About the Property
UNIQUE 2 BEDROOM GEM SPARKLING IN SRAWLING CANYONS, 8 MINUTES TO THE BEACH
Located 15 minutes from the beach and surfing hot spots, nestled in between Malibu (15 minutes,) Pacific Palisades (10 minutes,) Santa Monica (15 minutes,) and the Valley (20 minutes.)
The property is surrounded by a lovely fenced yard, harboring a growing orchard, an herb garden, and vegetable planters , crowned by a gazebo with a swinging couch and garden chairs. The main entrance opens to a rock garden with a fountain. Facing it is the front porch with cushioned wicker chairs providing relaxation at any time of day or night.
The house features a high ceiling with exposed beams, bamboo floors, and sage color carpet in the bedroom harmonizing Nature and hOMe. The space is well designed and enlightened by a warm glow recessed lighting system on a dimmer that creates even more special moments of relaxation. It has an eclectic feel with flavors of Asia, India, Africa and France, inviting simplicity and serenity.
It is proudly erected on a rugged canyon terrain, yet comfortable with amenities of modern life. High tech kitchen with country accents (see detail below,) central heating system, shower/bath, fireplace, home theater with DVD player, surround sound, wireless FIOS Internet. I am also happy to accommodate infants and toddlers needs.
You walk into a warm open space featuring various environments that blend harmoniously into each other: Living room facing the fireplace and a pull down home theater screen. On the right side is a beautiful armoire that opens into an office for the business traveler. It has a printer, scanner, shredder, and desk area. On the left is the dining area overlooking the herb and vegetable garden, growing orchard and gazebo.
From the dining area, you walk into a well appointed kitchen on the right. You should find everything you need and more: blender, juicer, food processor, bread machine, Fondue set, crepe maker, toaster, 3 types of coffee machine for the connoisseur (French press, drip, Presto electric,) tea pot, electric and stainless steel old fashion kettles. Cookery is included. Anything else you might need is probably there for the asking. The kitchen has two windows into the world of nature. It feels perched in the trees.
The kitchen door opens onto a red brick terrace, with two patio chairs and a small round table. There is a planter (with seasonal vine-type vegetables for your enjoyment) dividing the main house from the bungalow.
There are four dining areas: the front porch is facing east, good for breakfast, while the red brick terrace is perfect for lunch time; the gazebo is pleasant in mid afternoon for tea or coffee break; if you prefer to stay inside, the dining area has a large wooden table accommodating up to 6 persons.
The two bedrooms are on the right of the living room; across, is a full bathroom with a view from the shower and bathtub.
The first bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with a Tempurvedic mattress and high quality pillows. One window has morning sun, the other the moonlight. It has enclosed shelves, a vanity area and a large mirror.
The second bedroom has a king size bed, which can also be configured with 2 twin size beds in an L bracket. A wall closet includes a rustic chest of drawer and a mirror.
Both bedrooms are bright and temperate, each window with a stunning view of nature. The maximum occupancy of 4. High quality linen, towels, basic toiletries are all included.
You can expect cleanliness, quietness, comfort, and beauty where nature and civilization work together.
The days weave a visual tapestry of trees and vegetation, including California Oaks, Olive trees, fern, massive boulders and wild flowers. The nights orchestrate a symphony of frogs and crickets, conducted by owls. A wide variety of wild life reclaims its territory beyond the wooden fence.
And sheltering it all, the sky will often dazzle the stargazer.
This is a good place to take a break from the city and the busy-ness of life, where you can be as secluded, and creative, and/or as social as you wish. It also offers a perfect balance between being active in the outdoors and still at home.
This is a well cared home and property. It gives me great pleasure to share them through HOMEAWAY/VRBO for short term vacations (up to 25 days.)

About the owner: Born and raised in France, I am a linguist, love all languages and cultures. I practice yoga, hike, dance, write. I love the homes I have created for myself, enjoy maintaining them and am constantly beautifying them for myself and all who visit. The house if private on a two lot property. I live on the second lot beyond the wooden fence surrounding the rentable area, and am quick to respond if needed. As my guests, you might enjoy special details within my homes and property. It is a joy to share the beautiful surrounding I live in and lifestyle they afford. My last big voyage was a two month journey through Nepal, India and Sri Lanka with my youngest daughter living in Australia, an exotic mother-daughter reunion.) Now planning a family reunion in my natal south of France with my three children and two grandsons. Since I started hosting , I have enjoyed guests from various States and countries; the world coming to me in this way, and being part of Los Angeles where all cultures are represented, I feel I don't need to travel that much anymore. Hosting is a creative expression for me, spanning the fields of service, interpersonal relations, cultural exchange. I have enjoyed visitors from China, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, England, Switzerland, and the United States.
Why the Owner Chose Fernwood, Topanga, CA, USA:
This is a unique property in that it is small yet well designed, with many different environments, both inside and outside. It is centrally located and easily accessible - no long winding canyon roads to contend with - completely surrounded by nature, and in the climate perfect part of the canyon. The house is modern with loads of vintage charm. It has the best of all worlds: canyon setting, yet close to the ocean; secluded, yet within minutes to civilization. It invites a healthy lifestyle in an eclectic community. The house is simple, comfortable, tastefully designed, and well-cared for.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
