About Cynthia Townshend-Lacock

My husband and I designed and built this villa in 1989 so that we and our growing family could vacation together in spacious privacy. We are both enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, hiking and cooking.

Why Cynthia Townshend-Lacock chose Virgin Gorda

We searched throughout the Caribbean for 12 years before choosing Virgin Gorda. This island is perfect, with few tourists, lots of beautiful secluded beaches, good restaurants and friendly people

What makes this villa unique

Casa Rocalta is built on 35ft boulders and looks out over the tree tops. The living and sleeping spaces are connected by bridges and decks, creating a 'Swiss Family Robinson' atmosphere. Because each bedroom is a separate building, the villa provides privacy for three couples or a family.

Casa Rocalta is a true island gem!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Rocalta is a gorgeous home nestled among giant boulders that typify Virgin Gorda. It is a villa of five separate structures which are surrounded by lush vegetation. Each structure is carefully placed within the boulders so that you feel totally private and totally wonderful. At the center, a luxurious pool and upper porch offer breathtaking views of the sea. Casa Rocalta is truly a gem. We had the luxury of having our own space to retreat to at the end of the day. We traveled with two other couples who are close friends and we all just didn't want to leave.

Girlfriends Guide to Relax

  • 5 of 5

Casa Rocalta was and is the perfect location to unplug and reconnect with friends, family and nature. This villa is perched high above the tree line amongst massive boulders with spectacular views. It's casual but elegant with minimal furnishings and tasteful decor. All of the sleeping quarters are separate buildings and wood decking leads you from hut to hut. It almost feels like a tree house. My girlfriends and I were channeling our inner "Jane" and it felt pretty amazing! We visited VG in April around Easter time and it was a little more special with of all of the holiday festivities going on. We even went to an adult Easter Egg hunt up at the Mad Dog and which made us feel like kids again. Found eggs were filled with prizes of frozen cocktails and such which is why it was for the adults. It's a fun, quaint watering hole and only a 10 min walk from the house. You can keep yourself busy all day going on mini adventures or flop on the beach with a great book. We did both.

Id sum it up like this.... Warm breezes, morning walks, breathtaking beaches, sun kissed faces, flip flops, afternoon snorkeling, tropical fish you only see on tv, cocktails at sunset, dinners by candlelight, crisp white sheets, the best sleep ever and lots and lots of laughs! Casa Rocalta was the ultimate setting for a trip I will never forget. Thanks for sharing!

It's almost impossible to describe Casa Rocalta, a villa of five separate structures, embraced by lush foliage and tiered among giant boulders incorporated into the dramatic architecture of each building. At the center, a luxurious pool and upper porch offer respite from the midday sun and breathtaking views of the sea. Casa Rocalta is truly a paradise, from the perfectly appointed accommodations to its breathtaking views. Only the spectacular neighborhood attractions (the beach just down the road for swimming and snorkeling, and the awesome Baths, a short walk up the road) could lure us away. We did visit area highlights, our favorite being our drive to the north end for dinner on Saba Rock. Honestly, it took an occasional mosquito or no-see-um bite to remind us we were not in Paradise.

A Glimmer of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Picture yourself surrounded by lush tropical foliage complete with coral and crimson blossoms, and night blooming Cirreus in sun- bright yellow. Add to this view, glistening turquoise waters, both from the ocean and from the refreshing pool. Paradise is yours for the duration of your stay.

My companions and I walked easily to the beach at Spring Bay. We also walked to The Baths, spectacular boulder formations skirted by dipping pools and adventuresome, fun hiking. We were conveniently able to snorkel from our location and swim among the brightly colored fish.

We found it convenient to rent a vehicle so that we could take advantage of other beaches and enjoyable restaurants nearby: Little Dix, Savannah Bay, Saba Rock, Cocoa Maya, to name a few.

This villa was comfortable, spacious, and fully equipped with facilities to enjoy cooking on site, lounging about the pool, enjoying spectacular sunsets from the perch of our spacious patio, and star gazing at night. I highly recommend Casa Ricolta for a relaxing or adventuresome getaway.

Couldn't have dreamed up a more pleasurable vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Casa Rocalta is the gem of Spring Bay! After waking to the music of the morning island animal life we spent mornings walking the boulder trails to Stoney Bay and Devil's Bay, running the gentle roadways with family members young and old, and chilling with fresh coffee and spectacular rainbows! Virgin Gorda is a quiet island with a variety of dining options. Ringing in the new year is always a treat at the Mad Dog just up the road. Family time on Savannah Bay catching the waves, scuba lessons, daily snorkeling trips from the easily accessible beach, and tennis with friends. It doesn't get much better than this! Thank you Casa Rocalta!!!

Amazing Villa, Spectacular Views

  • 5 of 5

We had a tremendous stay at Casa Rocalta and highly recommend both Virgin Gorda and Casa Rocalta. The location was great - just a short drive to town, and a very short walk to beautiful quiet beaches. We found a morning walk along the beach was a great day starter. Several days we made the slightly longer but manageable walk to the magnificent trail through the Baths.

The villa was immaculately clean (a priority for us), spacious and very private - we were immediately comfortable there. The villa is built into the side of a cliff and afforded magnificent views of Tortola and the Sir Francis Drake Channel. We ended most days with cocktails in or around the pool watching spectacular sunsets over the Channel. The photos here are a good sampling of the experience. The grounds are nicely landscaped with a variety of flowering plants and shrubs. Another cool feature - the buildings on the property actually integrated the boulders into the construction. We'll be back!!

Owner's Response: It is gratifying to hear about people who have stayed in Casa Rocalta and appreciate our efforts to create this villa in the rocks. Our adventure began 20+ years ago to design and build a place to enjoy nature and share the experience with others.
