About Owner/Property Manager Tracee Lorens
I am the Great grand daughter of Gus and Anna Spitzmiller, original Pioneers to Grand Lake. Gus was a plumber and his son Gordon married my Grandma Barbara. My dad, Chris Lorens, left the property to me when he died in 2008, and I have been making it 'top flight' since. I am a proud Colorado Mountain Woman, who now resides in San Diego, but spends lots of time where my roots are, i.e. Grand Lake.
Owner/Property Manager Tracee Lorens purchased this Cabin in 1910
Why Owner/Property Manager Tracee Lorens chose Grand Lake
It is full of soul and history and it is sooo beautiful!!! Sits on colo river where it enters Shadow mtn. lake. I bet the Ntl Forest and Park Service--who own all the bordering land--wish they had taken this side of the river too, when they confiscated the Park land up here in the early 1900's. You can also rent the 2 other cabins and have a family reunion. They are VRBO #'s 510789 & 454309.
What makes this Cabin unique
Fully remodeled and luxury--through and through. There really is not a property that compares in the Grand Lake region. Because you are on a 6 ac. meadow bordered by the river and lake--and have all protected land across from you--there really isn't a location in the entire County that compares with this one! The view alone is irreplaceable. In total we have 3 cabins--on 6 ac--a 1-bedroom VRBO # 510789, this 2-bedroom, and a 3 bedroom # 454309. We also own the lakefront home adjacent to this property VRBO # 490482.

The cabin and the setting were great. The cabin was rustic with nice updates and clean.
This was our first time using Homeaway, and the pictures and reviews are really what swayed us to select this property. We made the right choice, the cabin had evening that we needed and wanted.
The setting was great being right next to the Colorado River feeding into Shadow a Mountain Lake. They have several different sitting places near the river with fire pits which was really nice on a chilly, September night. The view of the stars was outstanding as well. There were signs of elk in the attached meadow but unfortunately we did not see any.
The cabin was rustic with an updated kitchen and bathroom. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The cabin is just of the highway, but it is far enough away that we could not hear road noise.
My only regret was that my stay at the cabin was not longer.
Thank you and we are glad you enjoyed our cabin.
Please come back any time.
Cabin was cozy and comfortable
The back porch was a great spot to listen to the Colorado river and look at the snow covered mountains. A night with the full moon a moose with her baby passed right by the cabin next to the river around 9:00pm, very excited to see them but need to keep your distance. Loved the kitchen with the gas stove and all the windows to look out at the river. The bedrooms where great with very comfortable mattresses and the bathroom shower was perfect. Very glad they had a washer/dryer since we were there 9 days. The best was the wood burning fireplace that we had every night. The wood is on the back porch and roasted marshmallows tasted great. We were their the last week in April beginning of May so the weather was still cold. One morning we woke to a winter wonder land with about 4 inches of snow. We were there for the fly fishing so we headed out into the snow and caught about 10 rainbow trout in the snow! The downside was the Rocky Mountain National Park was only open for 10 miles because there were 10 - 20 ft drifts of snow at the top and some of the stores downtown Grand Lake did not open until Memorial Day. Since we are from Florida it was nice to catch some cold weather and have my husband see snow fall for the first time. Great place and beautiful mountains!
Our family found it a calming/relaxing environment. We were close to Grand Lake and Rockie Mountains
We were able to walk on many trails in the area and see the beautiful views. The house/cabin was well equipped. I would recommend the place to stay. Oh we saw a moose 2 times, once with in 20 feet of cabin.
Perfect place for a Mother's Day retreat!
We are so glad that we moved our annual Mother's Day weekend in Grand Lake to this charming cabin and its lovely surroundings! We were thrilled to see moose in the yard the first evening we were there, and 3 more the next morning! Right outside our cabin! We loved the amount of windows to view these magnificent creatures from a safe distance. Meals were enjoyed on the deck by the river, and at the table out in the yard where could hear the rushing waters of the snowmelt. The cabin is very quiet and so peaceful, with stunning views all around us. The beds were sooooo comfy!! Everything we needed was there for our use. Lovely welcoming touches greeted us upon our arrival. We really want to make this our regular Grand Lake retreat. It seems like this cabin, #3, is the best of the three...but I hate to say that in case the secret gets out. The neighbors next to us in #2 were very happy with their accommodations as well. We will be back. Thank you Tracee!!
Great weekend getaway!
The property was cozy and the views were beautiful! The booking was easy and the cabin had everything we needed. We will definitely come back!

Host has supplied the necessities to make stay-home cooking a pleasure, or to relax in the home with a winter fireplace!
The place Has such a home-feel that we love. Caitie the Managet was lovely! She was prompt to respond to our queries and would do follow up to ensure we are ok. Sweet lady!
i recommend this place and would love to revisit!
The property faces the Colo river where it meets the wetlands and Shadow Mtn. Lake. You look to open Forest Service land and then gorgeous, snow-covered peaks along the continental divide. Kayak or canoe ( equipment included on us) with the Osprey, or use our paddle boat or reading dock, with zero gravity reclining chairs, located right where the river enters the lake, with the best view in Grand County. The town borders Rocky Mtn. National Park and is located on the highest natural glacier- formed lake in Colo, and has the highest yacht club in the world.
