About the property

Oceanfront, 2 BR, 2 BA, Sleeps 6, Short Stay Specials from $100/night-call owner

This desirable oceanfront penthouse unit (with elevator) features spacious open beam ceilings and is only 30 feet from the gentle surf lapping directly below the lanai, where surfers launch into the spectacular blue waves of Banyans Beach, one of Kona’s most popular surfing spots. This beautifully remodeled and furnished condo features an oceanfront living room and master bedroom with unparalleled 180 degree ocean views and access to spectacular Kona sea life and sunsets. Your cares dissolve away as warm sun and soothing surf caress your mind and body on the unique ironwood-framed teak lanai in your comfortable teak steamer chairs. Enjoy the brilliant blue skies, colorful Hawaiian reef fish, green sea turtles, Humpback whales, spinner dolphins and surfers right from your lanai. In the quiet evening, relax on your lanai and experience the amazing reds and oranges of a spectacular Kona sunset as the huge orb descends into the sea through the softly waving palm fronds. Luxuriate in the newly remodeled master bathroom and shower with multiple shower heads, double sinks and contemporary tile work. The beautiful bamboo hardwood floors throughout, well stocked kitchen with granite countertops and contemporary cabinets and upscale Hawaiian-themed furnishings will make you wish you never had to leave. During the day, slide the 12’-wide doors between the master bedroom and living room into the wall pocket to enjoy an unrestricted panoramic ocean view from throughout the living area. At night, leave the lanai doors open in the oceanfront master bedroom and living room and be lulled to sleep by the ceaseless caress of the waves on the worn lava rocks below. Gentle ocean breezes keep you cool day and night whether snoozing on the lanai, entertaining friends in your oceanfront paradise or sleeping soundly in your king-size bed (click on 'More Details' to see all the unit amenities).

Amenities include free in-unit password protected WiFi and internet access, full-size washer and dryer, coffee grinder, large and small ice chests, frozen ice packs, beach chairs, beach towels, beach mats, boogie boards, snorkel gear, children’s beach toys, two pack ‘n plays, popular board and table games, puzzles, BluRay DVD players, 3 flat screen TVs, stereo with iPad/iPhone/iPod docking station, iron and ironing board, safe, and wall-mounted hair dryers.

Sleeping arrangements include a king-size bed in the oceanfront master bedroom and twin beds in the second bedroom. The living room pune (Hawaiian sofa/couch) is actually a second pair of twin beds. The unit sleeps four persons privately (two in the master bedroom and two in the second bedroom) or six if you use the pune.

Resort amenities include free parking, elevator, a large swimming pool with deck chairs and tables, hot tub/spa, comfortable lobby with wireless Internet, concierge desk for Big Island activities, oceanfront gas barbecues, oceanfront lounge chairs on the beach, numerous shallow lava tide pools with green sea turtles, Da Poke Shack (a very popular restaurant for poke), Miller’s Surf Shop (surfing, diving and snorkel gear), on-site security and convenience store (with alcohol sales) across the street. About Mike Gaudette

We are native Oregonians and began vacationing in Hawaii about 20 years ago. We loved the islands so much we came back more and more often. We initially bought a one-bedroom condo in 2006 at Kona Bali Kai, across the street from the beach with no ocean view. We live on the Oregon coast, but rarely go to the beach; so, when we decided to buy a larger condo we wanted to be right on the beach - and you can't get any closer than our condo at Kona Bali Kai. We love sharing Hawaii with our kids, grandkids and many friends.

Mike Gaudette purchased this condo in 2007

Why Mike Gaudette chose Kailua-Kona

We live on the often rainy Oregon coast and didn't want to come to Hawaii and be in the rain. The dry Kona coast is perfect for our vacations. And the nearly constant trade winds keep our condo cool day and night. Kona Bali Kai is perfectly situated along Ali'i Drive. It's close enough to old town Kailua-Kona for a refreshing walk into town, but not close enough to have a lot of unwanted traffic or commercial activity. And, of course, you can't get any closer to the beach than at the Kona Bali Kai and where else can you watch surfers and sea life all day long from your lanai?

