About Louie Austin

I purchased our cabin after looking at over 200 cabins in the surrounding area. It was love at first sight, I knew I had stumbled on a little piece of heaven. My two Jack Russell's Daisy and Lucky do absolutely love the cabin. When we arrive ,Daisy jumps our of the car, runs right down to the lake and goes for a swim.We are excited to share this experience with you.

Louie Austin purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Louie Austin chose Northwest

Super location only 1.5 hrs ( aprox 90 miles) from Minneapolis MN . The perfect distance, just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but close the town of Siren ( 5 miles). Siren has shops, mini golf, indoor ice skating, the DQ, there are many antique shops, great restaurants, hiking and biking trails.

What makes this cabin unique

Like being on Golden Pond. I fell in love with the cabin and setting the moment we walked in. Its my favorite place in the world. Built by a Norwegian Craftsman, the stone fireplace and tongue and grove cedar paneling are reminiscent of an era gone bye. Peaceful and quite , you can hear the loons call at night. Tons of windows, warm summer breezes , moon lit nights. On a sun lit morning, laying in bed you can see the reflection of the water dance on the ceiling over head. Beautiful crystal ,clear, water, great for swim on a warm summers day.

Fun & Relaxing

Our family had a fun and relaxing time! Lake is small and private but spacious enough to enjoy boating. The cabin is very well kept and Louie was great to work with!

We loved this cabin so much. We will most definitely consider renting here again. Lake was peaceful, cabin was clean, beds were soft, and owners were polite and friendly. Siren is a great town with friendly people and activities for kids. We've rented many cabins through vrbo and this one has raised the bar.

The lake and area are nice, the cabin is so/so and overpriced

  • 2 of 5

It was tough to communicate with the owner. It took numerous emails and phone calls to make and confirm the reservation. We were first sent a contract that had completely different charges and none of the totals added up. Then we were sent a contract that had different charges than the website - weekly rent was higher and a cleaning charge was added. When I pointed this out the owner was pleasant, but said he would waive the cleaning charge only if we left the cabin "clean." When we arrived the cabin wasn't very clean - lot's of dust, stove was dirty, cabin smoked in even though description says smoking is prohibited. Upon arrival we were told we would have to take our garbage with us when we left.?? There were four bags of old garbage in the outside storage area that smelled and animals had gotten into.?? The cabin had a large amount of liquor in a kitchen cabinet as well as beer in the fridge.?? Six days into our stay a plumber arrived to fix the broken shower. It was weird since we weren't expecting him, but he stated the owner assured him we knew he was coming. Lucky we were there or he couldn't get it. The lake is nice and the canoe was fun. Take into account that the walk from the cabin to the lake is down a very long and very steep stairway.

Owner's Response: I personally clean the cabin myself.I take extra care and time make sure every detail is perfect. I personally meet every guest when they arrive, walk them through the cabin show them how things work. These particular guests were by far the dirtiest I have ever had. As a favor to them, to make their vacation more affordable, I waved the cleaning fee because they were on a tight budget . Never again will I do that . I did tell them at the time of reservation if I was to waive the cleaning fee they would be responsible for taking their garbage with them, which they did not. In addition, they showed up early on check in day. I explained to them that the plumber was just at the cabin and would be returning later in the week to install a new valve for the shower. Some people just don't pay attention. The liquor is located in a hidden cabinet which you have to really look for to find. It is unnerving to know that people who ask for a deal are also snooping through your cabin and your personal belongings. I guess that is what happens when you try to help a family on a budget , when you try to be the good guy. All of the other guest we had this summer were great! Three families have asked to stay the same week next summer and would like to reserve in advance.

A Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience using VRBO. It was awesome. The description of the cabin on the lake, in the woods, was accurate, and the cabin itself was perfect. It was comfortable, cozy, homey, clean, and well-situated. Favorite part was the hammock strung between the pines, big enough for two. We took the canoe on the lake for an afternoon, and enjoyed the sounds of the loons and other critters at night. The lake itself is good-sized, and there are plenty of trees and peacefulness. There was a perfectly-sized kitchen well-stocked with equipment, and cozy living areas for relaxing. We did not make use of the outdoor grill, or fire pit with swing for two, but both were a great additions. Clean linens were provided, and the owner, who personally met us and showed us around, made us feel very welcome to make oursleves at home in his cabin. All in all, we could not have asked for more. Siren is a beautiful area - we hiked, biked, and kayaked by day, and totally relaxed in the comfortable cabin by night. We will definitely return.
