About the property

Oceanfront, 2 BR, 2 BA, Sleeps 6, Short Stay Specials from $100/night-call owner

This desirable oceanfront penthouse unit (with elevator) features spacious open beam ceilings and is only 30 feet from the gentle surf lapping directly below the lanai, where surfers launch into the spectacular blue waves of Banyans Beach, one of Kona’s most popular surfing spots. This beautifully remodeled and furnished condo features an oceanfront living room and master bedroom with unparalleled 180 degree ocean views and access to spectacular Kona sea life and sunsets. Your cares dissolve away as warm sun and soothing surf caress your mind and body on the unique ironwood-framed teak lanai in your comfortable teak steamer chairs. Enjoy the brilliant blue skies, colorful Hawaiian reef fish, green sea turtles, Humpback whales, spinner dolphins and surfers right from your lanai. In the quiet evening, relax on your lanai and experience the amazing reds and oranges of a spectacular Kona sunset as the huge orb descends into the sea through the softly waving palm fronds. Luxuriate in the newly remodeled master bathroom and shower with multiple shower heads, double sinks and contemporary tile work. The beautiful bamboo hardwood floors throughout, well stocked kitchen with granite countertops and contemporary cabinets and upscale Hawaiian-themed furnishings will make you wish you never had to leave. During the day, slide the 12’-wide doors between the master bedroom and living room into the wall pocket to enjoy an unrestricted panoramic ocean view from throughout the living area. At night, leave the lanai doors open in the oceanfront master bedroom and living room and be lulled to sleep by the ceaseless caress of the waves on the worn lava rocks below. Gentle ocean breezes keep you cool day and night whether snoozing on the lanai, entertaining friends in your oceanfront paradise or sleeping soundly in your king-size bed (click on 'More Details' to see all the unit amenities).

Amenities include free in-unit password protected WiFi and internet access, full-size washer and dryer, coffee grinder, large and small ice chests, frozen ice packs, beach chairs, beach towels, beach mats, boogie boards, snorkel gear, children’s beach toys, two pack ‘n plays, popular board and table games, puzzles, BluRay DVD players, 3 flat screen TVs, stereo with iPad/iPhone/iPod docking station, iron and ironing board, safe, and wall-mounted hair dryers.

Sleeping arrangements include a king-size bed in the oceanfront master bedroom and twin beds in the second bedroom. The living room pune (Hawaiian sofa/couch) is actually a second pair of twin beds. The unit sleeps four persons privately (two in the master bedroom and two in the second bedroom) or six if you use the pune.

Resort amenities include free parking, elevator, a large swimming pool with deck chairs and tables, hot tub/spa, comfortable lobby with wireless Internet, concierge desk for Big Island activities, oceanfront gas barbecues, oceanfront lounge chairs on the beach, numerous shallow lava tide pools with green sea turtles, Da Poke Shack (a very popular restaurant for poke), Miller’s Surf Shop (surfing, diving and snorkel gear), on-site security and convenience store (with alcohol sales) across the street. The resort does not allow smoking in any public areas and our unit is also non-smoking.

About Mike Gaudette

We are native Oregonians and began vacationing in Hawaii about 20 years ago. We loved the islands so much we came back more and more often. We initially bought a one-bedroom condo in 2006 at Kona Bali Kai, across the street from the beach with no ocean view. We live on the Oregon coast, but rarely go to the beach; so, when we decided to buy a larger condo we wanted to be right on the beach - and you can't get any closer than our condo at Kona Bali Kai. We love sharing Hawaii with our kids, grandkids and many friends.

Mike Gaudette purchased this condo in 2007

Why Mike Gaudette chose Kailua-Kona

We live on the often rainy Oregon coast and didn't want to come to Hawaii and be in the rain. The dry Kona coast is perfect for our vacations. And the nearly constant trade winds keep our condo cool day and night. Kona Bali Kai is perfectly situated along Ali'i Drive. It's close enough to old town Kailua-Kona for a refreshing walk into town, but not close enough to have a lot of unwanted traffic or commercial activity. And, of course, you can't get any closer to the beach than at the Kona Bali Kai and where else can you watch surfers and sea life all day long from your lanai?

