Had a wonderful week exploring Acadia and returning to this perfect property on the quieter side of the island. Beautiful sunsets every night

Summer Bliss

  • 5 of 5

Sunset Point Cottage was a outstanding location for a Mount Desert Island vacation. The private setting on the most quintessential Maine coastline provided both morning peace and beautiful evening sunsets. We could watch sunsets from the porch or the lawn or down close to the waters rocky coast. The house was well maintained, very clean and fully equipped. Two lobster and steamer dinners were enjoyed supplied by local lobsterman - a meal requiring a well equipped kitchen and supplies! We also found the "Quietside of the Island" to have the best weather as the Park was often fogged in, but when we headed over to the Park, much fun was had by all - hiking, painting, beaching. The house was also comfortable for being inside on rainy days or evenings bringing much family fun with cards and games and last resort, TV if desired. We would enjoy our mornings at the cottage, leave for the day to enjoy Acadia and return for afternoon and evening activity (other than one sunset on Cadillac Mountain). Everything is easy to get to from the cottage (be it Southwest or Northeast Harbors or Bar Harbor or the Park) and yet it is wonderful to be able to get away from the more crowded side. We very much enjoyed the Beehive Hike and Beech Mtn (close to cottage). One could also enjoy the entire day at the cottage complete with a pebble beach and swimming and kayaking opportunities. (Water was the warmest than any other spot!) After much experience with Home Away rentals, this one is a gem, accurately depicted, very well supplied with kitchen utensils, towels, soaps and very clean. The owners were very welcoming and friendly people and extremely attentive and caring about our family's personal needs and concerns. Highly recommend for a Downeast Maine! vacation!

Perfect place for a nice visit to Acadia

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in a perfect location for a balanced visit to Acadia National. Located on the quiet side of the island you can get away from the hubbub of the east side, but all services and great outdoor opportunities are a short trip away. The kitchen and dining area make for great meals in. The fireplace and porch set the atmosphere for beautiful sunsets. Exploring the cove at low tide was nice. We even saw a seal investigating the dinghies in the cove! The cottage is stocked with many items that you may not have remembered or thought you needed. Overall, it was a nice place and recommend it.

Unbelievably Perfect

  • 5 of 5

I am facing a dilemma as to whether to post a review or not - I don't want to compete with the rest of the world the next time we want to stay here! We stayed in the Sunset Point Cottage in late July/early August. It has amazing views of the bay, is totally private, and we loved the peace and quiet (even with two boys 14 & 12). The cottage was immaculate, thoughtfully and fully furnished, and supplied beyond expectations in the kitchen and bathrooms as well as little surprise’s such as hammocks, a cooler, and foosball table. The sunsets are amazing, directly over the bay out the front windows. My family always tries to avoid staying in hotels, and sometimes the places we stay are not what they claim to be but I must say that in all my years of travel. I have never come across such a well-equipped rental. The attention to detail was beyond compare. Peter was a wonderful and responsive host and we could not have wished for anything more wonderful than Sunset Point Cottage.

Love, Love, Love the Cabin.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect! We absolutely loved everything about this rustic cabin. Very well maintained and well equipped! The wildlife is abound, from the squirrels playing in the morning, seals in the cove at dawn and dusk, bald eagles and ospry flying over often and the loons with their very interesting noises at night. Perfect view morning noon and night! It is the perfect place to go where you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the rest of the island during the day and come back to complete peace and quiet at night! We will be back!

Better than Described

  • 5 of 5

The very best. Dock your kayak 30' from the house. Loons at night by the fire. The perfect house. All new appliances. Everything you could want. It's like your grandparents well equipped cabin-- a hammock, picnic equipment, foosball in the shed for the the kids. Water view everywhere. Bald Eagles abound!!!! We loved it and want to return.

Located at the end of a private drive on well sheltered Seal Cove, our secluded 20 acres of land also provides plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities. We have several hundred feet of private shore frontage with beach, ledges, and tidal pools for hours of exploring. Canoes and kayaks can be launched easily on our beach. Located across the cove is a well maintained public boat launch and dock for larger watercraft. Although you may not want to leave beautiful Seal Cove, you'll want to venture out, as the site-seeing and recreational opportunities abound on Mount Desert Island. We are located less than 10 minutes from the village of Southwest Harbor and about 20 minutes from Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Acadia National Park. There are endless mountains and trails to hike or bike, museums to visit, whale or bird watching, first class shopping and dining to experience, and excellent fresh and salt water fishing. For the golfing enthusiasts, close by in Southwest Harbor is the Causeway Club, a fun and scenic 9 hole course. For a bigger golf challenge, you can play the famous 18-hole Kebo Valley Golf Club in Bar Harbor. After a full day of island adventure, come back to a peaceful setting to prepare fresh seafood for dinner in our well equipped kitchen and enjoy a beautiful sunset while relaxing on our front porch overlooking Seal Cove and Blue Hill Bay..
