House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)
Complete self supporting home next to Mangrove Reserve. Home is Solar powered, water is collected rain water.
Unplug from your hectic life and smell the ocean, waves lapping the shore, listen to the sounds of the Mangrove reserve; the birds, geckos, and the wind blowing through the coconut trees. Watch Iguana's take in the afternoon sun, Herons patiently stand in the water and suddenly snap for lunch, march of the blue crabs at dusk, a squadron of Pelicans glide along the shoreline, skimming the treetops....
Lazily swing in one of 3 hammocks while listening to a rain burst, or to catch a breeze during a sunny afternoon. Keep a camera handy. The Osprey is quick.
The bird watching is most unique. In the house is 'The Birds of Belize', but keep it handy while on the deck.
Beautiful house on southern tip of island (village is on northern end). Watch the sunset from the front deck, or the sunrise from the back deck. Open floor plan, washroom (toilet/sink), lots of airflow from all 11 windows. House is tucked next to a mangrove reserve, so lots of bird and wildlife activity. It's 15 feet up, and catches every breeze.
Sit on the Crow's Nest and enjoy the unobstructed 360 view, lay in a hammock with a Belikin Beer or sit in the bar stools on the deck with dining rail and enjoy dinner by sunset.
Make a fresh rum drink with real banana's and pineapple in the hand crank blender!
Lay in the hammocks while streaming the internet to your devices. Go ahead, post pics to your social media and show your friends the sunsets....
Our caretaker, Cesar will meet you on the island (get there by plane or water taxi) and take you to the house and get you settled in. A local phone is provided to call caretaker during your stay. Any gratuity is between the guest and Cesar directly.
House has a full kitchen and there are several grocery stores on the island.
The house is on the south point of the island, the village is 1.4 miles away, which is 10-15 minutes by bicycle (a pair comes with the house for use by guests). Please neon a pair of head lamps to bike back from the village at night. There are no lights on the road and nocturnal blue crabs like to hang out on the road. They will move out of your way (just don't bike too fast!) From the crow's nest, you can see the village. It's not beachfront, but not much is on Caye Caulker (The Split on the north tip of the island is the public beach area), the shoreline at this part of the island is protected Mangrove shoreline.
The house is located next to a Mangrove Reserve. With the reserve comes wildlife of all kinds; Crocs can be heard splashing at night (they avoid you as much as you want to avoid them), birds of all kinds, crabs, iguana's, gecko's (some live in the house), dragon flies, and mosquitoes. The mosquitoes tend to come out an hour before and after sunset, when they are out during the day, the breeze on the decks keeps them away and there are anti mosquitoes burning coils inside the house and there is a net over the bed if needed.
To say this home is one of the most unique houses with breathtaking views on the island would be completely accurate.

Wife and I enjoy traveling around the world. Europe is always a must. In the states, we do road trips in our '67 VW Bus and hike with our Red Heeler.
Owner purchased this House in 2010
Why Owner chose Belize District
First visited Caye Caulker in 2006 and kept going back. Discovered the only things more beautiful than the scenery of Caye Caulker are the people of Caye Caulker. I designed this house based on the architecture of native islander homes and it was built last year.
What makes this House unique
Besides the sunsets, I really enjoy watching the wildlife. the variety of birds, (Herons, Ospreys, Roseate Spoonbill and more). This house is right next to the Mangrove Reserve, so the wildlife is abundant. My first morning in the house, I woke up to an Iguana on a branch looking in the window at me! This house is perfect for someone who is adventurous and wants to get unplugged but not too far away from the comforts of home,. Great snorkeling and the beauty of Belize. Use the basic telescope for stargazing, reference the book 'Birds of Belize' to identify the birds that you see from the deck. Make use of the small but growing personal library including 'Belize: Reefs, Rain Forests, and Mayan Ruins' Every morning my wife and I liked to drink coffee on the veranda and watch the birds fish for breakfast off the side of the house when the water was up, watch the ocean crabs, schools of fish, iguanas... we saw something new every day. I like to lay in one of the hammocks with a rum/fresh juice drink and read, but I find holding the book up to much work!

Awesome off-grid bungalow at the south end of the island
This property was a hidden gem tucked away from the crowds of town - we loved it! We enjoyed the 15min bike rides into town (roads are a bit rough, but that's the standard in Belize.) We also loved watching all the birds from the deck and crow's nest - we spent many evenings up top with drinks stargazing as well. The house is set up well - we do wish there were a few more lounge chairs on the decks to enjoy the view. Also, the outdoor cold shower is barely a trickle - though the caretaker, Cesar, was working on the water heater on our last day there, so that may have been fixed. Be sure to bring the bug spray! We got devoured by sand flies on the island and at the house. A great place to stay if you're looking for a bit of peace and relaxation!
Relaxing, remote getaway with all the right touches
We had such an amazing time staying at the Purple House! Mornings felt like we were waking up in a treehouse, with ocean breezes and birds chirping. We loved the outdoor shower and the crow’s nest. We used the bikes every day and had the best time on our rides to and from town. I’d recommend this retreat to anyone looking to stay away from the tourists and enjoy a refreshing, quiet escape!
This was an amazing house and location. The house is accessible by the local golf cart taxi service. You can get into town on the lovely beach side trail. The views from the his were breathtaking. Do your self a favor and book this now
My husband and I stayed at the Purple House in November for our 20th anniversary. The house was exactly as pictured. Michael and Eddie were a pleasure to work with and our stay was very relaxing and SLOW! I would highly recommend this property to those who want relax and take in the natural beauty of Caye Caulker. It matched every description. We enjoyed making fresh rum drinks with the hand crank blender (more than once). If you want to be away from the hustle and bustle then this place is for you. The sunsets from the crows nest will take your breath away. We can't wait to visit again
Great stay at the Purple House
We had a terrific holiday at the Purple House on Caye Caulker. The wildlife watching is one of the highlights, amazing birds....and other creatures. The house is built to catch the breezes (elevated), which makes keeping cool an easy task. The views are spectacular, particularly from the crow's nest. The people on Caye Caulker are very friendly and helpful, adding to the wonderful experience. Enjoy your stay....and remember, you better Belize it!
The Purple House on Caye Caulker Island, Belize, Caribbean
The Purple House at the southern end of Caye Caulker, Belize is one of the most magical places we have ever stayed at. If there were a wildlife bird sanctuary on Caye Caulker, it would be at The Purple House; if there were award winning sunrise and sunset photos of the Caribbean, they would be taken from the "Crows Nest" atop for The Purple House. I recommend this secluded, one bedroom, one bathroom, kitchen, shower, solar powered Jewel-in-Paradise for all pleasure seekers, adventurers, lovers and those seeking some peace and quiet off the beaten path, in an amazing surrounding. It's relatively new, everything works great, wi-fi good, even with a couple of bicycles to trek the mile or so into the village.
