Love Shack,Cabin, Forest,Mountains,Canyon Stream,Ojala,Ojai

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

The 'Love Shack' is a cozy cottage, rustic and tastefully furnished with the work of local artists. The cabin has many windows with river and canyon views, as well as a wood burning stove and a screened in porch overlooking the stream (a raging river when it rains heavily). Nestled among heritage oaks and sycamores, it is on the grounds of Ojala, an old resort that is now our private retreat.

Enjoy the soothing sound of the flowing river water, canyon breezes, fresh clean air and drinking water from our own mountain spring. Wild yet peaceful, Ojala is surrounded by the mountains of the Los Padres National Forest with superb hiking trail heads adjacent to property.

Located only three miles from Ojai, known for its historic spiritual community, music festival and tennis tournament, restaurants and galleries, and for the 'Pink Moment'. We are close to the Sespe Condor Wilderness, Lake Casitas, the Ocean and Santa Barbara.

The Love Shack is an intimate getaway for those who love simple luxury and want to be in a natural setting.

Wood burning stove in the winter.

Pool in the summer.

Screened in porch overlooking the creek, all year long

Why Anna chose Central Coast

What makes this cottage unique

Ojala is on the edge of Ojai, on the edge of the river bank, on the edge of the Los Padres Forest wilderness, and on the edge of civilization.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Anna & Robert

We are leaving today, regretfully, but with plans to return. This is the perfect weekend vacation for us; we will be back. Listening to the river flowing gladdens my heart; watching the light on the mountains through the upper windows at dusk is a treat beyond compare.

Thankyou for for the lovely bed, beautiful flowers, delightful pottery and all the quaint and intimate touches which make each visitor feel especially loved and prepared for, like precious invited guests.

We look forward to returning soon-

Debby & Tim

Beautiful surrounding, cosy cabin, wonderful experience

What to say? First the downsides my now fiancée and I encountered:

1. I could have sworn I saw reference to landline telephone service. There was no such thing. This wouldn't be much of a problem except for #2.

2. Mobile service is spotty at best. I was there from 2017/13/02 to (if I recall correctly) 2017/16/02 (I'm only now writing a review because I've had a lot going on and simply forgot about it!). To be fair this was indeed noted and at least there was WiFi (with a short downtime).

3. WiFi went down but we went across the road and the man who resided there kindly helped us out (and it was back up shortly after that).

4. The lamp in the bedroom had a bent cord (that is, the actual connector, the technical name escaping me other than prongs) and this was clearly damage done by another person who stayed. We reported this and they investigated this.

5. This again isn't the fault of Anne but the dishes were rather filthy with grime and grease on them. We washed them but we were a bit distrusting of dishes from that point. I think maybe they should run the dishes through a dishwasher after every stay or wash them themselves much more thoroughly but this is only a one time inconvenience (since we are perfectly capable of washing them too) and does not take away the beauty and pleasure staying there.

Those problems being said (and they were all addressed by Anne or probably more so the one - whose name escapes me - who looks after the property) we had a lovely time. We really enjoyed listening to the constant flow of the river (which is very close to the cabin); it was so peaceful and beautiful (to look at too). The entire area was gorgeous and we had a lovely time despite any quibbles as noted above. I would recommend this place definitely to those who want a cosy, romantic stay with a partner. I'll also say there are some very intriguing paintings/pictures in the bedroom but I won't say more than that (though we of course took pictures of it and all the rest of the cabin and the nature around it). I proposed here on Valentines Day which also happens to be my birthday.

It should be noted, lastly, that the bridge mentioned, is off limits except during flooding, so despite us wanting to walk across it, we could not. But that's of little concern because it's beautiful regardless!

Thank you very much Anne (and to those looking after the property). I hope to one day stay here again! We had a lovely time!

Would come back again and AGAIN!

  • 5 of 5

Went with my dear friend for a writing retreat and we had a WONDERFUL time at the Love shack. We went on hikes, cooked in the quaint kitchen, had a fire going every night... As I've said, we'd come back again and again. I can't recommend this place enough.

Had an amazing time at the love shack

  • 5 of 5

Super clean, quaint, comfortable. The nearness to the river was amazing day and night, awaking to the sound of the river and sleeping to it at night. Kitchen is well suited for basic cooking. Excellent romantic getaway!
