About the property

McRaney Mansion sleep in luxury where the stars stay!

Welcome to the 1st floor flat in this famously-celebrated 1823 Mansion in the heart of the historic French Quarter. This award-winning home was formerly owned by renown actress, Delta Burke and movie star Gerald McRaney and still remains in the family. It has been featured in numerous movies, commercials, advertisements and hosted many celebrities and international dignitaries. Our home is professionally decorated in an elegant and luxurious Tuscan style with old world touches and an eclectic modern mix. Ideally located between St. Philip and Ursuline Streets you can enjoy sitting on the front stoop sipping 5 o’clock cocktails and watch the world go by.

This beautiful flat is a spacious 2400 square feet of elegance and luxury. The Living Room features 14-foot floor to ceiling windows dressed in custom silk draperies looking out onto Royal Street. Two beautiful and comfy leather sofas create an elegant conversation niche while including those sitting at the antique granite and mahogany bar in backed leather stools visit while all are sipping a cocktail. There is enough silver and crystal barware available for any type of gathering. The bar is designed with thoughts for a having a bartender to serve from if needed. Many an enjoyable time has been had by friends and family over years of holidays shared relaxing together or singing Christmas Carols. The rooms main focal point and “star of the show” is the elegant Baby Grand Piano from the St. Louis World’s Fair during the late 19th century; we keep it tuned for some lucky pianist to tickle the ivories for your listening pleasure!

The formal Dining Room is elegance personified with custom banquette and matching chairs that surround a Grecian style urn base holding a round glass beveled edge table with an accompanying buffet server. The walls are rich in color and predominantly covered with beveled mirroring; all creating a feeling of opulence while the Empire Linen Chest finishes the effect as the room glows underneath an ornate crystal chandelier.

In every glance throughout the home, luxurious touches abound. Sterling silver and crystal serving pieces displayed for use with care. Original artworks adorn the walls while the beautiful heart pine floors are dressed in vintage oriental rugs for your comfort. The crystal chandeliers and ornate, one of a kind custom made lamps, all the lighting has been planned to perfection and most have dimmers to create the perfect mood just for you.

The newly remodeled main full bathroom features a glass walk-in shower and oversized imported Italian tiles creating a unique “Library” feeling. Take a seat on the custom built-in bench as you are surrounded by more nozzles and jets than you can imagine. Enjoy the comfort of heated floors to keep you comfortable as you step to and from the shower. All thought was geared for comfort and convenience when redesigning this space, so please, partake and enjoy!

Stainless steel appliances, white marble countertops, custom marble island with “raw edge” sits atop reclaimed vintage doors creating a magnificent statement in this chef friendly kitchen. The hanging copper pots are kept polished and gleaming, ready for use in a kitchen that has all the amenities you need to create breakfast, lunch or a dinner party whether you are preparing or planning.

The Master Bedroom located off the Living Room contains a king-sized bed dressed in beautifully luxurious linens to encourage a restful night’s sleep. The antique armoire holds extra linens and pillows should you require and a closet to hang your garments during your stay as our guest. Stored in the closet you will find a twin-size roll-away mattress bed that can be pulled out if desired.

Off the Master Bedroom and kitchen is the Media Room that can function as a 3rd sleeping room. A new, top of the line, sleeper sofa containing a queen size memory foam mattress make this extremely comfortable for 2 people to sleep. Linens are available for this as a sleeping accommodation. When in use as the Media Room relax on the sofa and additional seating provided as you watch the 55” flat screen TV. There is a printer and antique secretary for light work if you can’t escape the office.

Located off the Media Room is what would have been a maid’s room or nursery but now serves as our 2nd bedroom. White, cottage style designer bunk beds with twin mattresses create additional sleeping space for 2. This room is also the access to the 2nd full bath and laundry area where a washer and dryer are available for your use. The tub/shower combination and double lavatory make it convenient as a shared space.

Just out the kitchen screen door is the covered back porch exclusively for your use as our 1st floor guests. A cozy seating area with custom shade awnings to lower if needed are there for your comfort. Relax under the ceiling fan reading a delightful book or sipping that first cup of morning coffee as you hear the clip clop of horse hooves echoing the sounds of long ago as carriages roll by.

Step out in to the shared communal area courtyard to admire the gardens then when in season pick fresh limes from our tree; feel free to make use of the new “Egg BBQ Grill” too! Relax under the patio umbrella listening to the soothing sound of the antique Victorian fountain as your worries trickle away.

This is our HOME…we are looking for guests who will respect, take care of and appreciate that. Our collection of art, antiquities and sterling silver touches at every turn are for the discriminating few; guests who can appreciate what we offer and wish to experience real French Quarter living like a local in luxury.

*** ***The 1st floor and 2nd floor (VRBO listing #633488) can be utilized separately or together. Both are accessed by the main door of the home into a communal shared area where the staircase leads to the 2nd floor. Please inquire if you require both floors for your needs.

Location, Amenities ... All that you may need

  • 4 of 5

This property is really beautiful and perfectly located. Just close enough to everything but quiet enough to feel like you are away from the crowds when you need it. The property manager is wonderful, lives across the street and will do anything for you. The only reason that I did not rate a full 5 stars is the bedroom/bath setup. I just read through the online description again and I still feel it is a little misleading.

