In addition to the 36 holes at Troon (Monument and Pinnacle Courses) right in your back yard - Quintero, Grayhawk (Raptor or Talon), The Boulders, Tegavah (formerly Vista Verde) and Tonto Verde are some of our favorites. Not a golfer, no worries! Scottsdale is also home of the Barrett-Jackson, the 'World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions'. Baseball fan? Many teams hold their spring training in Scottsdale area as part of the 'Cactus League'. The area also boasts many wonderful hiking and horseback trails. Pinnacle Peak is a five minute drive and an easy hike and great way to start the day.
The shopping in Scottsdale is incredible. Old Town Scottsdale provides authentic southwest art at fine art galleries. Keirland Commons provides an incredible upscale shopping and dining experience. Looking for the real southwest cowboy experience? Don't miss the great town of Cave Creek - just a few miles north. You can find everything you'll need at the best cowboy outfitter in the area. Then you can head down to the Buffalo Chip to watch some bull riding and join in the country dancing.
Our home provides all of the amenities you could ask for in a vacation property. The views out the back patio and off the Master Bedroom are of the golf course and breathtaking mountains. Sunsets are awesome! Out the front balcony you have wonderful views of Pinnacle Peak. The Troon North Clubhouse is a 3 minute walk from the property. The pool, hot tub, ramada with barbeque pit, and exercise room are a short walk and are part of the "On the Green" community at Troon North.

We have been traveling to the 'Valley of the Sun' for over 10 years and always dreamed of owning a part of it. Friends often question why we love being in the middle of the desert. If you've never experienced it - it is hard to describe. It all starts with amazing blue skies and sunshine 98% of the time. The desert scenery is exquisite - from the saguaro cactus to the javalina - the desert provides some amazing sites. The golf is incredible and has everything to offer from traditional to desert courses. We are from the east cost and have played some nice golf along the coast. Now we have the best of both worlds - east coast and desert - each with their unique flavors. Speaking of flavors - we have found some of the best dining in the world in Scottsdale. Not to mention shopping. We love the architecture and wild west feeling just a bit north in Cave Creek. So much to see - so little time! We'd love to have you as our guests so you can experience the great southwest!
Susanne purchased this townhome in 2011
We purchased a property at this location because the golf course is the best we have played in the area. The views are amazing and the amenities cannot be beat. Being north of Scottsdale, it's just far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but very close to every thing you need.
Sunsets off the master balcony are awesome. Very quiet and relaxing area - but close to great restaurants and golf.
This was our first time using VRBO and we were thrilled with how seamless everything worked out. Susanne's place is beautiful and perfectly situated on the 9th hole at Troon North. Susanne is very accommodating and easy to deal with. The home is fully stocked with everything that you could need for the week. We took in a lot, an NFL football game, Glendale is a great area with all the shopping and restaurants, Carefree for a pumpkin tour, Cave Creek for bullriding, this was a total Western Town and a fun experience, a day in Old Scottsdale and a tour of ASU!. My husband and son enjoyed golfing at Troon and the Dynamite Grill is a great place for dinner and Happy Hour. Prices are reasonable and the service and views are amazing. We loved coming home at night to what we felt was our place for the week. My husband and I enjoyed coffee on the upstairs deck in the am and I loved hiking Pinnacle Peak early in the morning.
It was hard to leave but we look forward to another trip back next year! Thanks Susanne for sharing your home, we had the best week:)
Susanne's Scottsdale townhouse was just what the doctor ordered for our family vacation in June of 2016. The townhouse, at 2700 sqft, provided plenty of open space - beats a tiny hotel room! The home was beautifully decorated in a southwest modern scheme, and the comfortable furniture had us happily cheering on our hometown Sharks and Warriors during the playoffs.
Sure it's hot in Scottsdale in the summer, but we hiked (AM) every day anyway at nearby Pinnacle Peak (5 min) and not-too-far away McDowell Sonoran Preserve (15 min). Pinnacle Peak provides great views and is a more crowded, tourist-oriented trail - staffed visitors center, manicured trails, mile-markers, etc. but provides a great workout if you hike the full out-and-back.
The McDowell preserve, once past the visitor’s center, gives one a better sense that you are hiking out in the desert. Fewer hikers and a rougher terrain make for a great hike. The 4.7 mile loop provides great vistas and did me in - given the hot weather. Bring plenty of water!
We ultimately did not play any golf due to the high 100+ heat - other than a visit to "Top-Golf". The weather, by the way, was quite comfortable in the evening while we were there, due to the low humidity.
Susanne's living room fronted the Troon North golf course. Golf courses in the desert tend to support lots of wildlife - we regularly saw rabbits, quail, roadrunners, lizards (including the larger chuckwalla), and chipmunks. No bobcat sightings tough!
My wife and I are looking to retire to Scottsdale in a few years, and "try out" different locations every year or two. The Troon North location on the surface appears to be far out there away from the edges of civilization. In fact the nearest Supermarket/shopping center is about 5 miles away, although getting there won't take more than 10 minutes as you are travelling at highway speeds. A smaller shopping center only a mile away has a Walgreens and a few restaurants. It's about a 10-mile trip to get to a shopping area with department stores (Target, Kohls) and such - Frank Lloyd Wright and 101.
If you like to have a place where you can walk or bike to a local coffee or bagel shop, this isn't it, but for a 1-week vacation, Susanne's location and comfortable townhouse can't be beat! We will definitely consider staying here again in the future, and potentially moving to this community in retirement!
We had a wonderful time at this Troon North Condo. It was a spacious and well appointed home. The golf course and grounds were impeccably maintained. The location put you just outside of the normal Scottsdale traffic headaches, yet close enough to restaurants and shops. Cave Creek and Carefree around the corner to the north offers a quaint and relaxed atmosphere. The owners were responsive and helpful. A very easy, relaxed and fun vacation.
We stayed 4 nights in July and wore out the local golf courses. Susanne was very nice and accommodating. The house was great and is extremely convenient if you are playing at Troon North. The master bedroom has a great view overlooking the 9th fairway. The trip was fantastic, golfers paradise for sure!
Four of us stayed for 11 nights in January and the townhouse was perfect for us. It was so nice to come back to a home and not a hotel room after a long day of golfing. The house has everything you could possibly need for cooking, lots of towels and the barbeque was where we cooked the majority of our dinners. Staying right on the golf course was great, the views were great and it was fun watching people golf, I discovered there are other people just as bad as me. The master bedroom is so awesome that one couple stayed in it 1/2 the trip then we switched so we could all enjoy it. I would highly recommend the restaurant at the Troon Clubhouse, the food was great and reasonably priced. We golfed the Troon Monument course and it was beautiful but my favorite was Quintero, we golfed it twice. Tonto Verde has a beautiful clubhouse and for the price I enjoyed the golf course. Susanne is great to work with. I highly recommend this to anyone, we hope to make it back again some day.
We had a great time. We didn't play golf because we didn't know we could but the golf course looked wonderful. We had a lot of nice walks around the property and ate at the club restaurant which was also very good. Lovely views from the property and nice layout. We would definitley go again. The owner was very easy to deal with.
