Stunning Tuscan Cottage in the Heart of Sonoma's Wine Country

Bedrooms 1
Space 1,450 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Set among the legendary hills of Glen Ellen that adventurer Jack London made famous in his novels, our Tuscan home shares the same pristine views that drew London to settle here. Just minutes outside of the charming village, this sumptuous 11-acre estate enjoys complete privacy and is designed to fully embrace the wine country lifestyle.

Take the two-lane road from the village of Glen Ellen then up the private drive to Villa Bacchus and find yourself in a sunny, secluded retreat designed with every element you need to relax, play and celebrate with friends and family. Architect and nationally known artist, Dennis Ziemienski, created a stunning contemporary expression of wine country living that is in harmony with the land and its history.

The driveway circles around a tall fountain, and the main house, the guest house and the garage all border on the drive. The buildings design was inspired by Andrea Palladio, a Renaissance master, and one of the most influential architects in the Western world. His concepts have been translated into a sophisticated estate that surrounds you with luxurious details that satisfy all your desires for relaxation and recreation in an elegant, yet comfortable manner.

The main house shares the architectural design of the cottage and special design details abound. The ground floor has a full kitchen with birdseye maple cabinets, a Wolf range and oven, stainless appliances, a dishwasher and concrete counters with an adjoining dining area.

A faux painted arch opens to the large living room and its soft burnt umber walls, travertine floors and Venetian Murano lights that hang from a vaulted ceiling. Spend some quiet time in front of the fireplace as you enjoy the comfortable seating arrangement. Double doors lead out to a café table and chairs that face the central fountain.

The bathroom is on the main floor and features a tiled, glass-front shower, and a freestanding vanity with an ultra-modern sink on a “floating” concrete counter.

Tile floors in the entryway and the stairs are coated with a copper patina for a subtle metallic sheen. A bedroom suite occupies the entire second story with its views of the hillsides and glass doors that open to a “Juliet” balcony, which overlooks the central fountain. A king bed, desk and seating area make this a tranquil place to unwind.

The estate's owners reside on the property and are available to assist you in planning your visit, but are far enough away to provide you with complete privacy.

About Rymer

We have been living in the Sonoma Valley since 1998. We came to the area thinking we had found a place for vacations and weekends and like many others found that the setting and the lifestyle were so suited for us, that we settled here permanently. We have traveled extensively around the world and have yet to find a location that matches what we have found in Glen Ellen!

Rymer purchased this cottage in 1998

What makes this cottage unique

Beyond the obvious wine tasting - which is certainly a remarkable benefit of the area - Sonoma is perfectly situated for a wide variety of sports, culture and culinary delights. Tennis courts are readily available; both road and mountain biking are some of the best in the country; and, there are several world-class golf course just minutes from cottage. And Sonoma is at the heart of the culinary revolution in America. There are several weekly farmer's markets within a short drive and countless world class restaurants.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Joshua and Tim for a lovely stay. We came for the long weekend and wish we could have stayed longer. The cottage was so homey and spacious. We cuddled in front of the fireplace and enjoyed the feeling of being far away from the city - even though we were just minutes from Glen Ellen. We're sure to come back!

Home Away from Home .... Charming Tuscan Villa that I did not want to leave

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we turned the corner I feel in love with our Tuscan Cottage. It reminded me of my trip to Tuscany, Italy and the Vila we stayed at. This was going to be our home for a week and it truly felt like I was at home. The cottage was spacious approx 1600, everything was new and immaculate, with all the amenities of a hotel and all the comforts of being home. I love to cook and the kitchen was a dream with a Wolf stove and all kitchen appliances and dinnerware. Joshua greeted us when we arrived and thoroughly went thru the house with us. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine, cheese/crackers, and provided coffee. The cottage, which to me was more like a Villa, was in Glen Ellen, a quaint little town with wonderful restaurants and close/easy access to Napa and Sonoma counties. There are also wonderful winery's in Glen Ellen. Matazas Creek was one of my favorite which I became a wine club member of.

This was my first trip to Wine Country .... we had such a wonderful time that we extended our trip and Joshua was so accommodating for our extension. We look forward to returning to Sonoma/Napa and will definitely be staying here again.

Joshua was available 24/7 for anything we needed, and responded immediately to any questions we had. He provided information for our wine trips, restaurants etc. I can't say one negative comment about this wonderful experience we had. It was all positive from start to finish.

Thank you Joshua from making my first trip to Napa/Sonoma a wonderful and memorable experience. Trevor and I are forever grateful.

This is an amazing property!

Joshua and Tim have an amazing place tucked away in the quiet Glen Ellen. From the little one lane road through the hills and forest to get there to the peace and quiet you will have, just makes this the best place to get away from it all. There’s no missing the city life for sure. The cottage is beautifully done and very comfortable. You won’t regret your stay one bit, but you may hate when it comes time to leave.

Simply doesn't get any better

My girlfriend and I recently had the privilege of staying in this wonderful cottage for a trip to Sonoma/Napa. What an incredibly comfortable, clean, luxurious, and accommodating place we chose. Joshua is an incredible host and one of the most approachable, warm-hearted guys I've ever met. He made us feel so welcome and I loved everything about his cottage. From the decor, to even the smallest details such as coffee and creamer. We just loved it. Thank you again for such a great experience, Joshua!

Quiet, private luxury in beautiful Glen Ellen, California

  • 5 of 5

First off, the property is incredible. Set up close to a mile in the hills, the cottage was an inviting 'home' after a day of discovery, and wine, in the amazing Sonoma area. And most of all, the owners Joshua and Tim, could not have been more welcoming. They somehow mastered the art of being available but also respecting privacy, and the cottage they have created gave us all the comfort, space, and peace we could ask for. And, Joshua's recommendations were excellent and helped guide us around wine country. As we regretfully left the great accommodations on our last morning in Glen Ellen, we could easily say that there is no where else we'd stay upon a future visit to Sonoma County. Thank you to Joshua, Tim, and their dog Jengo for the hospitality. See you next time.

Lovely Cottage in Quiet Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful property, with all the amenities one needs for a relaxing stay. Our hosts were very welcoming and went above & beyond to see we were well taken care of. Joshua provided a list of favorite restaurants and wineries, as well as activities in the area. The recommendations were spot on. We tried several of the restaurants & visited a Kenwood winery that was on the list (excellent). We stay at VRBO properties frequently and this was one of our favs. Highly recommend!
