Comfortable and clean with everything you might need. The location was beautiful and quiet - away from crowds yet so convenient to restaurants, lovely hikes (LaVerna Preserve) and the ferry to Monhegan Island. A wonderful stay!
We couldn’t ask for a better week at “The Grey Roof house “. The location is wonderful ! The place is immaculate and well stocked with all you might need . The front porch was the best part !
Really enjoyed our stay here. Access to the cove provided ample time for swimming and exploration by our kids - one of the highlights of our trip. It's very quiet, well-equipped and clean. Will hopefully be back!
This cottage is on a quiet back road with beautiful views and nearby hiking. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you might need. We loved our time in Round Pond.
We loved everything about the house and felt it was set up perfectly for our family vacation. The setting is amazing and it's close to all amenities in town. Ideal rental all around. There is a wonderful porch with views where we spent a great deal of time. We would return in a heartbeat.
We had the most wonderful stay at Linda’s property. There were 6 of us ( two adults and 4 children under 7) It is in the most beautiful quiet location but also a short walk to a historic country store and a couple of nice restaurants. The kids enjoyed sea glass hunting in the morning and spending time on the porch looking out at the water. It was a great home base to visit Pemaquid Beach and Boothbay for day trips and we were always happy to return “home.” The cottage was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. We would love to return someday. Thanks for sharing this magical place with us Linda.
Grey roof cottage is on a quite dead-end road overlooking the water with access to go exploring at low tide. The cottage is clean aand comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped. The owners are very accessible and resonsive to any requests. Thank you for a wonderful week.
The cottage is clean and comfortable, and the kitchen is very well equipped. Ample towels and cotton bedsheets are provided This is an older house, which the owner is renovating--for example, brand new windows throughout. Not for the mobility-challenged, as the stairs to the bedrooms are steep with shallow treads. The house sits just above a lovely and peaceful cove off Muscongus Bay. Sitting by the cove is a delight--comfortable adirondack chairs on the sea wall, with eagles, ospreys, cormorants, loons, and ducks, and the morning lobster boat run. We enjoyed the house and quiet location so much that we rarely ventured off the peninsula. Highly recommended!
The cottage was exactly as described. Fully stocked kitchen along with linens and towels. Beautiful views from front porch and side closed in porch. Water access with chairs a real plus. We were able to watch a lobsterman check his traps. Hostess was very prompt in responding to any questions we had. Would definitely book this cottage again. Perfect cottage, perfect vacation.
Wonderful family vacation in Round Pond. The property is exactly as advertised and completely met our expectations. Linda the owner is very responsive and is available for any questions or local recommendations. The property is very well stocked so you don’t need to bring or purchase small items for cooking and such. It has all necessary pillows, towels and sheets. The patio is lovely to sit on and relax in the rocking chairs. When you want a change of view, we walked down to the 4 Adirondack chairs down on the bay. Such a beautiful view and so peaceful. We even enjoyed Linda’s horseshoe pit. The house is only 1.3 miles down from Granite Hall and the local ice cream shop. Short drive to Shaws seafood, Pemaquid light house, Pemaquid beach, Muscongus Lobstet Co and Demariscotta. Such a fun and relaxing week. We definitely will be returning,
We had wonderful week at the Vintage Maine Cottage on Back Shore Rd. The cottage is near the end of a newly-paved (wile we were there) 1.2 mile winding road through the woods. It's a very private and calm environment: beautiful sunrises, quiet evenings and starry nights. Our host Linda communicated with us proactively a few days before our arrival with entry and house details, She wrote that the water in the house, "although safe to drink, has a taste, and we recommend bringing bottled water; we will leave a gallon in the fridge to start you off." The water indeed had a bad taste, and we used a Zero Water filter to make it drinkable and also got bottled water. Perhaps this should be noted in the property description on VRBO so a prospective renter is aware. Everything else about the cottage was great. Linda is a very nice and responsive host!
The house had plenty of space, very clean and well stocked kitchen. Linens and towels provided, which made packing for the trip much easier. Linda kept in touch on our arrival and departure days. She was quick to respond to any questions we had.
The house is right across the road from the water (with water access). We went down to our spot by the water every day to look for shells and rocks, watch crabs and snails crawling about, and wade in the water. We were able to keep our kayaks down by the water and took a couple of trips on the bay, including a 3 hour trip where we spotted seals nearby and enjoyed some time at a small beach on Hogs Island.
The neighbors were friendly, the area is very quiet and the weather cooperated. It couldn't have been a better trip.
Vintage cottage, vintage Maine Coast, vintage vacation! Marking our 30th year visiting Mid Coast Maine, our family renewed and expanded on traditions that have become our "Way Life Should Be!"
We loved watching the Terns from the adirondack chairs, marveled at the Bald Eagle(s) in the spruce directly across from the cottage, and enjoyed one family meal after another on the terrific porch! Warm temps were eased by window fans; the screened room made for a perfect part-time office; easy access to Pemaquid Beach, Peamaquid Light, the Bristol Swimming Hole, and Damarariscotta allowed for plenty of stay-at-home time to relax and enjoy.
The listing is spot-on; bedrooms, kitchen, laundry, bathrooms, gas grill... it's all there, clean, in good order, and comfortable! The walk to Round Pond "center" is pleasant and 95% of the light traffic is walkers: friendly neighbors and their dogs.
Don't miss the many properties of the Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust; Explore, hike, walk... all kinds of great options, and one's just up the road apiece!
(Top Secret: the mosquitoes were nearly non-existent, except right at and after dusk.)
Thank you, thank you!

I grew up summering in Round Pond, Maine, and we live next door to the cottage during the summer. We have owned and rented the cottage since 1995. We have had the same couple rent the entire summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) from us for over 10 years, but sadly they couldn't return starting in 2023, so it is now available again for others to discover.
