Your cares dissolve away as warm sun and soothing surf caress your mind and body on the unique ironwood-framed teak lanai in your comfortable teak steamer chairs. Enjoy the brilliant blue skies, colorful Hawaiian reef fish, green sea turtles, Humpback whales, spinner dolphins and surfers right from your lanai. In the quiet evening, relax on your lanai and experience the amazing reds and oranges of a spectacular Kona sunset as the huge orb descends into the sea through the softly waving palm fronds. Sleeping arrangements include a king-size bed in the oceanfront master bedroom and twin beds in the second bedroom. The living room pune (Hawaiian sofa/couch) is actually a second pair of twin beds. The unit sleeps four persons privately (two in the master bedroom and two in the second bedroom) or six if you use the pune.

Resort amenities include free parking, elevator, a large swimming pool with deck chairs and tables, hot tub/spa, comfortable lobby with wireless Internet, concierge desk for Big Island activities, oceanfront gas barbecues, oceanfront lounge chairs on the beach, numerous shallow lava tide pools with green sea turtles, Da Poke Shack (a very popular restaurant for poke), Miller’s Surf Shop (surfing, diving and snorkel gear), on-site security and convenience store (with alcohol sales) across the street. About Mike Gaudette

We are native Oregonians and began vacationing in Hawaii about 20 years ago. We loved the islands so much we came back more and more often. We initially bought a one-bedroom condo in 2006 at Kona Bali Kai, across the street from the beach with no ocean view. We live on the Oregon coast, but rarely go to the beach; so, when we decided to buy a larger condo we wanted to be right on the beach - and you can't get any closer than our condo at Kona Bali Kai. We love sharing Hawaii with our kids, grandkids and many friends.

Why Mike Gaudette chose Kona Coast

We live on the often rainy Oregon coast and didn't want to come to Hawaii and be in the rain. The dry Kona coast is perfect for our vacations. And the nearly constant trade winds keep our condo cool day and night. Kona Bali Kai is perfectly situated along Ali'i Drive. It's close enough to old town Kailua-Kona for a refreshing walk into town, but not close enough to have a lot of unwanted traffic or commercial activity. And, of course, you can't get any closer to the beach than at the Kona Bali Kai and where else can you watch surfers and sea life all day long from your lanai?

What makes this condo unique

We love our 4th floor unit with open-beam ceilings that create a feeling of spaciousness We love that the 12' doors separating the living room from the master bedroom disappear completely into the wall during the day (no other unit at Kona Bali Kai has this feature) so that there is a panoramic view of the ocean and surfers from anywhere in the unit. We love the way the sun sets every night right between the palm trees off our lanai and how we can sit on the lanai and watch surfers, whales (in season) and turtles. One of the most unusual features of our unit is the teak lanai framed in Hawaiian ironwood and bamboo hardwood floors throughout the unit.. The newly remodeled master bath and walk-in shower features your choice of an adjustable shower head on the wall or a drenching rain head in the ceiling, dual cabinets and sinks, and an elongated toilet. We love to play games and spend time at the beach in Hawaii, so the unit is fully equipped with games and beach accessories, including children's play toys.

Perfect and then some

From the moment you open the door and look straight thru the condo to the ocean you feel good things await you. The condo itself was spotless. It had everything you need from a well stocked kitchen to very nice furnishings. Loved that washer and dryer. The lanai was my spot. Starting with morning coffee and ending with and evening libation. To lay on the lounges during the day listening to the waves the stress just disappeared. Looking for sea turtles was an everyday event. Watching surfers and boogie boarders was amazing. The complex is well kept and secure. Mike does a good job maintain the condo. I know the salt air is relentless in weathering things quickly. Would stay there again.

Amazing front row ocean views

The lanai and it's views were by far the high point of our stay. Surfers everyday, sea turtles, gorgeous ocean water colors, and amazing sunsets. You can never get enough. This lanai was front row.

Amazing view. Really enjoyed the location.

The condo had everything we needed and is well appointed and clean. Would happily stay again if ceiling fan is fixed. The ceiling fan in the bedroom didn't work which made for pretty hot nights in the smaller second bedroom. Our son didn't sleep well as a result. Mike was advised about it on day one.

Owner's Response: I am glad that you appreciated the amenities in the condo and the wonderful view of the ocean during your three-night stay. I'm sorry that we weren't able to fix the ceiling fan immediately. I was notified about 6:00 pm that the ceiling/fan wasn't working. A replacement part was purchased the next morning but the maintenance staff wasn't able to install it until late the next day. Unfortunately, the replacement part didn't fix the problem (about 5:00 pm, after the guests had already departed). I purchased a new fan that night to replace the one that didn't work.

Wonderful view and convenient location!

Although there's much to see and do on the Big Island of Hawaii, it was difficult for us to pry ourselves from the lovely lanai and view from this condo. The condo itself is quite comfortable and was stocked with the basics to make it our second home for 10 days. Mike was helpful from the beginning of the booking process throughout our stay - especially that first day when we arrived all exhausted and I was having trouble finding the key code! Yes, the pool area needs to be updated which we hear is coming but we wanted beaches so never used it. In fact, this unit is far away from the chattering of the children in the pool - we heard only waves and sea breezes in the condo and on the lanai. Lovely stay, thanks Mike!

The sound of the waves below the lanai and the rustle of the breezes in the palm trees are wonderful for relaxing. The pool at the condo is scheduled for renovation later this year, but many guests want to spend their time at the beach.

Had fantastic 15 nights in Kona! Great location and nicely decorated condo.

Kona Bali Kai 405 was very roomy for 2 people. Was in contact with the owner several times to rectify various problems. Condo could use a thorough cleaning and replacement and addition of kitchen contents. WiFi needs replacing.Mike was responsive to our concerns and committed to addressing them. Sunsets were spectacular from the lanai! The sea turtles and surfers right in front of the condo kept us entertained throughout our stay. Thanks Mike for all the Big Island information you provided us in the condo. Certainly assisted us in enjoying everything the Big Island has to offer!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you had a great experience watching the turtles, surfers and sunsets from the lanai. It can sometimes be challenging to do a deep cleaning between back-to-back guests (only five hours to turn the unit around), but it is still always our goal to meet guests' expectations. We have addressed specific areas with our long-term housekeeper and are contracting with an additional cleaner for scheduled deep-cleaning. Although we try to make sure we have a wide variety of kitchen amenities, they sometimes break, disappear or are damaged. We review every item in the unit every six months and replace or upgrade items needing attention. We appreciate feedback from guests between our visits so we can correct any deficiencies and make sure your visit is perfect. Guest recommendations for additional amenities are always welcome; we want you to feel at home! After several years of reliable service, the wifi router apparently began working intermittently. It has been replaced. We are glad guests are able to take advantage of all the information and amenities we provide to have a wonderful vacation on the Big Island.