What makes this condo unique

We love our 4th floor unit with open-beam ceilings that create a feeling of spaciousness We love that the 12' doors separating the living room from the master bedroom disappear completely into the wall during the day (no other unit at Kona Bali Kai has this feature) so that there is a panoramic view of the ocean and surfers from anywhere in the unit. We love the way the sun sets every night right between the palm trees off our lanai and how we can sit on the lanai and watch surfers, whales (in season) and turtles. One of the most unusual features of our unit is the teak lanai framed in Hawaiian ironwood and bamboo hardwood floors throughout the unit.. The newly remodeled master bath and walk-in shower features your choice of an adjustable shower head on the wall or a drenching rain head in the ceiling, dual cabinets and sinks, and an elongated toilet. We love to play games and spend time at the beach in Hawaii, so the unit is fully equipped with games and beach accessories, including children's play toys.

A little piece of paradise

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for two weeks. The first week had king tides; we had quite the surfer show from the lani. This condo is stocked with all the amenities anyone can want. The washer and dryer inside the condo are a plus. The view from the lani, sunsets, and the sound of the crashing waves is incredible - truly a beachfront property. We will request this condo when we return to the Big Island. It is centrally located to restaurants, groceries, and shopping.Thank you, Mike, for all the information you made available for an enjoyable stay.

Owner's Response: You were able to enjoy everything about the condo: the surfers, the amazing view from the lanai, sounds of the ocean crashing below, spectacular sunsets, the numerous amenities, washer and dryer, information about the island and activities, and the convenient location. This is what makes our condo so popular!

Terrific stay

  • 4 of 5

Owner was wonderful and all local information provided helped quite a lot. The condo was clean and had all the extras we needed. I was worried when we arrived to find no air conditioning but we found the condo to remain very cool and comfortable when we opened Lanai door and windows as suggested- actually preferred the island breeze to closed up air conditioned rooms. We had a fun time watching the surfers out our window each morning and far enough away from the main street to be quiet and relaxing. Convenient location to sight seeing and airport. Mike was a great host.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the nice review. I'm glad you enjoyed all the extras we include and watching the surfers from dawn to dusk. Like many other owners in our condo complex, we don't advertise air conditioning in our unit because the steady trade winds off the ocean keep the unit cool. I'm happy that keeping the lanai door and windows open kept you very comfortable.

Gorgeous!

  • 5 of 5

This is definitely the best spot to stay in Kona! The condo was clean & accommodations perfect for our family of 4. It was great going to sleep to the sound of the waves every night. Every morning without fail there were several surfers in the water just below even before we woke up at 6. Mike was very accurate in his details from car rental to Costco to things to do & see in the area. Would stay again anytime, this is a gem! Thank you for everything, Mike!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the nice review. The amazing view and the sound of the waves caressing the lava below the lanai are what make our condo so wonderful. I'm glad you enjoyed all the information we provide; when you travel thousands of miles to a place that is a new experience it's nice to know what to expect, what to do, how to save money and make memories for a lifetime.

Wonderful view, comfortable condo!

  • 5 of 5

We definitely enjoyed the Kona Oceanfront Penthouse. Mike was a thoughtful host, and worked to make sure we were happy with our visit. The Condo is modern, clean, and just as pictured. Yes, the views are that spectacular and yes, you are that close to the ocean. The lack of a/c wasn't an issue for us, the trade winds and ceiling fans kept us comfortable. The wall that divides the master bedroom from the living area is a sliding wall. We kept it completely open, sacrificing a bit of privacy. If you wanted to close off the master (or close the door to the second bedroom), I think the rooms would be quite warm. We would gladly stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind comments. We do try to make sure every guest has a wonderful experience in our unit. And as you pointed out, the views from the lanai are fabulous and the ocean is right below. I'm glad the ceiling fans and trade winds kept you cool; it is usually very comfortable in the unit day and night.

Amazing front row ocean views

  • 4 of 5

The lanai and it's views were by far the high point of our stay. Surfers everyday, sea turtles, gorgeous ocean water colors, and amazing sunsets. You can never get enough. This lanai was front row.

Owner's Response: The views from the lanai are indeed wonderful. There's always something to watch - surfers, fish, turtles, paddleboarders, kayakers, boats and spectacular sunsets.
