Lighthouse Hill Ranch is situated in the beautiful Texas Hill Country on 2,001 acres. With this much land it is your own private park to enjoy. The ranch consists of rolling hills, incredible 50 mile views, and has one of the highest point in Blanco County. Enjoy the abundance of wildlife on the ranch from cattle, bird watching, deer, turkey, coyotes, armadillos, jackrabbits, doves and variety of other animals.

Rental of any of our houses provides you access to the entire ranch (both tracts), which has numerous springs, over 4,000 feet of clear rock-bottom creek to swim and tube in (and including a unique creekside hot tub and waterfall grotto), 8 ponds to fish, a seasonal waterfall and miles of trails for riding ATVs, bike riding, hiking or riding your own horse.

We have 5 houses available to rent on the property and no two houses are within a 1/2 a mile of each other. 'The Green House' is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath ranch house with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, central air/heat and great fire pit to sit and enjoy the nighttime sky in the Hill Country. You only need to pack your overnight bag, we have thought of everything you will need to make your stay comfortable. The house sleeps 10-12 people. The master bedroom has a king bed, one bedrooms has 2 queen beds and the bunk room has 2 bunk beds (twin over twin).

The kitchen is furnished with coffeemaker, pots, pans, stove, refrigerator, microwave, glassware, dishes, silverware, linens, serving bowls, cooking utensils, misc. spices, knife block, toaster, etc.

The living area has a leather furnishings and a loft above it. You can put your feet up and read a good book, watch DirectTV with movie channels, or head into town and rent a DVD to watch on the television. There is no telephone but there is an internet connection in the house if you really must stay in touch with those everyday hassles!

The house also has a basement, but we refer to it as 'The Man Cave' complete with leather furnishings a 48' TV and a bar to enjoy. The back porch has a large fire pit with 'rocking' chairs that you can sit in and enjoy a great fire. There's plenty of wood on the ranch - burn all you want! There is also a picnic table that you can use to have a meal outside. In addition, we also have a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking (charcoal provided).

If you wish to bring your dog or your horse we have accommodations for them as well. Around the house is a fenced area that you can use to contain your dog, and near the Brown House is a paddock with a water trough & feed trough. There is also a run-in and a tack area to keep your tack and feed dry.

In addition, we have four other homes on the ranch available for rental. We have a 3 bedroom/loft with 2 bath home that sleeps 8-10 ('The Grey House'), a 3 bedroom with 2 baths that sleeps 10-11 ('The Brown House'), our signature home a 4 bedroom/4 bath 4 story tower that sleeps 9-15 ('The Lighthouse') ), and a 3 bedroom with a loft and 2 ½ bath that sleeps 6-10 (‘The Log Home’).

My wife and I purchased the ranch in 2004 for our enjoyment and for our 4 kids. It is absolutely the best purchase we've ever made. We love going to the ranch and swimming/tubing in the creek, fishing in the ponds, riding mountain bikes and ATVs on the trails, hiking the woods, and just generally enjoying a campfire with lots of stars on a clear night.

Because the ranch has one of the highest point in the county, we can see for 50 miles on clear days - and there's lots of clear days in this part of the country. There are 4 horses and 3 longhorns (along with a herd of 'regular' cattle) - it's fun to feed these animals, and our dog loves to chase the big animals (that is, until they get irritated and turn and chase him).

Relaxing in the country

My group of 7 really enjoyed staying here. The house offered plenty of space and the basement is a really nice hangout spot. The best part for us was the grotto/hot tub/swimming hole area. The website plays up the grotto and hot tub, but we all thought the swimming hole and the hiking immediately around that area was the best attraction. The water is pretty clean and there are a couple of places to jump off the rocks into the water (with caution of course). Beyond that, the property has some great hiking opportunities and the winery on site (probably not close enough to walk to) has a great roof top seating area providing wonderful views of the countryside.

The location is also a short drive to Texas Hills Vineyard in Johnson City or Real Ale Brewery in Blanco. Both are worth checking out.

The only downside is the house is still somewhat close to the highway. Though it does set back a bit and feels secluded, you can still hear the sounds of passing trucks. Also, one suggestion I would offer to the owners is, it would be great if y'all could provide some firewood. We were not capable of bringing any with us and it would have been nice to have some there for use in the fire pit.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review! We are very glad you enjoyed our ranch, grotto, swimming hole, and the 4 story tall terrace at the Arc de Texas Wine & Views. Our ranch has plenty of firewood just a short distance from the green house (just north of the creek between the crossover dam and the big rock dam) and so please help yourself to it on your next visit. We hope to see you again soon!

A Wonderful Getaway

We had a wonderful time. I agree with everything Kathy said. We would have loved to have been able to get to the hot tub easier. It was a rough road to the hot tub and for "seniors" it was a challenge. Lighting, flourscent paint or something would have helped us find it easier. All in all we were very impressed with the quality of this vacation rental.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. Kathy’s comments were very positive and so we’re quite happy to see another person agree with them. The creek hot tub/water fall area is totally “one of a kind” – the hot tub was made using rocks from the ranch and it provides a great opportunity to enjoy the creek area while soaking in the heat. There is a light down there – it’s in the trees and turned on by a switch next the hot tub equipment. There’s always a bit of a balance between providing a lot of signs and keeping the rural “ranch” feel for the place – we’ve chosen to have a bit fewer signs than some but our welcome packets provide a detailed map, and of course we’re available to answer questions via the telephone.

This Is A Great Place

This is a beautiful house and was very comfortable for the 10 adults that stayed there. We would definitely rent this place again. It has a fenced in back yard with a huge fire pit which we used every night there. It is a working ranch so we had curious cattle checking us out but they were not a bother. You have to drive to the hot tub & waterfall spa that sits area right on the river - beautiful spot! Lots of big rocks to climb, play, sit, etc. on & a table to have a picnic. A great place to see the stars at night. Saw some wild turkeys and a fast moving deer. The house is actually a 3 bedroom, the basement is awesome with a mini frig. & TV and would easily hold 2 queen air mattresses if necessary. The room with the bunkbeds is small & the stairs to the basement are in there. The couches do not make into beds. The loft is really neat but has a steep ladder going up to it so it may not suitable for all adults but kids would love it! It does have a gate so that when closed you don't have to worry about the kids falling out & a small TV. Most of it is tall enough to stand up in. The house sits on Hwy 290 which could be noisy if sitting on the big front porch but we never notice any traffic noise when in the house or when we were sitting around the fire pit out back. Great place for taking walks & pictures, just watch out for the cow patties! The roads are rough & bouncy and steep in some places so I don't recommend driving them in a small or low to the ground car. We opted not to drive our mini van down one of the hills. It would be nice if they would bring in some smaller gravel for the roads to even it out with the larger rocks & maybe mark them so you can find the hot tub easier. The owner was great! We had to call her several times & she never seemed to mind one bit... always friendly. We had a great time, it is well stocked, except for food, and we would definitely recommend this to others.
