin is perfectly located in the area. We hiked on Giant mtn., went shopping in Lake Placid and did the peak trail on Whiteface Mtn.- nothing was more than 20 minutes away. The cabin is right next to the river and there is a swimming area just down at the end of the road. Whether it's fishing, hiking, shopping or just lounging around poking the fire- this place is perfect. We will definitely be back next year!

Enjoyed the peacefulness of the cabin and having a fire in the fire pit under the stars.

A rustic original Adirondack log cabin build somewhere around 1940 with a more recent modern kitchen

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year we stayed at this wonderful cabin across the road from the famous Ausable river. When we arrived the housekeeper, Lisa, had the place immaculately clean for us. The bed in the front bedroom was very comfortable and with the windows cracked open, one can listen to the river peacefully lull you to sleep at night. The fire pit is out near the blacktop road and there are quite a few bicyclists, dog walkers, etc. but if you want more privacy you can sit back under the shady fir tree out of the sun by the back entrance during the daytime. The bathroom is indeed a bit small but my wife found plenty of room and lighting in front of the dresser mirror in the front bedroom. The common area is huge with a river rock fireplace and wildlife decor galore including coyote and beaver pelts on the walls and an old flintlock on the fireplace mantle. Above the kitchen table is a chandelier of elk horns. The newly added Keurig was a nice touch. Across the road and down by the river is a deck with a couple of deck chairs overlooking the river.

We truly enjoyed our stay as did our two dogs, yes they are pet friendly! The only things I could think of for improvement are putting a porch roof on the front so visitors could sit outside even if they stay during rainy weather, and a simple four foot wooden fence in front of the property along the road from the corner of the yard to the driveway would be great. Lastly, move the fire pit over near the picnic table. With the fence in place guests would have some privacy from passers by. Thanks again for a great stay!

Great little cabin in the perfect spot

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 2 consecutive weeks in August and LOVED our time in this sweet, little cabin. Every day we enjoyed a long walk and swam in the Ausable, right from our door. Yet, the location was also close enough to some awesome attractions - Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain, Saranac Lake, Ausable Chasm, Lake Champlain all within a short drive. The little towns of Keene and Keene Valley had nearly everything we needed - all except a CVS or other-type pharmacy, which we wound up needing for the dog. Closest was in Lake Placid - still reasonable enough.

The kitchen was better than most - complete with everything you'd need, clean and everything in good working order. Beds are comfortable, technology reliable, BIG family room making for plenty of space to spread out and relax.

The location of the cabin is on a road seldom traveled by many cars, and NOT open to trucks, making for a great place to go for a long walk, and we saw many others walking by (with and without dogs) throughout the day. It was SO peaceful and serene, with the river bubbling by to add to the sounds of nature - loons, deer, heron were some of the animals we spotted, and also head the call of owls, at night, making for some of the best sleep we have had in years!

We definitely plan to return, and have nothing but good things to say about the place, location and the owner - who answered every question we had promptly, and made sure our stay was a positive experience. I have already recommended the cabin to other members of our family.

Clean, spacious (bedrooms and bath are small) and nice location.

Very clean, cozy and pleasantly decorated; very close to the village of Keene and access to Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain and the Ausable Chasm.

Great cabin with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed a week in this cabin for Ironman Lake Placid and we really enjoyed our visit.

The biggest thing I can say about this cabin is that the pictures, summary, and reviews are very fair. I actually found the living room space in the cabin to be larger than I expected from the pictures. Everything was clean and all of the amenities that were described were present and working.

Having the river right across the road was also very nice. It was not a very easy walk down to the river as some of the original steps looked to have been removed on purpose but we were still able to navigate our way down there pretty easily.

There were no real negatives to staying in this cabin. A few of the other reviews mentioned the bedrooms being a little small and the shared bathroom between the two being quite small. I will have to agree with this assessment but I also knew this before I booked the property. This is probably not somewhere you want to book and share with others in which you are not familiar enough to share a small, shared bathroom. Otherwise, I have no hesitations recommending this cabin to everyone. If we are back in the area we will definitely look to book this one again.
