A wonderful time capsule

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my wedding party over Labor Day weekend and it was the perfect place for what we needed. Everyone was coming from out of town and we had plenty of space for my groomsmen and their wives. It was extremely clean, everything worked well and I didn't have any complaints. It reminded me of staying at my grandmothers, from the decor to the natural smell. It's a very peaceful place with a camp vibe. The grounds were kept in pristine shape. The pool was clean, we didn't end up using it because it was a little cooler out but you could tell it was well cared for. Bang for the buck if you have a large party that needs a place to stay close to the St. Joe area this can't be beat!

'Vintage' but clean and nice

  • 5 of 5

Older but well cared for. Perfect for large groups. Really enjoyed the pool and a short walk to the lake and park. Perfect firepit out back accommodated a group of about 20 people nicely.

One small problem with bees by the pool was taken care of immediately by Greg.

Great time with the fam

  • 4 of 5

My family & I stayed here in August 2017, 8 adults & 6 children. We had a wonderful time getting away from the stresses of everyday life. Having multiple couples that could stay in their own rooms & put kids down for naps/bedtime without worrying about others waking the kids was priceless. The covered patio was the perfect place to enjoy all of our meals & hang out in the evenings once all of the children were in bed. The pool is huge & had plenty of toys for the kids to enjoy.

Greg & Vicki were extremely hospitable and friendly. Vicki stays on the grounds, in a cottage behind the lodge so she was very accessible & was quick to respond to questions via text. As mentioned in other posts, Greg or Vicki come by every morning to clean the pool. The lodge itself is on a hill but it is off of a semi-busy road so the pool itself is not as private as my family is used to when we book vacation homes. But Vicki was more than willing to put up a tarp on the fence facing the street to try and give us modest folks a little more privacy.

During our stay we made sure to check out Hagar Park which was small but a nice little beach & park for the kids to enjoy one day. We also traveled to Silver Beach which was about 20 minutes away & much larger with a carousel, park, water park & lighthouse. We also traveled to South Haven which was fun, too. My BIL wanted to fish with his son so Greg suggested Little Paw Paw lake.

The lodge is what we expected from the pictures posted. It is "vintage" so no modern decor or wifi or any high tech amenities. My family likes to cook meals on our vacation trips so that means a stocked kitchen is important to us. The kitchen itself is quite small and difficult to maneuver in if there are multiple people trying to move around in there. There is not a ton of cooking utensils/items but we made do with what was on hand. Also, we did not bring beach towels because we figured they would be available to us but there are only bath towels. But again, we made it work. There is also no washer/dryer on site.

It is also important to note that Vicki told us when we arrived that only potty trained children are allowed in the pool, even if they are wearing swimmies. However, we were not aware of this since I did not see that anywhere on the site prior to booking and our party included 4 non-potty trained children. Again, Vicki was very accommodating though and understanding.

Overall, we had a wonderful time. Thanks Vicki and Greg!

This rental was perfect for our family! We had three families, and t was more space than we needed. Greg and Vicki were very kind and kept the place very clean. Greg stopped by each morning to clean the pool. There was a great fireplace and backyard. We walked to the beach/park each morning with the kids and had a ball!

The units were divided perfectly for our family - each had a bathroom, fridge, and coffee maker. Three of the 5 units had multiple rooms, great for us since we put the baby's down and were able to go to bed later without waking them up.

They had plenty of dishes, cups, they had silverware, oven worked great, and they had lots of microwaves.

We had an awesome time, and plan to vacation here again!!

Great option for a reunion!

  • 5 of 5

We have a group that gets together once a year, and we have been camping in the past, but wanted to try something different. This place offered each family privacy, yet great spaces to spend time together. We loved not having to share the pool with a whole campground! We loved being able to walk to the park on Lake Michigan. We loved being able to sit outdoors even when it was raining because of the covered patio the whole length of the rental units. The units had the feel of grandma's cottage, they were quaint, neat and clean. I would stay here again.
