Stunning Tuscan Cottage in the Heart of Sonoma's Wine Country

Bedrooms 1
Space 1,450 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Set among the legendary hills of Glen Ellen that adventurer Jack London made famous in his novels, our Guest Cottage shares the same pristine views that drew London to settle here. Just minutes outside of the charming village, this sumptuous 11-acre estate enjoys complete privacy and is designed to fully embrace the wine country lifestyle.

Take the two-lane road from the village of Glen Ellen then up the private drive to Villa Bacchus and find yourself in a sunny, secluded retreat designed with every element you need to relax, play and celebrate with friends and family. Architect and nationally known artist, Dennis Ziemienski, created a stunning contemporary expression of wine country living that is in harmony with the land and its history.

The driveway circles around a tall fountain, and the main house, the guest house and the garage all border on the drive. The buildings design was inspired by Andrea Palladio, a Renaissance master, and one of the most influential architects in the Western world. His concepts have been translated into a sophisticated estate that surrounds you with luxurious details that satisfy all your desires for relaxation and recreation in an elegant, yet comfortable manner.

The spacious guest house (1450 sq ft) shares the architectural design of the main home and special design details abound. The ground floor has a full kitchen with birdseye maple cabinets, a Wolf range and oven, stainless appliances, a dishwasher and concrete counters with an adjoining dining area.

A faux painted arch opens to the large living room and its soft burnt umber walls, travertine floors and Venetian Murano lights that hang from a vaulted ceiling. Spend some quiet time in front of the fireplace as you enjoy the comfortable seating arrangement. Double doors lead out to a café table and chairs that face the central fountain.

The bathroom is on the main floor and features a tiled, glass-front shower, and a freestanding vanity with an ultra-modern sink on a “floating” concrete counter.

Tile floors in the entryway and the stairs are coated with a copper patina for a subtle metallic sheen. A bedroom suite occupies the entire second story with its views of the hillsides and glass doors that open to a “Juliet” balcony, which overlooks the central fountain. A king bed, desk and seating area make this a tranquil place to unwind.

The estate's owners (and their dog) reside in the main house and are available to assist you in planning your visit, but are far enough away to provide you with complete privacy.

About Rymer

We have been living in the Sonoma Valley since 1998. We came to the area thinking we had found a place for vacations and weekends and like many others found that the setting and the lifestyle were so suited for us, that we settled here permanently. We have a beautiful and friendly Rhodesian Ridgeback dog who loves nothing better than to lounge outside and drink in the sunny weather! We have traveled extensively around the world and have yet to find a location that matches what we have found in Glen Ellen!

Rymer purchased this cottage in 1998

What makes this cottage unique

Beyond the obvious wine tasting - which is certainly a remarkable benefit of the area - Sonoma is perfectly situated for a wide variety of sports, culture and culinary delights. Tennis courts are readily available; both road and mountain biking are some of the best in the country; and, there are several world-class golf course just minutes from cottage. And Sonoma is at the heart of the culinary revolution in America. There are several weekly farmer's markets within a short drive and countless world class restaurants.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Joshua and Tim for a lovely stay. We came for the long weekend and wish we could have stayed longer. The cottage was so homey and spacious. We cuddled in front of the fireplace and enjoyed the feeling of being far away from the city - even though we were just minutes from Glen Ellen. We're sure to come back!

BEAUTIFUL cottage in Glen Ellen!

This property is stunning! Beautifully appointed and so very tranquil. Joshua and Tim are fantastic at making you feel welcome and special on this wonderful property. And Jengo ( even though we barely saw him) is also a very welcoming host!

Lovely Cottage in Quiet Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful property, with all the amenities one needs for a relaxing stay. Our hosts were very welcoming and went above & beyond to see we were well taken care of. Joshua provided a list of favorite restaurants and wineries, as well as activities in the area. The recommendations were spot on. We tried several of the restaurants & visited a Kenwood winery that was on the list (excellent). We stay at VRBO properties frequently and this was one of our favs. Highly recommend!

Exceptional experience once again. Superb quarters and well cared for. Very clean.

This property once again is cared for by attentive owners who are both very responsive and careful to keep an eye out for the rental without being intrusive. Ultra quiet setting, beautifully cared for and conveniently close to the village. The central location makes visiting all of the appellations in this area of the state most handy. Definitely an excellent value for the fee. This is one property to keep on your go to list for top rentals available in this part of California.

A delightful Stay and Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Our experience and hit rate with finding exceptional lodging at reasonable prices with VRBO and Airbnb is 100% and our recent stay in Sonoma at Villa Bacchus was nothing short of Wonderful. The Hosts, Joshua and Tim were amazing, the accommodations and amenities, such as wifi, AC and the extra's they left us in the fridge were flawless. It's the first VRBO we have stayed at wherein we didn't have to call them a single time for anything. The place was clean, the furnishings are quality, the artwork is pleasing to the eye and the location was incredible with several winery's spitting distance away, yet, you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but so close to everything:) I can't say enough great things about our stay, if you have read any of the reviews as we did prior to selecting the Tuscan Cottage, we now know, they are 100% true. Thanks Josh and Tim for making are stay memorable and comfortable and at the same time respecting our privacy! We look forward to our next visit to Sonoma County and your place:)

Beautiful home, great hosts!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were in the Napa area for Bottlerock Music Festival, our first time. The Tuscan cottage was beautiful, clean and spacious. Loved the music throughout the house. Joshua was a wonderful host. He and his dog greeted us as we drove in and showed us around. It was lovely to have him there on the property. We would definitely stay here again!

A beautiful drive led to a beautiful little cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The property is charming and welcoming. The cottage serves as a great home base for day trips while you're touring wine country. The hosts were phenomenal -- great communication from the start -- and also very accommodating. If you want a quiet and comfortable place to stay that still has the modern comforts of home, look no further.
