About gretchen evans

Ben grew up in the area but lived in NY for 10 years. I, Gretchen, am from Minnesota and have lived many places, including Germany. Our 5 kids were all born in Seattle and still wince when the sun comes out.

gretchen evans purchased this estate in 2007

Why gretchen evans chose Woodway

We fell in love with this property the first time we stepped foot on the land. We knew that one day our kids would run and play among the trees and fall asleep listening to owls at night. We spent 2 years building our custom home.

What makes this estate unique

We love our home for the comfort it offers, of course the little luxuries, like radiant heat floors, but also the warmth that comes from the furnishings and little details. As a designer I feel personally tied to all the decisions and I love the way it turned out. Nothing is too stuffy, the kids art hangs on the walls next to well respected artists.

Map

This home is located in the private town of Woodway. Called 'the quiet place', Woodway is home to 2 acre properties and as the name suggests, many trees. it is a haven for runners, walkers and bird enthusiasts.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for a week in July 2017. We were completely blown away by this home and couldn't give it a higher recommendation. First of all, the neighborhood of Woodway is SO charming. Every (amazing) home is nestled in the woods, surrounded by amazing 60 ft tall 100+ year old redwood and pine trees. The home is close to a cute little downtown area with great restaurants, shops and parks. My kids (ages 13, 9, 3, 1) loved the backyard and it's amenities. We bought some yard games and spent hours back there playing badminton, frisbee, tag and hide and go seek. The tree swings were a big hit! After returning home my kids begged me to hang one in our backyard (a project that is currently in progress). We loved the outdoor fireplace and spent most evenings back there after the kids were in bed.

The home itself is absolutely beautiful. Gretchen has done an AMAZING job with every little detail. My wife joked (half joked) that we were going to have to hire their designer when we returned home - then we find out Gretchen is actually the designer!

Thank you so much for the amazing stay, Gretchen! We will be in touch about a home remodel in Columbia, MO soon I am sure :)

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing home! There was a lot of room for our children to run and play outside. Not to mention, a playhouse, tire swim and playground equipment. The house is beautiful and perfect for our family.

World-class accomodation, on every level.

  • 5 of 5

Where to begin? Gretchen and Ben have built a precious gem in an excellent neighborhood. We hosted a reunion for family and friends here, and the house was a stunning complement to the quality of the amazing guests who came from around the world for our special week. Every detail is intentional, beautiful. The pictures sort of tell the story - but they really only undersell this amazing property. The quality of the house and the grounds is stunning. Being in the space is like waking up to inspiration - this house has charisma. I can't say enough about how great it was to spend a week in this gorgeous house and on such a beautiful property. I'm looking fwd to doing it again here for our next reunion. Five stars are not enough.

Fantastic stay in Woodway

  • 5 of 5

The Woodway House was truly a wonderful experience. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into making this home as comfortable as possible for their guests. They were very attentive & quickly responsive. It is relatively close to downtown, about a 20-30 minute drive depending on the traffic. We especially loved the grounds - a play structure for the toddlers & a tree swing for our school age daughters. The hot tub & covered lounge area with outdoor fireplace were a bonus for all of us. We highly recommend it!

beautiful home, wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

The Woodway home is very lovely - quite spacious, high ceilings, beautiful furnishings and woodwork, and very clean. The kitchen is quite large and well stocked with whatever pans etc. you need. The kitchen, dining and family room areas are open to each other, and are a wonderful place to hang out and socialize. The grounds are also very pretty with super tall pine trees and colorful hydrangeas. The outdoor sitting area is really comfortable as well; part of it is under a roof near an outdoor fireplace. We all found the beds to be very comfortable. We would definitely love to stay there again.

Impressive - Best Value Hands Down

  • 5 of 5

I rarely write reviews, so I'll keep this short. The home looks every bit as kept and beautiful as the pictures portray. The rear area is a haven for children and outdoor enthusiast. The craftsmanship and details in both the structure and furnishings are evident to the naked eye. Many of the homes accoutrements are designed for both luxury and comfort. This is a gorgeous property.

As background, we shared this home with my college roommate and his family. Together we had four adults and three children ages 2, 5, and 5. The children enjoyed the large expanse of grass and towering trees, rope swings, playground, and playhouse in the enormous rear area. This area gives the feeling of seclusion as neighboring homes are not immediately visible. The home is also set back from the street on a long gravel driveway, further enhancing the premise of isolation and exclusivity.

The home itself has a wonderful feel and natural flow to it, affording areas of activity and relaxation in a communal setting. The children loved the nooks and niches in each of the children's rooms, allowing them to spend ample time in these areas while the adults relaxed and caught up elsewhere. The bedrooms themselves were each beautiful and functional. The master bath is unmatched in workmanship, fixtures and detail. With sunshine bathing and accentuating the great room, I cannot think of a more comfortable setting for relaxing, playing board games, or simply and quietly drinking your morning coffee.

I cannot speak more highly of the kitchen and utilities. Every piece of equipment was top notch, from the appliances to the included silverware and platters. We decided to cook or barbeque for breakfast and dinner each day. Three to four adults in the kitchen, working on various dishes, never once bumped into each other or had to say, "excuse me" to get by. There is literally a hundred square feet of counter space - or at least it felt like it. There is a separate niche for beverages, including all the machines you could imagine a proud barista would own.

We could easily have never left this home, but it was the first visit to the area for our guests, so the requisite trips the Space Needle and downtown were in order. Without traffic it is a bout a 25 minute drive into downtown. With traffic, who knows...we never hit traffic.

All in all, the value can't be beat. Much roomier than a hotel and you just can't beat the amenities.
