About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

This charming historical farmhouse with gorgeous waterfront and side views is located at the end of a beautiful ocean bay in Addison Maine. Built by a sea captain in the early 1800's, it served as the village's first post office and still retains the same energizing warmth and hospitality it offered many years ago. Relax on the large front porch with your morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine and watch the eagles, seals, otters, deer and maybe moose! Absorb positive energy from the large tides that constantly change the view for you. Walk or bicycle to Crowley Island, a natural bird refuge and don't forget your camera, the area beaches are just minutes away and connect to trails with breathtaking views. We offer a charming dining and living room, eat in kitchen complete , a cozy library full of books, even a children's section, board games, puzzles (a Maine favorite) and over 100 DVDs for a relaxing movie night. Tourist pamphlets and local restaurant menus are kept on premises to help you plan your days and nights. You will be just minutes away from grocery stores, local fisheries, restaurants, gift shops (Blueberry Land) and beaches. Less than an hour away from Acadia National State Park, 27 minutes to Rogues Bluff State Park, 15 minutes away from Beals Island, an hour and 30 minutes to Canada. This is a perfect get away for rest and relaxation and a chance to experience the magical shores of Maine. Experience a real "Down East Maine" fishing town with enchanting and picturesque views of rocky coastlines, lobster boats and wildlife. It is the perfect place to kick back, create memories and forget about life for awhile.

Why Elizabeth Marshall chose Jonesport

This is a very inviting house full of positive energy. It is beautifully balanced, peaceful and safe. Cross the street to stone steps that lead to a picnic area and watch the changing tides, Maine wildlife and reversing falls. By the time the water reaches the Captains House the sun warms it up making it nice for swimming and kayaking. Historians say the salt water pond next to the house was a great swimming area for local children. Area beaches are beautiful, picturesque and great for finding little treasures. You will usually have them all to yourself.

semi-private and only minutes away!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Go back in time, escape the rest of the world and relax! A great getaway. The ocean gives positive energy and strength. The tides are large and fun to watch. The "reversing falls" are right across the street. Swim in the warmer salt water pond next to the house.

We stayed here in August with our 4 kids aged 2-10. It was wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Liz was a great host, the house was better than the pictures. We loved the tidal inlet and exploring the area. Spent one day at Acadia, but otherwise just explored the area. Great, relaxed vacation! Thanks!

The real down-east

  • 5 of 5

I can say without hesitation that this was our favorite stop on our New England visit. Liz is a wonderful and friendly hostess. She has thought of everything! She called me about a week before we left on our trip to give me all kinds of helpful information about the house, places to visit and things to do in the area. The Captain's Farmhouse is fascinating, so many interesting little touches make this an authentic down-east experience. The house sits on a quiet little cove; the view from the porch in the morning, with coffee in hand, is so serene. Jonesport, just down the road, is a wonderful little fishing village. The harbor probably looks very much as it would have 50 years ago. We bought lobster twice at the co-op. Liz has a lobster pot and a propane burner on hand so you can have your own lobster boil. My husband and son had a chance to talk to the lobster-men at a pizza shop one night as they came off the boats at the end of day. They loved listening to them talk about their days. Liz has bikes and kayaks available which we used a few times. We hiked at a nearby nature conservancy where we found seals sunning on the rocks in the cove; drove down to Acadia one day and hiked some more; visited a beautiful little beach a few minutes down the road; and had all kinds of fun investigating the blueberry barrens after a tip from one of the locals. If we are able to return one day I'd make a bee-line for this perfect little spot on the Maine coast.

Great family time - stayed there for son's wedding

  • 5 of 5

My son recently got married on the beach at Great Wass Island. My husband and I, daughter and son-in-law and two grandsons (aged 3 and 5 1/2) stayed at this wonderful house. Everything was as described. The boys had a great time with the games, puzzles, and books. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed to have a couple of meals at home. Beds were comfortable and it was soooo quiet at night! Liz was a real pleasure to deal with and gave us lots of great pointers about the area. I can't say enough good things about the house and property and about Liz as well.

Amazing House Beautiful View!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay so much. The kids loved having the huge yard and exploring the coastline. Liz was amazing as well. She contacted me ahead of time to let me know all of the details and was available throughout our stay for any questions. The kids are still talking about how much fun they had at the "Old Sea Captain's House". This was the first vacation in a while where we have all come home relaxed and rejuvenated.

Beautiful home beautiful view great location

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time to stay at this property; we haven’t been disappointed and the owner actually did read our review and contacted us regarding the minor concern of only 1 bathroom. It was not enough to keep us away a second year.

Quaint fisherman's town, beautiful scenery, in real down east Maine. Area beaches are beautiful and usually unoccupied so you'll have the beach all to yourself. Nice walking trail and kayaking at the Town Beach off Narrows Rd. Cape Split Beach offers soft sand and an array of unusual stones and sea glass.
