Needs work

  • 1 of 5

The positive: Good location, close to the beach. Good hot tub. Decent decks. The negative: House needs work. Broken and missing drawers in kitchen, peeling/cracking paint and paneling throughout. Very few glasses for drinking. Old TV in one BR didn't even power on. Microwave missing circular tray. Unsightly water damage throughout house. Stove burners were inconsistent, and one didn't work at all. Saw a few cockroaches in the house. Overall, not a good value for the money we spent.

Needs alot of TLC

  • 1 of 5

This house needs some help. The furniture and beds are seriously uncomfortable. There is nothing outside to sit on except a small bench in the back and the bench in the crows nest. The ceiling has a great deal of patches of popcorn missing. 2 drawers in the kitchen have fallen out. The coffee maker leaked, the microwave was missing it's rotisserie plate. When it rained the kitchen window leaked. The owners need to spend a little money making this a nice rental. In the meantime, I recommend anyone to rent elsewhere to get more bang for your buck....

Not impressed

  • 2 of 5

The house is old and we were not very impressed. There is NOWHERE comfortable to sit in the living room. They need to get new cushions for the couches because when you sit on them if feels like you're sitting on wood. The bugs are out of control. There were cockroaches everywhere. The worst thing about the house is there are a lot of cacti on the treck to the beach. Three of us got thorns stuck in us, luckily one of the girls had tweezers. There isn't a walkway to the beach that doesn't make you miss the cacti. S

House in poor condition

  • 1 of 5

Water collects in the unpaved area under the house and leaves a sea of mud behind. Slats are missing from the outside shower under the house and it is not useable. The floor in the laundry room is rotted and the studs are visible. The kitchen window over the sink leaks and water runs down on to the counter and into the sink. There were remints of one smoke detector on one wall. There was a second detector on another wall. There was evidence of a water leak in one bedroom that damaged the wall and molded the carpet. There was a clump of wires and other objects hanging from the mantel and I never was able to determine where the wires went. Light bulbs were missing . One TV worked the others did not. The two sliding glass doors to the back deck were difficult to open, one impossible and the other manageable. Don't expect to sit on the deck and watch the sunset. There is only one dilapidated plastic chair a wooden bench for two. When my wife opened one of the kitchen draws the draw front came off and the other draws above it were very difficult to open. The house may sleep 8. There was not enough glasses and cups hoe all to use at one time. In mid week I received a notice from the Dare C. Water Dept. telling me that the water was going to be cut off because the water bill was delinquent. When I called the realtor per the contract about the problem he said his company would not pay the bill because it was the owner's responsibility but he would try and contact the owner about the matter. I called the Dare C. Water Dept. and explained my situation and they assured me that the water would remain on.

Owner's Response: We appreciate all feedback from guests regarding their stay and take prompt action to address issues raised, especially those involving safety. Our management regularly monitors the premises and we regret that some items were not addressed prior to this guest's arrival. We wish to assure future guests that these have been and will always be immediately addressed. Unfortunately some problems come to light while a guest is present such as heavy rain revealing a leaky window. We would urge our guests to avail themselves of the management on site for such inconveniences as a tv needing programming or light bulbs missing. This is one of their primary functions since the owners are not in the area. We certainly regret any alarm caused to this guest by the water cutoff notice on the door. But future guests should not get the impression that the guest's call to the water department is the reason that the water remained on. The owner had paid the bill but the record must have not been updated yet. We would never put guests at the risk of not having critical utilities. Please be assured that all issues raised by our guest have been addressed and feedback we've received from subsequent guests have indicated the cottage meets the our standards as well as those of our guests. Thank you. ..Bernie and Josh Siler