What makes this condo unique

We love our 4th floor unit with open-beam ceilings that create a feeling of spaciousness We love that the 12' doors separating the living room from the master bedroom disappear completely into the wall during the day (no other unit at Kona Bali Kai has this feature) so that there is a panoramic view of the ocean and surfers from anywhere in the unit. We love the way the sun sets every night right between the palm trees off our lanai and how we can sit on the lanai and watch surfers, whales (in season) and turtles. One of the most unusual features of our unit is the teak lanai framed in Hawaiian ironwood and bamboo hardwood floors throughout the unit.. The newly remodeled master bath and walk-in shower features your choice of an adjustable shower head on the wall or a drenching rain head in the ceiling, dual cabinets and sinks, and an elongated toilet. We love to play games and spend time at the beach in Hawaii, so the unit is fully equipped with games and beach accessories, including children's play toys.

Fantastic condo

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic rental. Right on the ocean with a great view. The Condo was in excellent shape and was fully equipped with all the kitchen appliances and utensils and even had 3 TVs along with tons of snorkeling gear, boogie boards, and life vests. Mike was extremely helpful as we arrived late at night and a little confused on gaining access to the condo. A quick phone call to Mike and we were in. He even called us back to make sure everything was ok. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip.

Beautiful beach home

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from our amazing trip to Hawaii and stay in this condo. The owner is extremely accommodating and thoughtful. Every thing you need for a wonderful stay is included in the condo. Some bonus amenities we enjoyed were the snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach towels and chairs, coolers, and binoculars. The kitchen has everything you need. The ocean breeze kept the condo cooler even in midday. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable. Everything was wonderful! Highly recommend!

fantastic views from balcony

  • 4 of 5

The best thing was the balcony- we ate every meal out on the big table and hung out there watching the surfers below. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of beach gear, good location: not right downtown but close enough to get everywhere easily and out of the hubbub. Master bedroom and bath comfortable and roomy, 2nd bedroom and bathroom not the same caliber. Perfect for one couple or family with kids. Very responsive host who provided tons of materials to help us learn about the area. Recommend diving with the dolphins at Out of the Blue tours.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the nice review. Watching the surfers, sea life and sunsets from the lanai IS absolutely wonderful. I'm glad you enjoyed the master bedroom and bathroom and the many amenities we provide for kitchen and beach. The guest bathroom has a combo tub/shower instead of a walk-in shower and the guest bedroom has twin beds, which may be more appropriate for a family with children than two couples.

Loved it once again!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time to the KBK #405. Mike was such a pleasure to deal with. The spot cannot be beat for relaxing, watching the surfers, sunsets and of course the turtles. The unit is clean and so well stocked with everything you need from water floats, boards, snorkels etc to cooking equipment. The place is so well organized and the bonus is that the sharing pantry allows you to use spices etc from past guests and you can contribute to the pantry. This is fantastic if you love to cook like we do. It is also right at the trolley stop so you can easily pop into town and not worry about driving if you feel like taking in a happy hour. We would stay here again and again. We can’t wait to return.

Great Ali'i Drive location with great views and amenities

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (two teenage kids) stayed here for five nights and had a wonderful time. The condo was very comfortable for us and very well-appointed. There are so many thoughtful amenities -- definitely come to the condo before you buy anything at the store, because what ever you need might already be available! The lanai is just as great as the earlier views described, and we made great use of it. Light sleepers should bring earplugs because the ocean noise is constant; the traffic noise on the street side definitely dies down after around 8:00 p.m. Loved the location and hope to stay here again on our next visit. Thanks to the Gaudettes for all the helpful info they sent before our stay!
