For Couples Desiring a Quiet Getaway
Dale and Vicki Strohmaier
About Dale and Vicki Strohmaier
Vicki and I live and work in Delaware, Vicki as a nurse liaison for our local hospital ER and I in custom home sales. We have been traveling to Maine off and on for the last 30 years, first staying in motels, then bed and breakfast and lastly in a cottage in Blue Hill we found on HomeAway. We have fantasized about owning a cottage in Maine and during each trip we scouted properties for sale. In 2010 we found Mill Cove Cottage on the internet and went to take a look at it during our fall trip. It was a mess! Weeds filled the lot, window panes were falling out, the roof was shot, there were no cabinets, it had an old gas range and bar sized refrigerator, a toilet and claw foot bath tub sat in the middle bedroom! But we fell in love with the location and the uniqueness of the cottage and settled on it in December. The challenge became how to transform this run down gem into a desirable retreat for couples wanting a special getaway, doing this from our home 700 miles away! By pure luck we found Marilyn (the property manager) and Arthur. Arthur was able to take our amateur drawings and sketchy ideas and work his magic. In the spring of 2011 we arrived to apply the finishing touches. In July of 2011 our first couple arrived. They were newlyweds! Mill Cove Cottage is designed, furnished and supplied for couples. There is no room for children, friends or in-laws. The couch is not a sleeper! It is a retreat, a getaway, a sanctuary. It is for getting to know each other better and for reflections of the past. It is for young or young at heart. It is for relaxing and exploring. It is for two people who want to spend time together.

Perfect Maine Vacation
We chose this location to be away from the bustle of BarHarbor yet close to Acadia National Park. We were not disappointed! It was perfect! Everything 2 people would need for a Maine experience is provided here including the lobster pot and the kayak. The view here is the best at sunset. I don’t believe it is possible to tire of this view. 5 stars
Beautiful, tranquil, amazing place for 2!
Such a perfect place for us to kick off our honeymoon. Beautiful, quaint little cabin is the perfect romantic getaway. Dale and Vicki were super responsive to our reservation emails and check in was a breeze. We loved the kayak and bedroom views the most. Would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful time at this cozy cottage. Having a view of the cove from the house, deck, and fire pit makes the property a five star location. The interior is well designed , comfortable, and clean.
Kitchen had everything we needed.
Dale and Vicki go above and beyond providing information and recommendations about the area.
Greatly appreciated having use of the kayak! We hope to return next year!

Excellent cottage home
This is truly a home away from home! Located with easy access to both sides of acadia, 2-11 minutes from shopping for supplies, but away from the crowds makes this ideal in location. Vicki and Dale do an amazing job with making sure you have everything you need and with many helpful suggestions of things to do and where to eat. The view is hard to beat from the deck, the home, or the firepit. If we return to acadia I would definitely stay here again!
First trip to Maine
We couldn’t have enjoyed the place more. If we didn’t have so much planned on the island we would have stayed at “home” by the water and fire pit more.
Perfect, Peaceful Location!!
This cottage is perfect in every way!! Dale and Vicki have thoughtfully supplied the cottage with everything you could possible need while away from home! They were the perfect hosts, even checking on us during our stay. The cottage is neat, clean, and exceeded our expectations! We spent every day exploring Acadia National Park. The location to Acadia was perfect for us, and we were the most pleased with the opportunity to get away from the crowds of Acadia and Bar Harbor and relax in the very peaceful setting of this cottage and the quaint town of Hancock!
Quiet setting, centrally located 30 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, Winter Harbor, Blue Hill and Bangor. Opportunities for new experiences are endless. Spend your days hiking, biking, whale watching or exploring the picturesque towns along Maine’s rocky coast. Or stay home and wander the woods, launch the kayak, go clamming or just read your favorite book. Good memories will come from your stay at Mill Cove Cottage.
