Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a more than wonderful stay! Big Buck Lodge was the right choice for us. It was unanimous that we would return there for our annual sibling get-away! Please put us down for this same week next year! We were so pleased with the accommodations with easily accessible stairs to all areas of the lodge for our elderly group. The kitchen was stocked so well and I enjoyed attempting to put all things in their correct placement as labeled. I am a stickler for organization and a "little OCD" from owning and operating my assisted living facility for the elderly. We enjoyed all our meals there and had everything we needed! There were a few housekeeping issues that could be addressed with your cleaning company, however, nothing that presented a problem to deter us from enjoying our vacation! Again, thank you so much!

Fall Retreat at BIG Buck Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Each year I take a group of students on a fall retreat. Due to the size of our group, I look for a lodge that will sleep approximately 30 individuals and has a spacious kitchen. BIG Buck Lodge is spacious in all aspects. This is the second year I have stayed at BIG Buck and the third time I have stayed at properties managed by VRBO. The kitchen has two of each appliance (refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave, coffee pot, dishwasher). The floor plan is very open on the top two stories and has plenty of room for individuals to watch TV, play pool, or just hang out and visit. The dining area has two large tables with plenty of seating along with a long bar area in the kitchen. There is plenty of parking just outside the lodge. We brought a van, minibus, and a truck and a trailer. The lodge is not very far up the mountain and the views are beautiful throughout the day. The lodge is only minutes from the main road, the grocery store and other amenities in Gatlinburg. I highly recommend staying at BIG Buck Lodge or any other property the owners list.

Love the house, not the "chore list"

  • 4 of 5

A group of us stayed four nights and we loved the house. The kitchen was the best equipped we've ever had and we have stayed in dozens of homes in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The dining room is a little tight. More narrow tables would help. Those dining room chairs have GOT to go. Most uncomfortable chairs ever. We played games and worked jigsaw puzzles there every evening. The first night, I got a splinter right in the butt when I sat down. Bedrooms are all very nice and your choice in furnishings and wall decorations is excellent. We did notice that every clock in the house was wrong. Batteries maybe? The faucet in the kitchen needs some attention. It drips and is very difficult to turn off. The view was beautiful. We noticed that you had a few trees removed to improve the view. It is breathtaking.

A large group of us, including family and friends , makes this trip every fall. Throughout the year, smaller groups rent homes as well. There is only one reason I am not giving you 4 stars......your extensive "chore list" along with menu of "penalty prices". We have stayed in dozens and dozens of homes and never, ever have we been told to strip the beds. Shouldn't the housekeeper do that? To make it worse, you threaten us with a monetary penalty if the task isn't completed. All of us agreed the chore list and penalty threats were very condescending. That being said, if that were my property, I would want it taken care of. I can understand where you're coming from, but the approach was a little threatening. I know you don't know us, but we are always very careful and respective of others' properties. We always have a checklist to do upon departure, but never one this long and certainly NEVER one with prices for each task not completed. It is not very welcoming.

The location is perfect. You can be almost anywhere in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge in a matter of minutes. Food City is very close and we probably went to Mama's Chicken Kitchen more than we should have! It's delicious! We had a cookout one evening and the kitchen was great. Well equipped and plenty of work space for a lot of cooks.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. Thank you for opening up your lovely home to us.

Owner's Response: We strive for 5 but in this case, I’ll take the 4, because for all intents and purposes, it is a 5 with your exception of the check list. While you mention that the approach was a little threatening, then it is doing exactly what’s intended. While you may always be very careful and respect others’ properties, other people simply are not. And no, I don’t know you and I don’t know others who book via the Book It Now button and that can put my property or my guests in jeopardy when they don’t. It also puts my guests in discomfort when they aren’t respectful. Like the person who rented through the Book It Now option and lied to me as to who they were and what their purpose was at the cabin. Instead, it resulted in $6,000 worth of damage to my cabin. Now, I have only had this happen once. Once was enough and that checklist seems to help people who plan on being disrespectful to withdraw their reservations from my properties. And I’m glad for that. So are all the other guests that come to our properties and find the properties in great shape. So I stand behind the agreement and the checklists. Now, in your particular case, the reservation came in April, 2017 and the agreement was sent the next day; 5 months prior to your dates of stay. We offer 100% refund – no questions asked – when cancelling outside of the 60 days prior to check in. I also spoke with you by phone and provided my direct email address and cell phone number to call if there were any concerns or questions. If after having received the agreement and the checklist you were concerned, I am a phone call away to discuss it. If after giving this explanation, maybe you can see the purpose of the checklist and its penalties. And by the way, you were not charged with anything. Additionally, there were 3 months where the reservation could have been cancelled and the deposit refunded. I’m glad y’all loved the cabin and your stay in the area. The kitchen is a top of the list kind of thing for us and we take inventory of it at least 3 to 4 times a year and make sure things are updated and replaced as needed. As far as the kitchen chairs, in the years of owning this cabin and having a multitude of repeat guests and new guests, have never had a complaint about the kitchen chairs or set up. It’s good to know so that’s something I will be following to see about future replacement possibilities. The sheet removal is also a good way to not leave things behind. Thanks again for staying at BIG Buck Lodge.

Lots of room, great views!

  • 5 of 5

Everyone in our group enjoyed staying at the lodge. We had plenty of bedroom and eating space and loved all the "little" extras like the rockers, swings, and hot tubs on the decks and double appliances in the kitchen. It was a pleasant ride into town and to the park. A two thumbs up for the whole experience!!

Fun family time for all

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 5 families (18 people) enjoyed our stay at Big Buck Lodge. This was a last minute rental due to flooding in our planned rental. Tari was very helpful in getting everything lined up quickly and getting us everything we needed within 2-3 days. We used the pool several times (we drove back and forth) and enjoyed evenings in the game room or playing board games upstairs. Plenty of room to spread out both inside and on the many porches. The only recommendation I would make is to have the trees trimmed so you can see more of the beautiful mountains from the top floor. We had a couple of maintenance issues but Tari was very responsive and has a great process in place to respond to issues quickly. I would recommend this house and will keep it on my list for future trips to Gatlinburg.

Exceeded Expectations

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent experience! The cabin was clean and felt like a second home more than a rental cabin. The kids had all kinds of games to keep entertained and the adults had enough room to relax and enjoy. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone with a big party. Tari was excellent in communication.