We rented the first floor property # 348055, which includes 3 ‘bedrooms’ and 2 full baths. Since this is the first floor of a large home, there are no real ‘bedrooms’. The ‘master’ has a king bed and is separated from the living room by enormous pocket doors. There is no ensuite. The second bedroom is accessed either through the master or from the kitchen. It has a pullout sofa. The third is a small room in back accessed via ‘bedroom 2’ with bunk beds and you reach the bathroom via that room. So, the only room with a bath connected is the bunk room.

The other of the two baths is actually in the main hall of the house, so you leave the dining room through a door into the hall and then enter the bath. It is recently done in a very nice, modern look but it is a bit of a walk from any bedroom. Also, there is a closet in the master but no others. We shared it out with the ‘den’ occupant and the bunk room made due by moving some stuff around.

So .. This worked for four of us because we have known each other forever and we travel well together. But I should point out that you are definitely in each other’s space a lot. Also, there were only four of us. The description says it could sleep eight which would be two in each room plus I don’t know what. There was a foldaway cot in our closet but I can’t imagine it sleeping two and I don’t know where you would put it.

If you look at the ‘Amenities’ section under property # 348055 it mentions 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms which I assume is where the ‘sleeps 8’ comes from. But the carriage house is included in that description which in my opinion adds confusion. The carriage house is an additional charge so your price point is very different. I’m not going to discuss price because everyone has a different way of assessing value, but I do think that the description could use some work on clarification.

Still … A beautiful property in what we felt was a perfect location.

Owner's Response: Our home is described perfectly as it is a very grand and large 200 year home On the best street in the French Quarter Royal Street. There are no ensuite in the baths off of the bedrooms as it is a antebellum masterpiece original home with everything up to date. In fact, the new Master Bath off the Hall will be in Architectural Digest this coming Fall. The 4th bedroom is in the carriage house and rents as a stand alone if desired with a full extra bath and in mint condition. Closets were not made 200 years ago so we have treasured Armoire's in the house to take their place. Please read the other 60 or more 5 STAR reviews . We remain a true French Quarter experience for the chosen few who understand our history of Historic Preservation in the French Quarter

Not great

  • 2 of 5

Great location but not as updated as I would've liked for the price. Caretaker was somewhat rude and not accommodating. We won't be coming back to this house

Owner's Response: The Friday night prior to this guests family wedding I received multiple noise complaints. It was for loud music and yelling in the courtyard where the registered guest was staying. I informed them that there was NO outdoor amplified music allowed that it was against the city ordinance. Yet they still played music over a speaker system they brought with them. They were asked to turn it off and they move their gathering to the front gallery so as not to further disturb the neighbors. Saturday night after the wedding from 11:30PM until 1:35 AM I received numerous calls from the neighbors regarding the loud music and voices. The music was much louder and the singing was loud karaoke. I live across the street and I could hear the music and voices clearly. The 1st and 2nd time I spoke directly with the guest and informed them that the music had to be moved indoors and the voices lowered. The 3rd time it was so loud I had to yell to be heard over the music and voices. The entire group was told that if they did not cease immediately and go indoors that I would be compelled to request they leave the home immediately and or call the police. I had to repeat myself numerous times so loudly that the closest neighbor could hear me trying to speak over the noise. All individuals associated with this event are not welcome under any circumstances ever again to the home. In reading our previous reviews it is obvious this is a 5 star home offering 5 star services with an accredited “Super Host” on another platform….and yes, we operate on a higher standard and hold our guest accountable and expect the same of them.

amazing location, wonderful rooms, and friendly hosts

  • 5 of 5

Samantha's place on Royal street is not only historical, but also kept up to date with wonderful facilities. As a first timer at New Orleans, I was fortunate enough to line up this location for my family. It's location is walking distances to all the fun, while quiet in the evening.

Samantha and Ina (the house manager) were super friendly, and they made us feel at home. They were ready to assist for any questions or inquiries, and they provided us with wonderful guidance on local must-sees and must-eats. They also connected us with Randall, who drove us to/from the airport. Randall is awesome, and he really knows New Orleans!

This is a wonderful place, and we are looking forward to coming back!

Perfect Property, Perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

As an employee of HomeAway I travel frequently and have stayed in dozens of properties across the United States, this 5-Star property on Royal Street is by far the most alluring property I have stayed in. From the freshly polished silver to the beautifully manicured French courtyard every spot of this property was absolutely stunning.

The booking process itself was made very simple by the owner of the property, once we arrived the house manager (Who lives nearby) was extremely helpful guiding us to parking, answering any questions we had about the property and area, and was willing to help us with any problems we encountered during our stay, she made our time at the property truly one of a kind.

Once settled in, just exploring the property was like going back in time. The beautiful piano, elaborate furniture and decorations, this property is a true reflection of old time French Quarter aristocracy. Very clean, very well maintained.

The large French courtyard was in full bloom and really complimented the property well, there were plenty of chairs for company and a great back drop for small events. This property is located right on Royal St, 1 block from the Bourbon St. and within walking distance to all activities and restaurants in the French Quarter. It was an amazing experience relaxing in the formal living room listening to the foot traffic of the locals on Royal St. The property comes with a very large marble antique bar complete with ice maker, bar stools, bar accessories like shaker cups, coasters etc. Great conversation piece and area to have a drink in.

Beautiful kitchen, lots of room, large island, large refrigerator. Great covered back porch area with rockers and couches that lead to the courtyard.

The pictures really do not do justice for this property; it is something you must see in person to really get the full experience. I would recommend this property to any family or friend planning to travel to New Orleans, my expectations were blown away

Thanks for sharing your home with my family, we had a great time!
