Our family of 11 had a fantastic week long vacation on Vinalhaven. The property was close to town yet felt nicely secluded. The house itself had everything we needed and Janica was quick to respond with any questions we had. Highly recommended!
You’ll feel like you are staying at your best friend’s house. They have all the things you and your people need beds, books, games, space, kitchen stuff, fire pits…I could go on and on. Just a short walk to Lawson’s quarry for a magical swim and a quick drive to hikes, downtown and other fun adventures. We can’t wait to book here again!
We loved our stay because there was a lot of space for two families with thirteen people, including a game room for the kids to play pool, ping-pong, and darts and to watch television, as well as a big living room with many board games, a gym in the basement, and a library with hundreds of books.
We could also bike into town, walk to the quarry, or bike to many hikes around the island.
The kitchen was big enough to make cooking for our crew easy, and there was also a fire pit outside, fussball and air hockey in the garage, and an outdoor tiny house for “glamping”.
Janica was a great hostess. Left us to ourselves, but always was right there with her texts in response to anything I asked. It really was like staying at a friend's house who was elsewhere. Everything you could want was there - and she provided much appreciated, goodies for us upon arrival. The only drawback was that it isn't on the water or have a water view. On the other hand, a swimming quarry is a 5 minute walk away - and a dog quarry on the opposite side as well. I think our dogs had at least as good a time as well did. Thank you Janica!
Our family of 15 stayed on this magical and remote little island. We didn’t know what to expect, but we were up for an adventure. Janica is the hostess with the mostest! Every question we had was answered…every need was met. The property is super close to the quarry where we spent tons of time. Lean into the unpredictable weather. Our first few days were foggy…it was amazing! It was in the mid 60s and the quarry water was still warm! We saw amazing sunsets at city point and the lighthouse. Every place we ate was good. If you can, take the “ferry” (2 min boat ride) to north haven and get one of the sandwiches from the market.
As far as the home goes there is plenty of room. Lots of bedrooms and spaces to go if you have a large group. The upstairs game/tv room was awesome! We spent lots of time in the front of the house by the fire pit. Janica provided more than enough extras
It is worth noting that the island is accessible by ferry only and you’ll want to make your reservations a month to the date of your trip. If that doesn’t work, don’t fret (it didn’t for us) there are lots of ferries throughout the day. Ask Janica how the ferry system works…it’s a little primitive but we actually felt like that was part of the adventure. The ferry itself was super fun worth tons of beautiful views (sit on observation deck if you can!
We loved EVERYTHING about our trip to this magical and moody island. Folks were kind and hospitable. We’d drive the 9 hours and take a ferry over again!
